Reminded me of the time when me and my dad built his house 1500 sq ft 3 bdrm A frame .We did every single thing from dirt work to finished even snowed on us lol 2 ,1/2 years paycheck to paycheck hauled everything on the roof of our car best memories of my life .only mistake we couldn't fix was only doing it once ,we should of kept building other houses stay strong and follow your dreams .👍🏘

To all the dorks complaining that people won’t stay here. I have a 14x14 tiny cabin in the woods with no running water or bathroom. Just an outhouse. And people love it. 5 Star rating on Airbnb. I have a hot tub and wifi set up that I believe likely tips the scales in my favor. But either way most people are looking for a little adventure. Quit being negative and try it sometime. Lol

Yessir. A-Frames are also really nice cause they save a pretty good amount of materials. An A frame cabin with a loft bedroom can end up having just as much space as a normal cabin, while also looking interesting AND being cheaper. :)

Great job, well done guys. If you do another one, use wooden pins or nails, not screws for the framing, outside the stresses and strains from the elements will require the frame to be a little flexible. Screws are great where there is no movement and will snap when put under tension, where as a pin or nail will bend, which also helps stop the timber from splitting. 8~)
@TheDoerDuo Жыл бұрын
I’ve never even heard of wooden pins but it makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks for the tip!
@tysonsmith9779 Жыл бұрын
Bad advice. Nails actually back out and get loose over time due to expansion/contraction due to temp/moisture changes. Modern structural screws are designed to compensate for this. It's not like the old days where the screw heads would just pop off if the wood expanded. You guys absolutely made the correct choice.

I’ve built the diedricksen, variation without the swing out as it’s in wild animal and the occasional bear country. Used 2x6 for the main A frames and walls, I have no doubt it could be put on a trailer / it’s solid as a rock. The little buddy propane heater is ample even without insulation in the NC winter. Keep in mind a light colored roof keeps the temp down substantially in the summer, and a small vent near the floor on one end and a small vent near the ceiling on the other naturally cools it too. Enjoy your build!
@Dan-4408 ай бұрын

I was going to suggest the same thing. Dewalt makes a bunch of cordless tools (circular saw, sawzall, 1/4" impact driver). The Impact would cut you screwing time in probably a 1/4. Invest in the bigger batteries though, bc those tools use lots of power. Also as a contractor, I only use T25 screws, they seen to slip WAY less.
