You can start small and gain experience in time. Just go to a shelter or call a non profit organization and ask how you can help. I live in Brazil and started with an email, participated in many events gattering money, adoption fairs, I transported a lot of animals from clinics to labs for exams, to fairs and to foster homes or definitive homes, I checked homes of families who wanted to adopt and two years later I became one of the directors. It's a lot of hard work and almost no recognition but seeing the transformation we make in their lives is rewarding! So really, just do it. You'll love it!

It's hard being a stray. Food is often inappropriate, infrequent, people don't want to see them in their yard so throw stones or yell "get" or hoses on them and then an added fear of people makes life even harder for them, they get sick and ill, and still have to try to find food, water & shelter. They have to compete with wild animals and other strays. Domesticated animals like dogs have most of their hunter skills missing, they're not like wolves anymore, it's the equivalent of letting a 2 year old toddler go on the street and expect it to survive. Some are better than others, but many dogs aren't that smart and struggle. When you see them in video's they are often ill, sick and have mostly given up.
