I normally hand rake small moss patches with my Groundskeeper II rake and do some moss out... I've recently come across some lawns that are almost 50 moss or worse... This video confirmed what I figured, power rake, then moss out, then some 3 in 1... that ought to bring it back.

Here in the Seattle area it's a constant battle with moss. Probably a similar wet coastal climate to Belfast I imagine. Definitely recommend a soil test. I threw down quite a bit of dolomitic lime here in the spring, because my soil pH was pretty low, and low Magnesium. I'll aerate in the fall and throw down some more lime and overseed some more. Hopefully that'll raise the pH and help the lawn thicken up some more! Gotta have patience and persistence 👍

Do you recomend like a battery operated dethatcher or the power rake. the lawn is mowed but that's all they do. Lawn in in the N.E. USA. thanks first dieo that explained the moss. What is a safer moss killer that does not have terrible chemicals? Sodium bicarboante? I will do it in the fall. I plan to buy the ryobi dethachter in the fall. Hi Robbie, I’m not a very experienced gardener, and my lawn has all kinds of cr*p on it, including ivy, and I’ve even seen strawberry plants! I wonder if you've ever encountered a situation where there was so much moss, and the customer had a high enough budget, could you just take a turf cutter and remove everything? Then put down some new soil, and lay down new sod, or entirely reseed the lawn. I feel like doing that in my backyard. Lol.
@Premier_lawns_official4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris To a certain extent that would be a waste of money. The first couple of years it would be great, then after a fashion it would degrade back to what it is now. Aeration and scarification should be done as as part of a yearly basis. You need to look at underlying issues shade, nutrition, drainage etc.
@Bicyclechris4 жыл бұрын
@@Premier_lawns_official Oh exactly, you're right. I forgot to include that bit. Starting fresh with a new lawn, should include the intent of adopting and implementing a year round plan for maintenance, which includes all of the things you have shared in your videos. The fundamentals being scarification and aeration once or twice yearly, and then a program of nutrients and weed control tailored to a person's locality. :) I basically did that and put in a new lawn last year, and it looks amazing. But this year, I don't have the "YOLO" budget for a new backyard lawn and landscape, so I'm going the route of scarifying, aerating and overseeing to restart my backyard lawn.
