Mt. Reynolds (or Reynolds Mountain) is an epic peak in Glacier National Park near the Logan Pass visitor's center. Because of extreme exposure, this hike (climb) is not recommended for families with young kids, novices, or those afraid of exposure, open expanses, or heights. Watch in 4k as we ascend/descend from the summit, walking along a precipice with over 1000+ vertical feet of sheer drop below us. If you attempt this, please download and understand your route options before you go (www.climbglacier.com/ has some good details on routes). AllTrails will take you to the saddle between Reynolds and the Dragon's Tail but beyond that, you're on your own!

14 times i summited that peak.... in my opinion? the best summit view in the park. views of Lake McDonald, St. Mary Lake, Hidden Lake, the Garden Wall, and Logan Pass...... and the climb is as fun as any other (you can avoid an uphill scree climb, using it for descending). the exposure is exhilarating, yet fairly safe. Love this climb!!

Beautiful climb and lovely video. The descent is the hard part and compulsory. You all did fine with your hands and feet, but PLEASE no bulky packs with stuff hanging loose and poking out.

Thanks George! You’re absolutely right - I was worried about my friend’s pole catching on a rock.

It was a doozy! I haven’t hiked the dragon’s tail yet but it looks pretty bad too. Someone fell off it this year and died.

Yeah, Jamie sat at the bottom of the class 3 part, and there was a short class 4 section. Coming down was total sketchville!

I just read about a youngish guy that died climbing this mountain this past week. I wonder if he died going up this way or the way you guys first started? This is a great video that shows how easy something can go wrong. I’m glad your crew knew their limits and when to stop and I’m happy you guys made it back down safe
@xpadventure
@xpadventure 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I wondered that too. They said the cause of the death was still under investigation so maybe he didn’t fall from a great height? Anyway, that was certainly a hike that could’ve ended badly if we had made a mistake. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

i climbed Reynolds 14 times. last time when i was 60 years old (2015). i lived near Glacier for 35+ years. there are 2 routes. the front face traverse (as seen from Logan Pass)and the side face (Dragon's Tail). the side face is the most popular due to less exposure, but still some scary exposure. i've aborted front face ascents before because the narrow exposed slanted trail had morning ice on from it. you do not want to attempt that way with ice on that narrow section. the ice most often is from light evening rains, and normal evening temps from mid August on will freeze it...plus it stays shaded until through mid morning. i expect he was alone and unfamiliar with such conditions or proper route finding. I LOVE THIS CLIMB!! THE VIEWS ARE THE BEST FROM ANY PEAK I'VE SUMMITTED AND I'VE SUMMITTED OVER 100 TIMES....spectacular. you get accustomed to the exposure over time (there are many so much worse than this), but that doesn't make it any less dangerous. you just be very careful and move slowly love watching these videos. brings back memories. i moved away from the recent Montana madness, inconsideration, arrogance, and rudeness to find friendlier places THE ECUADORIAN ANDES ARE BEAUTIFUL.....AND SO ARE THE PEOPLE!!@@xpadventure

Woah, I can't believe you can do the front face ascent... sounds scary! Yeah, I grew up in Columbia Falls and enjoy coming back to visit family but your comment about "Montana Madness" is dead on. I didn't even go into the park this summer because of the madness and instead hiked in the Jewel Basin. The real estate prices, people, crowds, traffic, are insane now. It's not the same Montana I grew up in. I bet the Ecuadorian Andes would be an incredible place. Thanks for watching!

@@xpadventure Jewel is a blast. same with Ten Lakes. there are places down Hwy 83 to easily access the Missions and some Swan access. i've hiked to the top of many Whitefish range peaks too. and Bockman Peak in the Cabinets is an 8000+ ft peak with spectacular views..... but even some of those got more than normal traffic since 2015 or so. Yeah, i started looking for a new place about 2015, after they legalized guns and e-bikes in the Park and the crowds just got out of control. you're right about prices and costs. even with Medicare (i qualified in 2016) i had a Christmas Eve absessed tooth and had to use the emergency room because my dentist and doctor weren't available for a penicillin script. I told them all i needed was penicllin but they insisted on a "exam" which basically was opening my mount and saying , yes, it's an absess. they charged me $400 and gave me 4 pills - on a Saturday!! not even enough to get to Monday. then, in 2020, i took a spill off my bike and scraped my elbow and bruised up pretty bad on my full arm and top of my thigh and my hip. 10 days later the elbow swelled and got infected. again, all i needed was a script. i couldn't schedule a visit for 4 weeks so i had to go to "urgent care". they looked at it for 2 minutes and charged me $250 for the script. that was the last straw. i had Medicare and getting 2 scripts ONLY cost me $650. ENOUGH i researched and landed in Ecuador. best decision i've made. i live at 8500' in the Andes (Cuenca), in the "valley of eternal spring". it's in the 70's most every day and gets into the high 40's every night. My full coverage health care costs me $130 a month. Ecuador (21st) actually ranks higher in health care outcomes than the U.S. (34th). the food uses NO preservatives or hormones, no GMO's, and nature has constitutional rights. the people are friendly (like the Flathead used to be) and the climate is perfect. rent is $350 mo. for a furnished (all utilities paid) 2 bedroom apartment. food is super cheap and the tastiest i've had in my life. a normal restaurant meal is between $2.50 and $5 for lunches and not much more for dinners. i rented a home for a 5 day vacation (The Devil's Cauldron in Banos - Google it) for 6 of us 3 weeks ago. a fully functional 3 bedroom, sleeps 9, full kitchen with an inside pool cost only $90 a night for us all. It's less than half the cost (maybe even a third) to live in a super friendly, year around spring time climate, with the best natural food and cheap transportation (a 250 mile bus trip is less than $25). when you get towards retirement, give it a look. there are nearly 10,000 expats in Cuenca (pop. 500,000) which is a large city but feels Kalispell size. AND....crime is much less than in the U.S. Take care up there. it's getting crazier every day....

I've turned back from routes when I see ball bearings aka loose rock on narrow ledges. Yep, you can climb it, but then it's a gamble coming down unroped. Bottom line: Don't go up something you don't want to go down unless you will be roped on the descent.

Do you guys follow the climbing guide and the marked cairns?
@xpadventure
@xpadventure Жыл бұрын
Yes, we did follow the climbing guide. However, on the way up we saw two sets of cairns but we stuck to the ones on the outer cliff face instead of doubling back to the cairns that had you climbing some switchback route. Once you're up there, I think you'll see what I mean. Good luck if you do it. Truly epic!
