Wow! What a huge bunker you showed us today. I think the bunker had complete lighting with cables and switches. But that after the war the civilian population took everything away for their own use. My grandmother, who lived in Oslo during the war, has told me that after the war they even cut off the rubber tires on the cannons to use for shoe soles.

Yeah I'd imagine back then bunkers being historical was not high on the list...if it was even on the list. I wish now my grandfather had talked about the war but after watching you ur vids HH. I can understand why he didn't. I also understand from my dad, his dad had relatives still in Germany during the war...no idea if they fought for the wehrmacht or not tho. Never knew or asked.

What an incredible massive bunker this was HH and of course I 'am thrilled to have donated to be one of the many Historical People on the list. The detail of engineering is amazing and it is mind boggling that some of these place have not been restored or turned into some kind of hotel or museum. Even with it not having been finished, just imagine the time already spent. It looks like the heater, ventilation system, flusing toilets, hot & cold running water, water basins, coat hangers, generators etc were installed. Certainly was posh. Very impressive and advanced for the time. It must have been spooky as you didn't have your side kick EE with you. The Wuben X1 kicks butt. Good thing you remembered to bring it along. :) I wonder what was behind that looked door.? A fertile ground for ghosts. A brave man you are HH. Yes, I too wonder who the first German soldier was that set foot inside and the last one who exited the bunker. Just imagine 7 million dollars by today's standards to build a highly efficient bunker like that. Yes, why are the locks on the outside? It was easy to get lost in that huge bunker. It did seem that high quality resources were utilized. Thank you for taking us there, HH. ❤

I believe the door locks are on the outside so that they could control access to those rooms. Lock them at the end of the day.

I think they are located on the appropriate side for whichever way the door swings. The doors mostly swing inwards into those rooms, and have a flange that works as a stopper, so the lock would need to be on the outside for the door to latch shut. If that makes sense?

23:50 what you have there looks like 2 projection rooms pointing into the big room which was possibly the meeting & planning room. They showed films onto the wall for the senior officers? Maybe intelligence they have filmed for briefings but it fits with the tyoe of building. This was a VERY important centre for something. Evidence of a LOT of generators, air purifier machines, compressors etc.

What a fantastic tour! That's a BIG bunker! Too bad they didn't have the glowing paint on the walls. It's amazing to see the writings still on the walls and not destroyed by the grafitti idiots. Someone wanted those tiles badly. That's a lot of work to get those things off. I thoroughly enjoyed this little adventure. I hope EE is doing better. Take care and stay safe. 💖💯

That's a BIG bunker! I have to think that several houses nearby have tile in their bathrooms that look a LOT like the white tiles from the walls in that place. Just getting them off and cleaning them for reuse is hard work, so they earned them lol.

That is one spectacularly massive Firing Control bunker. Just love seeing those builders marks still on the walls. Most of the sums on the walls are additions, with a few multiplications. Would love to know what they were all about. Certainly looks like only the top level was fully finished before the troops moved in. The colour codes for the pipes in these bunkers are; Yellow - air extraction, Blue - clean air in, Red - emergency line (air or water), Orange/Brown - fuel, Green - water, Green with Black bands - sewerage, Grey/Black - communication, Black with Red bands - power. So cool to see these colours "in action" so to speak. The locks on the outside of those rooms was very curious. Probably means this is were the Enigma machines, maps, and other sensitive materials, were kept. Only personnel with the right keys could come and go. The two small rooms off the main room were probably individual radio/telephone rooms. One would be for sending/receiving information to, and from, other local area bunkers, headquarters etc. and the other for sending/receiving info, to and from, adjoining military areas, Army Group HQ's, and above (Berlin). Thank you for a truly fascinating explore. Would love to have seen that place in operation, or just after the last man left! Cheers to you both!

Locks on the outside of the doors, could mean secret or communication equipment inside the room that need protection, or generator rooms, if there was a fire, the doors can be locked to contain it. I am thinking those holes in the wall of that interior room, remind me of the old cinema projection slots, so they could have been fed information from the range finders, and displayed it on the wall or screen for several peolpe to see at once. When l see some of the huge bunker complexes you explore it makes me think of ancient Greek and Roman ruins and medieval castles still standing today. While some back in those terrible days thought the Third Reich would last a thousand years, baring those nature will reclaim, some of these will certainly be around l guess.

I'm not even half way through the video and I'm blown away at the details left behind. In particular, the little things like the drawings, numbers, markings and calculations left on the walls are precious. They give hints of the ordinary life of the occupants, which I always look out for in your posts. Regarding the door locks being on the outside of the room, I can certainly see that as a useful thing for technical rooms, so none of the soldiers could get in and interfere with the equipment. Perhaps there was communications equipment in there that transmitted and received secret, coded messages. Just got to the point where you're exploring the big room where they may have planned and plotted the gun solutions. I'm wondering if those small rooms around the corner were communication stations where radio and telephone operators could transmit the solutions to the gun positions. They might have been handed the paper through the small holes. And just as I wrote that, you said pretty much exactly the same thing 😋 What strikes me is that this must be one of the most relatively well-appointed bunkers we've seen so far that wasn't preserved or rebuilt as a museum. I'm frankly astounded that so much is still there, particularly considering it's been invaded by kids who have much less knowledge and resp t for the history of the place.. And your number for the cost of building the bunker is incredible, which shows that it must have been one of the most important installations, with some suitably important bigwigs in command. Thank you thank you thank you! I hope that maybe you can take Eagle Eyes down there at some point (he must have still been sick in this video, poor lad!), I know he'd have a blast there.

With a bunker that large, I would think that it would have had a kitchen and dining area. I wonder if the two openings in the range finder room, were for handing out the information from the range finder personnel to the communications personnel to be radioed to the artillery positions? This location must have been planned to be a very important position for the defense of the German military. Wouldn’t it be interesting to know exactly which each room was used for and the type of equipment in each one. After seeing the luxurious living conditions the Germans had, the locals probably hated them even more. Another great location you have brought to us.

What a great site! Shame that Eagle Eyes was sick so couldn't go. Always fascinating to me how these old sites get flooded. Been to many old coastal forts here in the U.S. and there are flooding issues. Would've liked to see the outside of the bunker. Fascinating all the original writing on the walls. Shame the vandals have to put up the graffiti. Loved seeing the old washrooms and latrines.

Yes lots of them are really badly flooded sometimes. Outside almost 90 % of the bunker is buried actually. EE is fully healed now and thanks my friend for your great support :)

You have to wonder if, in some damp basement in Germany, there isn't a set of plans for this building. It would be interesting to know what the final configuration would have been. That explains all the water and moisture inside the dome. You will love this, I will be meeting with the carbon fiber printer manufacturer, at the beginning of April about robot development and your ROV grippers. They also want to see some of the items that have been brought up. Going to see if I can get some new viewers for the channel.

Locks on the outside are to keep people out of those spaces they didn’t want unauthorized access to. Mostly electronics, water, filter, heating ect… big old locks like that were what the Germans used.

The question you asked about the doors in the underground German bunker explore video they are fire doors so if there was a fire in that compartment the doors could be closed and locked. The ventilation system switched off which were dense smother the fire. It would also stop carbon monoxide leaks as well.

Door locks on the outside isnt defense for people right so is it possible to contain a fire in a tech room so creating comparts that can be closed and smoke doesn't fill up the entire bunker forcing them to evacuate? The fire triangle. Take away oxygen is one part a fire needs so the fire cannot sustain itself? Just a guess.

@@WW2HistoryHunter I think it must be something like that to suppress a fire in tech rooms. Shut the sealed steel door. Close an intake valve of fresh air to that room in another room. Fire dies and check through the glass hole. Open the valve again to force all the smoke out. And start repairs. The outer defenses are probably a couple of defense rings and corners to deflect blasts of enemy forces throwing in hand grenades or teargas. This seems more like a fire suppression thing. And if the enemy is this deep in your bunker they get to tech rooms, you are not locking yourself into a tiny room cause they ain't leaving till you come out after you ran out of food and water. Might as well surrender straight away.
