Microbial shroud (especially on queens) is brutal against Carriers, but it's stationary. I think the strategy has to be limiting creep spread and staying as mobile as possible. That's really tough going up against Scarlett, though, whose creep spread is one of the best in the game.

Yeah carrier/void just can't get things done into that. Asuna needed to get off the air deathball, chargelot runbys outrun queen/infestor/brood lord. She has to make lings, banes, roaches, or ultras to deal with the zealots - all of which lose to void/carrier.

Asuna was so behind in economy and wasted too much resources at the start without getting much done to impact scarlett... if he had more resources he could have gone into templar or disruptor... hell even mass chargelots would have helped the carriers a lot more than what he had there.

All in all it's just a case of Asuna being behind and not having enough money to tech up all the essentials. I find it very difficult to catch up with zerg once they got that deathball rolling.

@@Bonefinger Arguably since Scarlett is generally so good at creep spread, losing the ability to Transfuse off creep probably doesn't hurt her as much as other regular Zerg players. If the latest patch was actually designed by her, then I'd say that she's trying to encourage more Zerg players to be more mindful of their creep placement and spread by limiting such a powerful defensive tool in the earlier stages of a match. Obviously a player wants to try to limit a Queen's time off creep because of their drastically reduced movement, but now this change makes it even more imperative Queens remain near or on creep instead of trying to heavily punish a failed push by what is a fairly cheap unit.

The immortal micro is a double edge sword as it demands too much attention which means the player can't think about expansion and further strategy. You can see how scarlet was Abit clumsy in shutting down the remaining immortal and warp prison. That's because she's more focused on her production.

I feel like Asuna made a mistake in the 1st game by not killing Scarlett's main hatchery. 3 immortals were there, it had about 2/3rds HP and could literally kill it in like 8 seconds, but he went back to try and save the robo and such. Maybe it's just me being bad but I feel like focusing the hatchery guarantees SIGNIFICANT gain by stopping more queens, no unit production from the main, etc. Leaving tech vulnerable while literally cutting the economy in half for Scarlett.

Carriers are the worst units in the game in many respects. Most of the time, it seems as if you're better off building tempests instead of void rays, both against terran and zerg. Those are still slow and expensive, with far worse potential DPS, but they can actually burst down stuff, kite, deal with armour, and just generally duel and seige, which carriers so often can't.

Nah, at that point, asuna had already lost the game. Losing the probe was a big deal and letting the ravagers go onto the lowground to wipe out most of the batteries and the robo was game over. I'm kinda happy for this possibility for zerg. Building carriers only with some archons/storm and calling it a day with zerg needing 2 different spellcasters, overseers, corruptors and stuff is kinda bad design. Also i disagree: If played perfectly with oracles, mothership, tempests, carriers, immortals and high templar, i'm pretty sure protoss wins every time. There's a game of harstem vs serral in which they draw and that mostly because harstem fucks up at some point and loses too much of his army. HT outranging vipers (feedback) and mothership having cloak at a range together with oracles and tempests just can't be beaten by zerg units unless protoss makes mistakes.

No hard feelings, but: Clown tier suggestion. If you spawn them with 0 energy, you can no longer build them in response to agression because they will barely be able to do anything by the time an enemy rolls up unless you build them before anything else - and that severely hamper your ability to harass, tech up, or just respond to any cheese builds. Restoring shields faster will do nothing if they don't have energy to restore shields with.

I think MS and storm should cancel each other out 1) It's a counterplay move rather than "just wait for it to finish" for both spells. ie its more of a fire react fire react kind of thing than fire, okay lets put the whole battle on hold unless were already overwhelmingly winning. 2) zerg shouldnt stay in place anyway if your MS is stormed. An MS means "storm here" anyways. 3) it actually matters that you have more of one caster, or more energy on one caster, rather than having a single caster on the one side completely effing up the whole engagement.

@@madumlao with 175 hp on a queen and interceptors dealing a whopping 2 damage per attack to 3-armour-queens (3/3 carriers vs 3-armour queens and under shroud, that is), i doubt that storm would actually kill queens consistently enough, although i might be wrong there. Still, 4 sec storm deals only 90 damage so if the broods zone the HT to prevent a 2nd storm, i think the queens should be quite alright in that case. With storm cancelling shroud AND being able to still deal damage (by continously casting it), it's a similar situation like with shroud and storm, just without the shroud (should zerg not have enough energy for enough shrouds e.g.)

The way i look at it: without queens zergs would be basically limited to doing early game rushes, which are easy to counter when you expect them, zerg just arent viable in a longer game with 0 queens. Without BCs terrans are fine, plenty of games have no BCs built even in late game.

@@coyrex1250 yeah, queens are necessary for zerg, and a lot cheaper in cost, supply, and build time than BCs. But BCs are amazing units when you have them. Whilst they aren't necessary for terran, they just offer so much damage, bulk, alpha strike potential and harassment/counterattack potential. Plus, they have insane survivability if you micro the teleport correctly. They are better than the protos mothership. So whilst queens are certainly S tier, BCs are also very much S tier, so it's a hard choice. It should be noted that i am biased towards ships.

Carriers are way too over rated... mass void rays would have been stronger, more mobility no chance of being a useless floating unit like carriers, and what I've also found is for some odd reason pro's will not get shield upgrades until late late game... its practically like saying I don't really need half of my armor. When I was new I didn't know that was a thing but when I found out and added it to my +1/1 timing and so on it makes a world of a difference

@@thomasknockout he never had "a bunch of voids" he has always below 10, and me personally ibwont build more then 2-4 carriers if I have 20+ voids this us only so the interceptors or the carriers themselves are face tanking for my voids. Voids are faster can disengage easier can pick off key buildings like spire or bases extremely quickly and when you spam click a single sp9t they can all clump up for a full army recall. I've play both was enough times to know void rays and shield upgrades need to be added to their comps and they would win more. Let's say microbial shroud does make my dmg irrelevant. Just fly under a shield bat with flux viens and re engage after its over. With carried there is no real disengage and then if your interceptors go down your a sitting duck

To answer your question. Void rays don't deal that much damage to queens by deafult. That queen was inside Microbial Shroud which decreases damage done by air units by 50%. So the queen was taking 50% less damage than normal. You can also see that she was being transfused by other queens. Transfuse not only tops the queens health off but it also gives a healing over time effect were 50hp is being restored over 7 seconds. So the queen did take damage but not very much. Due to a combination of armor + shroud + transfuse.

@@butte5359 Thx, I didn't know about that microbial shroud skill. It still looks a bit sketchy though xD. Void rays have beam activated which boosts dmg against armored units and the queen doesn't even get full hp, her health just stays on the same level ^^. Probably a coincidence but I'd be interested in an in-depth analysis of this one :p After all 7 void rays total 1750/1400 if I'm not wrong and they had their skill active... ^^

@@okalsdi You are right about the void rays ability, which boosts their damage against armored units. Keep in mind though that queens are not armored, so this ability does nothing against them, void rays damage stay the same. I think this demonstrates how powerful of an ability that shroud is. It would not be that hard to calculate how much damage the queen is taking in this scenario. I don't have the game installed so I can't double check these numbers but this is based on what I found on wiki and how I recall the game working. The void rays damage in this game should be 9 ( because it's fully uppgraded) The queens armor raiting should be at 4 (because she is fully uppgraded) So the void ray should do 5 damage per attack ( 9 - 4 ). Void rays beam does damage every 0,36 seconds. Which would normally mean 15 damage ever 1,08 seconds Now the shroud reduces damage, as far as I know, BEFORE the armor does. This means that the void ray which used to do 9 damage now suddenly only does 4.5 ( 50% of 9 is 4,5) . So the void ray does 4,5 damage and the queen has 4 armor, which means that the void ray does 0,5 damage per attack ( 4,5 - 4 ). I think there are 7 voids attacking the queen, so in other words the queen is taking 3,5 damage ( 7*0,5 ) every 0,36seconds, or 10,5 damage every 1,08 seconds. Now I think the queen was transfused during that fight. Transfusion not only heals instantly but also heals 50hp over 7 seconds. This means that every second the queen is healed for a little over 7hp. So if I saw correctly and the queen was transfused and my math is correct then the following happend: She is taking 10,5 damage every 1,08 seconds but also being healed during that time for about 7 hp every second. A Queen has 175hp o it's no wonder that it seems like she is taking no damage at all, because that type of damage she is taking is essentially tickling the Queen. If anyone wants to check my math here or if I got something wrong, then I would love to be corrected. It's possible that there were 8 voids attacking the queen for an example, it's hard to tell.

Finally? This is a pretty basic concept of how races are balanced in Starcraft that's been understood for a while, and there's nothing especially insightful about this commentator mentioning it; he's probably just saying it here for people who don't have much experience with the game much more than anything else, since it's a pretty obvious dynamic once you've watched a decent number of games or gotten to an ok spot on ladder.
