This was...hands down...the most nerve-wracking moment of the build. I cut through the purlins to open the dormers into the loft. Although we were confident that it would be possible to remove a small section of purlin in front of the dormers, a small voice of doubt persisted within our minds. What if we cut through the purlin, and the whole roof sags?

Good Morning Outsider ! This cabin build series constantly blows my mind. The quality of this reflects your attention to detail and epic craftsmanship. Its so refreshing to see your father there with you as building this work of art and applied knowledge have and will make a lifetime of heartfelt memories. My wife and I are always asking the Good Lord to comfort your lovely wife as her health is paramount and is in our hearts as are you, your daughter, Dad and entire family. Thank You for sharing your lives with us, entertaining us, and relaxing us. You have a great voice that to me, is extremely calming and has a verbal peacefulness tone to it. Your videos are always very well done, the audio is outstanding, your editing is " top knotch" and the picture and definition quality is crisp. Always wishing you the very best. Warmest Regards from Arizona. P.S. One million subscribers is upon you- that alone is impressive, ( early) congratulations ! You will soon have two million !

Thank you my friend, for taking the time to write such a kind and thoughtful comment! Your prayers for my wife's health is also very much appreciated. I've been wanting to give an update on her condition for a while now, but it's been difficult for me to talk about. Plus, we're still figuring things out with her specialists. However, it's wonderful to know that there are people, like you, who continue to remember Mrs Outsider in your thoughts and prayers. 🙂🙏 In addition, I'm happy to hear that you've been loving the cabin build episodes with my dad. As someone who used to compete in state wide mathlete competitions as a young kid and someone who is also fond of geometry, the level of skill you guys have is phenomenal. As dorky as it may sound, it’s probably one of my favorite parts of the channel. To watch everything fit together perfectly is amazing. I built two covered garden beds at my last house and always got a lot of praise. I just never mentioned that they were mathematically and geometrically perfect. That’s why they looked so awesome haha 😆. Yes, it takes more time, but the end results are well worth it, as you know 👍

I must admit experiencing anxiety as I watched you cut through those purlins, and then released air from my lungs I'd been holding, when seeing no sag. That's an amazing testament to the sound construction of the cabin's main structure. Dormers' interior turned out so lovely using rough sawn lumber... so nice to see them completely open. Sawing the purlins at an angle, then sanding them smooth increased how pleasing the view became. As always, the precision and craftsmanship you and your dad maintain is impressive. Watching your work is a special treat. As always, thank your for your efforts to video and share it.

As strange as this may sound, the thing I love most about this - INCREDIBLE BUILD - is the sound when you open or close the front door. Use your imagination for I know of no way to put this into words, that... "Ka-Lunk!" tells me you built your cabin with such structural integrity that it'll survive your stay on this earth. Bless you, your father and your family...............

Good morning! Mr. Outsider, you bring a lot of peace and wonder to the hearts of others living in turbulent world. Out of curiosity, did you ever calculate how much all that cedar would have cost if you had purchased it from mills or lumberyards? One of my favorite things to watch is when you turn a tree you’ve felled yourself into beautiful boards at your portable mill. Thanks for the wonderful YT content! I was here before 100k, and I’ll be here when you crack a million.

Thanks Duane, for sticking with us from the very beginning! As for our cedar lumber, I actually haven't sat down to calculate the equivalent lumberyard cost, but I'm sure it would be VERY pricey! Not only because cedar is valuable, but also because most of our pieces are custom cut on our mill, and wouldn't be available in a standard lumberyard.

Hi Garrett, Thank you for your kind words and for watching. Yes we pondered long and hard about cutting the purlins out. But came to the decision to cut based on a number of factors, like 45 degree pitch with steel roof. we felt that the rafters were more than adequate to carry the load with out purlins. the framing of the dormers bridged and would support the cut out of the roof and purlin because the extra framing goes from 2' below the peak to 2-3' feet from were the rafters are supported on the top of the wall. Further, the weight is supported within 4' by the outside wall and by a secondary 45 degree support under the purlin on the other side. So that was the thinking process leading to the cutting! Thks again Have a great day!
