David Blues I love the way he usually does his own harmonies, sound effects and beats ( the human beat box). SIM gives me the chills. It's hauntingly beautiful. Who else can perfectly harmonize with MJ, other than MJ, himself!? That's where the perfection of most his songs come from. Not only did he write most of them, he new what he wanted. So he did it himself. Can anyone name someone who's musical strategies were consistently like this? I can't think of anyone... If was one thing, he was innovative and he kept up with each decade's likes...Someone like this comes along once in a lifetime and most of us got to see it/him...

I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. It was after Michael passed and I was searching some of his songs. I had never heard this one. I couldn't believe he composed this song...but then why was I surprised. He was so thoughtful of others...especially those who suffered in any way..even being afraid of the moon. Bless his beautiful soul. Miss him.

Well I just read the book "My friend Michael" by Frank Cascio and there he said that he wrote that song inspired by the story that Brooke Shields told him that her half sister is scared of the moon :)

I did some searching about the background of this song as it is my favorite non released Michael song and should of been released. Anyway his engineers said that the song was recorded just with the vocals and piano in one take. He then said he made the huge mistake of giving Michael the master tape cause it was never seen again. Well, they later came back to it and wanted to add strings and do a proper mix and the only surviving version of the song w recorded on a cassette tape. He said how they managed to get that sound quality from a cassette tape is astounding. listening to it, you would NEVER know the vocals and piano came from a cassette tape and not the master. Michael regretted not finishing either.

I was like you being scared of the night time until I realized it was due from nightmares I didn't remember right away. Now I have conditioned my mind to wake me up when I'm in a nightmare. I know it will sound stupid but I can literally hear myself telling me "Monster 3D... you're in a nightmare... this isn't the truth... wake you up!" Since I can do it I'm no more scared. When I was six or seven I was extremely scared in the dark. Especially the room I was sleeping in frightened me, so I often went in the kitchen and slept under the table. When I got older, it was not my room or moon scaring me, but total darkness, like in a closed room. It caused panic attacks. One night I slept at my friend`s house and I had one of those. We were three and I was sleeping at the other side of the bed, but in some way she noticed my fear and suddenly I felt her hand searching for mine. Since then I`m never scared of the dark.

He originally wrote this in 1981 and recorded it in 1982 for thriller but it failed to make it, so he revisited the track in 1984 in order to rework it for bad but still it failed to make it, 20 years later Epic records released the 1984 version(Bad Sessions Version) instead of 1982 for the ultimate collection box set album. Versions Thriller Sessions remains unreleased, hopefully one day someone will find a leak to it. Such a heartwarming song.
