Doctor Sleep didn’t scare me as much as The Shining, but it is so well written that I have read it multiple times.

I listened to the audiobook and it scared the crap out of me because it was read by the author.

"It" was the scariest book I have ever read! I love how well Stephen king incorporates the human side of horror into his work. Pet Semetary and It are two of my favorite books of all time!

To be fair, I listened to the audiobook, not read it BUT! Misery by Stephen King kept me locked in. Holy moly, I have never wanted a character to escape a situation more fervently than in this novel. Annie Wilks is one of the most terrifying villains I've ever encountered and yes, I saw the movie years before I heard the book and yes, it's even creepier.

For me the scariest book I ever read was Into the Drowning Deep and I fully acknowledge that it's not that scary, but I am a very visual reader so I don't tend to read horror novels. This one gave me nightmares for days.

Scariest book I’ve read is Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell. I also just read Nestlings by Nat Cassidy and it was creepy.

The Troop is also one that I loved. But for me, my scariest read is The Ruins by Scott Smith. Even upon second reading, it still kept me turning the pages in a state of very tense anxiety!

I was the same with The Troop, OMG the visuals it gave me I had to DNF. Totally agree re The butterfly garden, read that a while ago, fab book.

I have the same feelings about books vs movies and it being really hard to find books that scare me! I also can’t do body horror or a lot of gore… it just icks me out! You keep talking about My Imaginary Friend, so I justtttt need to bump this up on my list!

I listened to The Troop and was thoroughly grossed out. Tender is the Flesh grossed me out as well - that was perhaps the most disturbing book I have ever read/listened to. Imaginary Friend - one of my favorite books of all time. I just read The Chain this month - as a Mother, it gives you all the up and down emotions, anxiety was high reading that one!

"Sur le seuil" by Patrick Sénécal (québécois) was the scariest book I ever read. Had nightmares three nights in a row. Not gore at all bit powerful suggestion. Was made intona movie in Québec but never saw it because I don't want to ruin what the book did for me. I think I will look into The troop, though. 🤔

Scacy books love them ! Excellent body horror - The Jim-Jams, by Michael Green (1994). Spooky vibes - The Bird Eater, by Ania Ahlborn (2014). Creepy child - Reasons She Goes to the Woods, by Deborah Kay Davies (2014)

I put Imaginary Friend on my want to read list. And oh my gosh The Troop sounds amazing but I looked it up on Goodreads and read a review that talked about what made it so scary and I'm so mad because I would never be able to read it but holy crap it sounds good! And then I saw that Stephen King wrote a review for it: "This book scared the hell out of me and I couldn't put it down." And I thought no freaking way...if Stephen effing King says a book scared the hell out of him then there's definitely no way I could read it LOL. Thank you for another awesome video.

I don’t really get scared by books or movies lol but Misery by Stephen King is one that got to me. Also The Grip of It by Jac Jemc was the creepiest book I’ve read, such a weird haunted house book.

Unfortunately, It didn't scare me. It had some gruesome scenes but I wasn't scared at all... The Long Walk by Stephen King has a setting that I don't wanna be in. Some suspense love story books scare me like See Me by Nicholas Sparks. Even Verity by Colleen Hoover scared me.

Love love the creepy books. One that stands out for me is Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage 😬 Again a story with a child, I think those hit different because we think of children as innocent.... and when they arent 😵‍💫

For me: The Shining by Stephen King, IT by Stephen King, The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty, No One Gets Out Alive by Adam Nevill, & The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum… so scary for the fact it’s a true story, and it’s very hard to read. So look up trigger warnings.

Shining and Exorcist were amongst the scariest for me. I have to say, while it wasn’t as scary, Doctor Sleep was a much better read. It is so well written I’ve reread it several times.

Tender is the Flesh to me is like the Troop. It’s a story about when humans can’t eat animals anymore so we start meat processing certain humans. It explains the meat processing plant to a new employee step by step, I had to skip pages. Finished it but it was gross.

I also had to DNF The Troop for the same reasons. Yuck! Loved The Push and The Perfect Child is on my TBR. I Remember You by Yrsa Sigurdardottir is one of the only books that has ever scared me. As someone who doesn’t visualize much either, this isolated winter setting with supernatural elements had me turning on the lights and afraid to go to bed.
