As a chick who has naturally gotten on very well with guys, it's long been my theory that the reason women tend to have a problem with majority-male spaces is because women and men fundamentally view shit-talking very differently. Women shit-talk each other to cut, hurt, and otherwise neutralize "the competition". Men can also use shit-talking for that, too, but I've found more often than not it's used as a form of friendly communication and bonding between them. Jeff Foxworthy had a whole bit about this back in the '90s, about how men will insult each other as a greeting, but you never see women calling each other sea cows to say hello. So in a male-dominated workspace, *of course* the primary form of male communication is ball-busting and shit-talking. Women don't get it. Quite frankly, the majority of us get really annoyed when it's aimed at us, but I've realized over time that for whatever reason, from little boys to grown men, guys seem to think that insulting and embarrassing chicks is going to make the chicks like them, because that's how they communicate with other guys. And since for women insulting and embarrassing each other is tantamount to declaring war, that's what it comes across as, particularly when you're dealing with Millennials and Gen Z, who aren't exactly known for critical thinking skills and the ability to detect nuance.

Yep... My wife still doesn't understand how men can get in full-on physical brawls and then just kiss and make up. Her family was involved in lacrosse growing up, and it was like night and day. I truly believe Hollywood is locked into the idea that they are molding the audience of the future, the audience they really want. To achieve this they are gobbling up existing franchises and "updating them for the audiences of today." They want to tell the old fans that, "Hey, if you want to see those franchises/characters you loved so much, you have to accept our new versions of them, you have no choice." At the same time, they are telling new fans, "Hey, you know all those old shows/movies your parents liked so much? Well, here they are again but made so much better because we said so!" As current Hollywood sees it, lost profits are investments in the future audience they are molding, the creation of which will change the world as we know it! This insanity will continue until they either succeed and those newly minted fans start filing up the cinemas/streaming services, or their backers get fed up with throwing money into a bottomless pit and pull the plug on this "Agenda over Profits" garbage.

No middle class, just 10% upper and 90% lower. Nobody even bothers to talk about the biggest issue, which is morbid obesity. Before I left I went to a store and counted 32 people in a row that certainly looked morbidly obese. More cancers in their 30's, kidney and heart disease, rampant diabetes. This is the first time in human history the average lifespan has gone down. I'm not saying it's over today but tomorrow and everyday is literally getting worse and worse. Not to take away from the ideological reasoning as to why there are no good actors anymore, which I largely agree with, I believe there is an additional reason. Most people who identify as actors now aren't interested in acting. Our aging generations of actors that are starting to pass away at a suddenly increasing rate started as actors: poor, hungry, desperate to land and acting job with the nearest stage production that will give them food for the next 8 weeks. They can quote Shakespeare off the cuff because they have played many of those roles repeatedly in a number of productions following a number of different interpretations. They can pull from Life experiences that make their characters all the more real. Take that famous story about Christopher Lee on lord of the rings, telling Peter Jackson that he knows what a man sounds like when he is stabbed. That kind of life experience just isn't around anymore. If I can recommend a book that tells the story of what it used to be to be an actor and then be considered a great actor I highly highly recommend absolute pandemonium from Brian blessed. His stories are excellent examples of what it used to be to be an actor. Social justice ideology is a huge problem in hollywood, lack of actual experienced talent is worse.

@@O4C209 exactly. If I were an experienced screenwriter with a lifetime of experience to pull from I would definitely want assistant writers who are that newer breed. Not only that, but actors used to understand that they were playing roles, not just different versions of themselves. The idiots at Disney apparently wanted Raven Simone's character in her new show to be gay because Raven herself is part of the alphabet community. She said that was a stupid reason to make the character gay, and refused to play along with it. It is explicitly divisive, and this is why corporations and governments have adopted it; while it seems to be virtuous, it does generate a tense division, and division of the people makes them easier to control. We have a bad feeling about the Woke movement because it is being used for wholly insidious reasons. Wonderful and insightful presentation, as usual, Chato.

The term "Neo-Marxist" is appropriate since it simply replaces much of the previous economically-oriented 'oppressor versus oppressed' indoctrination with a race/identity/gender approach. Instead of promoting a poor vs wealthy struggle, it is skin color or sexual preference versus skin color or sexual preference. Which, ironically, is a very bigoted approach requiring disciples of such neo-marxism to stereotype everyone by their physical traits and preferences. Either way, they both aim to eliminate individualism. It's not surprising to hear some leaders of such group-think to proudly declare things like, "we were trained as Marxists" and espouse such manipulative ideals publicly.

My nieces are in their late twenties, early 30's. They're AWFUL. They think their Uncle Bobby's just so old school and unenlightened (me). So I said to Melissa, the worst of the two, Mel, do you know that you and your sister are products of the Patriarchy? Her eyes widened and her face went slack. "Mel, your mother's father is a two star General in the US Army, which is mostly a Patriarchy, and he's not evil. Your father, my big brother is also a retired Army officer, the son of another Army officer and me, I'm a retired officer and private enterprise guy, too. We're all well served, and honorable people. All men. Who paid for your minor-aged life & college & gave you starting-out money, (and it wasn't your mother)? Who's always there to help you girls in a pinch, your dad and me. To say the Patriarchy is evil, means you're brainwashed to hate men and I know you don't. Just ask your boyfriend. So, if this's true, let's look at Martin Luther King and have a talk about Quality of Character. Then let's talk about the "disparities of Life," and how unfair it is, which means let's talk about Merit, tenacity, diligence and hard work. And if you're either just going to say, "it's so unfair," or you're being supressed/victimized, then I'll suggest you read some history and you'll see Life has never been fair and we can date human slavery, with evidence, back to the 3rd Millenium BC. It's been brutal, deadly, unfortunate, miserable and often times short lived, but it's been largely equally unfair to everyone which makes it fair. Fair meaning applicable to and afflicting everyone. The only way a small population of individuals rise from the misery is by motivation of whatever type, good or not. These individuals became leaders of tribes who brought groups together to create civilization, technology & specialization and because of that here we are. Your job in this life, is to be honest and walk without illusion or self-delusion and use your education to determine your skillset and match it to a job and occupation you'll love. On the way you must be accountable and responsible, and you need a lot of work on that right now. It's either that or find a successful man, marry him, screw him well and be a happy dependent adult. You choose, but do not demand that society and culture bend to your brainwashed, immature World View and complain the Government needs to step in, eradicate Capitalism, establish Socialism & Collectivism and enforce it with fascism. Socialism & Communism didn't exist when our Country was founded, but since it has, it's been tried some 27 times globally and it's failed every time creating the largest genocidal death count in human history just this past 20th Century. You ask those prematurely dead people what's not fair. My niece started crying and I hung up the phone. Haven't heard from her in almost two years.

Wow. Good story, sad, hopefully, temporary ending. She's obviously talking with others. I tell kids the story of my mom escaping from Communist Hungary at night with three other women and a minder. One woman with a baby, the baby started crying and she put a pillow over its head and suffocated it because the safety of the minder, who would get many others out of the country safely, was more important. She knew the rules. No movie savour came to rescue them. I tell the kids they are most privileged people on the planet. They are usually crying by this point. Thanks for your comment.

@@CallMeChato I'm very aware of Hungary's history; and more generally the history of the Slavic peoples going back to Roman Kingdom times, different tribes mixing w/earlier Indo Europeans and existing Euro-Celts about Central Europe, late Bronze and early Iron Age. The later Scandinavian waves about the 10th Century known as Varangians or The Rus (Those Who Row) coming south from the Baltic to the Black Sea, etc. the wars, mixing with earlier Scandinavians that mixed to create the Germanic Tribes, and on. Then of course the multiple waves of Black Death-Plague wiping out half of Europe's population, the last being the 14th Century. This history is enough to make you cry and barf at the same time. Then lets throw in the EurAsian Steppe Peoples: the Avars, Pechenegs, Scythians, Huns, Mongols, Turkic Tribes and that entire southern Slavic "area" from Ukraine Crimea through the Balkans, Carpathians to the Italian Alps just blew up, repeatedly. I have a hard time w/the history. It's all migration, conflict, psychopath leaders, shifting borders, the race for resources/precious metals, sea route/port access. Post WWI European Fracturing, the demise of Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia breaks up, The Czechs, etc. etc. To wrap this unhappy historical babble up, I'll tell you I've been watching Victor Orban since the middle 90's, and I really like the guy, especially since 2010. He's 100% Nationalist and I mean that in the purest and best definition.

Right with you man. I am a Canadian that can only describe the Liberal party as the Iliberal party. The point of liberalism is to give people opportunities. To deny people opportunities based on skin colour or gender is a direct subordination of liberal principles, and yet these unethical practices are embraced under the guise of equality.

There are a lot of other ways to try and achieve equality in areas like sex, ethnicity, etc, that have nothing to do with invoking woke identity politics. Plus, those alternate approaches do not carry any of the negative baggage of what has become an almost-universally despised movement. You are 💯% correct to focus on better and actually fair methods to improve art, entertainment, etc.

Where you said "perhaps the most tragic thing is we're spending too much time..." you could have stopped right there and it would still perfectly sum up the whole situation. There's big issues that we need to deal with, locally and globally (inflation, healthcare, pollution, climate change, war, food insecurity, and the list goes on). And he we are, arguing over what colour of bucket to use to bail water, instead of actually doing anything productive. You're absolutely right that it's a complete waster of energy and time that could be refocused and redirected to more pressing concerns and more productive outcomes.

I was born and raised in an European country that had an ultra conservative right wing dictatorship up to 1974. I was a small child then, but a lot of people lived in those times. What is interesting to me is the fact that back then a lot of leftists faught precisely against the things that we are starting to witness now. No wonder our Constitution actually protects freedom of speech and expression (article 37). If allowed to continue, it won't be good. Most people will shut up and fake ignorance, while others will have their lives ruined. Life will become very grey and art/entertainment will follow that rule, with the odd exception of the particularly courageous and altruistic artist.
