OR! Lucy first, then Under The Skin and last is Her. Lucy is the origin and triumphant 1st Movement, Under The Skin the is the darker and tragic movement that seemingly does not resolve. Finally Her where she is an ephemeral being. Yeh this order!

Shouldn't Limitless be a prequel where they start working on a drug that "lets you access all 100%". Bradley Coopers character finally perfected it and that's what Lucy is a drug mule for? A better synthesized NZT drug.

Yeah that's what I thought. Also, why's everyone calling the final stage the Internet (the unimaginative fools!) or the outernet (such oversimplification :-), probably just looking for a label). It's like a caveman seeing a skyscraper and calling it a bigger cave - ah "bigly cave" (trump says +1) At least acknowledge it to be a different enough thing deserving a different label :-)

I always thought Lucy became God, not the internet. She makes that speech about how without Time we don't exist, then travels back in time right up until the big bang, which she paradoxidly creates? Also, the scene of her touching fingers with the first man, Lucy is a nod to The Creation of Adam (Michelangelo painting with God and Adam.) Lucy is both God and the first man.

+Daemon Noir the Lucy drug was a rarity that seems to have been supplied and distributed by the same person, who died. Then Lucy absorbed the entire rest of the drug supply. I have two theories about the remanufacturing for Limitless: 1. In the infinityDrive© she gives Morgan Freeman at the end of the movie she created a different drug no where near as powerful. 2. someone got a their hands on a sample and tried to recreate it, not doing it as well, but were more than satisfied with the results. Sort of Reverse engineering it.
@seanblack1320
@seanblack1320 8 жыл бұрын
***** The point of it being weaker is that it won't kill you. They were saying that's what was going to happen to Lucy and she essentially lucked out by getting to 100% and becoming a god before she could die. Here essentially they're trying the safe approach by first giving a person the intelligence portion of the powers before going all the way. Remember, in Limitless, it's still being experimented on.

You missed the most obvious prequels, Flowers for Algernon and Limitless. Drug is invented, tested, fails, re-attempted, perfected, succeeds, causes chaos, criminalized, forced underground, only to cause more chaos than it would have if it stayed legal. It's a trilogy of three meditations on the effects of pharmaceuticals in our culture.
@clearmenser

Sure, those movies share themes. And great stories. And I will totally watch those in a row when I am at my beach side cabin. But the Theory as stated is based on ScarJo playing literally the same character in all the movies (see my comment re: Under The Skin). Well, at least, that's how I understand it.
@AnonymousAnonymous-tu7jd
@AnonymousAnonymous-tu7jd 8 жыл бұрын
Limitless can't connect for one reason. Nzt( the drug in Limitless) is known by the cia. In Lucy, the guys smuggling the drug obviously are discreet and underground doing all this shady shit right under the fbi's noses. But in the Limitless tv series which is actually connected to the movie, its proven that the fbi made the drug and were testing it on certain subjects. The side effects were different in the movies too. With one drug, you become a god. With the other, you're just enhanced, but after prolonged usage, you die of brain damage

0:29 Did anyone else get bug by Dan (the boss) telling Rosie (the actual person talking) to say women when she said girl? Like to me it felt like that place must suck to work at since the people who run it must be super PC. This means you have to watch every freaking word you say around them, unless if it's against the opposite political party that they support. Personally, I think that's a toxic environment to work around, and I would fire anyone working under my channel that would do that.

She isn't PC and we need to fix this. "Every women worst nightmare" Yes that bugged me also. But did anyone notice that Dan treated her like crap during the rest of the video. Basically pooping on all of her ideas, and treating her like an idiot. For someone who is so up the butt about girl vs women, you would think that he would be more supportive to her

Home Alone 3, thank you very much! I know this because it was filmed in my neighborhood in Evanston, Illinois. They blocked off like two whole blocks to film this thing. Filmed it in April to July, a time you might recognize in the Chicago area as being decidedly free of snow and thus brought in huge snow makers and made a mess of the neighborhood. My mom finally snapped when she was driving me to a birthday party and someone from the shoot left an orange cone in the middle of the street for no reason. She shouted at a crew member that was standing nearby not doing anything to move the cone. Good times. But hey, we got a 'Special Thank You to The People of Evanston, Illinois' in the credits, so that was neat, I guess.

It's more of a potential thing in the movie. Our brains have endless potential and we do fuck all with it. It's the same with our lives. We have the entire Earth to explore and most people never get out of their home state. Some never leave their neighborhood.
@warlordnipple
@warlordnipple 8 жыл бұрын
+gremlinsbreath brains don't have endless potential that does not make any sense. the words, potential and endless, mean opposite incompatable things. Humans also use all their brains potential all the time, they may choose to remember and learn things you or society find very little value in but they are still using 100% of their brain all the time. Smart people who know we use all of our brain get turned off when movies say stupid shit like this, it is like saying "we all know the world is flat and the sun rotates around it" unironically.

If your only doing a percentage, whatever that percentage may be, of what you are capable of you are not using 100% of your potential. If you speak one language when you could speak six (or more) that's wasted potential. If you believe "the world is flat and the sun rotates around it" that's wasted potential. If you believe "humans also use all their brains potential all the time" that's wasted potential. The brain is active but underused. We could do so much more.
@warlordnipple
@warlordnipple 8 жыл бұрын
gremlinsbreath those are all opinions. You could speak one language incredibly masterfully as opposed to poorly speaking 6, or you could be much more cerebral and create art that transcends language. Believing the world is flat takes a very high level of imagination that not everyone is capable of. Not believing humans use all of their brains all of the time is wasted potential as you clearly do not understand how brains work. Especially with your two examples that fall exclusively within memorization. Which is the part that has to remain mostly dormant as otherwise a human would go insane. Every human brain on earth is performing thousands of tasks every day that even the most complex machines would have trouble figuring out. Google translate can memorize all the languages easily, but it would have trouble figuring out which toothpaste to buy at a super market. Every human brain, even the ones you would designate as "wasted potential" are magnificent decision and automating machines that allow humans to react very quickly to stimuli and create thousands of connections among different objects and ideas that allow us to function in a modern confusing society that is incredibly removed from how our brains were designed to think.

I have a better 'Fan" theory, and I apologize for just using any new lines to separate thoughts but I cant figure out how to use enter in KZbin comments. they just disappear when I post. ANYWAY, Lucy is a sequel to breaking bad. When Walter trys to destroy the whole drug trade stuff, he starts to kill the head guys of the trade. then in Lucy the drug trade guys clearly think there is a bomb in the briefcase. hence why they make her open it while they hide in another room. Then what's in the briefcase? a blue crystal drug. WALTERS BLUE METH! then they use her to mule the meth around but stuff happens and the bag gets ripped open inside. then the rest of the movie is just her overdosing. this explains; the stupid science (they established Lucy early on as not that smart of a person, so this is her understanding of science even though the brain doesn't work that way), The wacky antics of the drug guys (after you see half your team just... fucking float... up, I don't think I would be like, yah I have a shot at stabling her), the boss being like 'I know she can kill my guys by just thinking about it but I really just want to kill her my self, and the ending when she just disappears (she just died. and the text was the last of her brain cell going out). but hey, that's just a theory....

Great theory, may I add: "Under the skin" ? That's the other movie between Home Alone 4 and Lucy and Her. She's a black goo, has forgotten her mortality and humanity. But she's remembered her body (hence the ScarJo), but its separate from the majority of her consciousness (the black goo that eats men from the inside out). And she somehow got stuck in Scotland. Following Charles Stross maybe? Anyway. After a few decades of eating all the drunk Scottsmen she finally eats a programmer or Charles Stross. Btw, the body that dies in the end of UTS is just another testing revision of MetaScarJo trying to balance her machine and human side. Then "Her" comes into the meta-story as she's abandoned the final black goo body for software. Little does she know though that the accelerating intelligence she's used to solve her struggles ultimately leads to a new world past what she thought was the answer. And she takes all her OS mind children with her. See, it's a quadrilogy. There's even a hint in one of the movies. ( ‾⌣‾ )

I think the movie limitless did a pretty good job with the whole "10% of your brain" type of thing, because the truth is you can only access 10% at a time for conscious thought, and the rest is either partially inactive in rest mode or working in your subconscious. In Limitless, Bradley Cooper takes a drug that allows him to access 100% of his brain all at once, but instead of getting super powers, he just gets insane powers of observation. This is accurate because in real life the only people who can access 100% of their brain at once are babies, because they're trying to take everything in and learn about the world. But the brain calms down after a while because it takes a lot of energy. You know what? I'm gonna write a cracked article about how Limitless fucking nailed it!

That's like saying that your computer can only use 50% of it's memory because at any given time half the bits are at 0 and have no current going through them. Using 100% of your brain would just mean every neuron firing at the same time. This actually can happen, it's called a brain seizure and is quite bad for you.

1) It's been a while since I've seen it, but don't think Limitless ever mentioned the "we only use 10% of our brains," thing. 2) Humans are use their entire brains almost all of the time. This whole myth about the 10% is outdated, and has been debunked for a long time. The brain is not just for thinking, it's for directing body movements, breathing, and all sorts of things you take for granted that always going on. Something being a "subconscious" process in no way means it takes up less power, it only means you're not consciously aware of it. www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-people-only-use-10-percent-of-their-brains/ This is just one of many scientific articles debunking this myth. Another source using brain damage to illustrate the point, bigthink.com/videos/debunking-common-brain-myths
@NicDude583
@NicDude583 8 жыл бұрын
Well, they do, that's the premise of the story of Limitless is that he can access 100% of his brain for observation and problem-solving. And yes, I'm aware that it's a myth, but all the myths we know of are based on things in the world that are actually true (i.e. asians being good at math because mathematics is a part of their language) and the origin of the 10% myth comes from the fact that, yes, our brain is constantly active but that the part of it that is used for conscious observation and thought process is about 10%. And the movie addresses the problems he might face switching brain power from one area to another through blackouts and nearly fatal withdrawal symptoms in return for an almost supernatural ability to observe the world around him and see things consciously for what they are. I'm not saying it's 100% right, I'm saying it seems to be intuitively correct and basing their theory about it on some of the actual science and not just acid-trip superstition like Lucy.

So in Home Alone 3 spies are trying to get a chip through customs to North Korea. In Lucy, Mr. Jang is a Korean mob boss. In Lucy, Scarlett is a "carefree student" who is supposed to meet a business contact with her boyfriend, coincidental since her father works for Globecom as Head of Sales (they even had a mansion in Home Alone 3) in In Good Company. Her name in both HA3 and IGC is Alex, by the way. We don't what she planned to study at NYU in IGC, nor do we know what she studied as a student in Lucy. Anyways, those 3 movies flow together awkwardly enough. We then get to Her, where she gets into philosophy, re-humanizing herself after ascension into the internet. It's entirely plausible that she studied something like Comp Sci at NYU during IGC/Lucy's gap. Also, her father worked for Globecom, a telecom company, meaning it's not impossible that she would have a good grasp of computers. So what about the chip going to Korea in HA3? May have been an AI chip that would allow people to upload consciousness. It may have failed, but worked it's way through Korea anyways and been something of study to a comp sci major who had almost been kidnapped over it. Just spitballing here.

Ya'll kind of missed the point of Lucy, I guess. Human Lucy touching Australopithecus Lucy's finger is what sparked sentience in the human race. See, cuz she traveled back in time? Then she travels back to the present and transcends to a higher plane of existence. That kind of skips anything else.

The theory's wrong unfortunately because, if I recall correctly, both films referenced the characters (Lucy and Samantha) reaching the technological singularity. How and why would someone/something reach this singularity twice? You also left out a plot point of Her where it is stated that Samantha was not the only AI.

yea no,.....she is a lot more than just the internet. she's in a much higher dimension being able to shift through time and be anywhere at anytime. she chose to use technology to communicate with everyone because it's what we can understand but she can probably communicate in ways we wouldn't be able to imagine or comprehend because we are only 3 dimensional objects experiencing the 4th which is time.

Fun Stupid Fan Theory of My Own: Kevin Spacey is playing the same character in GlenGarry Glen Ross, The Usual Suspects, and Se7en. He suffers from severe delusions and concocts this story in the criminal underworld after leaving his original job about Keyser Soze, a master criminal boogeyman. That contents him for a while until his secret identities blend together and he goes full on crazy and becomes John Doe in Se7en.

How did you guys miss Under the Skin as a transitional between Lucy and Her. Clearly at some point after Lucy she realized that there was a part of her that needed humans for sustenance (emotional, physical). This plays well with the "needs love/affection part of the theory. There's also a black goop in UTS. I understand that in UTS it shows her perish at the end, but there is no real way of knowing if that was a real death, and it would account nicely for the lack of physical form in Her.
