I'm genuinely surprised in the basement death that no one connected "missing person last seen walking into this basement" and "persistent horrible smell from basement". Seems like an easy line to connect, idk.
@redtailarts101
@redtailarts101 Жыл бұрын
Well, for one, it wasn't an established fact that he was last seen going into the basement. Maybe nobody saw him go down there, and it was a party so he could have come back up and just left as far as anyone knew. Obviously that didn't happen but they didn't know that yet Plus the smell in the basement wasn't reported shortly after Edwardo disappeared. It had been 3 months at that point, so police had no reason to believe they were related. Even the fact that the smell likely first started after he disappeared, the club may not have suspected their missing DJ died in their club because they had no idea it had been coming from the basement.

The smell should've raised questions. If I ran a public venue and suddenly a terrible stink became apparent, I'd want it sorting out pronto for the sake of my own and its reputation. Who'd want to spend time in a bar that stank of rotting corpse...?

@@sirensynapse5603here's the thing. Because of the low amount of air circulation it would have been a while before it stated to stink up the place. Also they still allowed smoking in the bar so the massive smell of smoke would have masked it pretty heavily.

Positional asphyxia also killed a lot of child chimney sweeps in the Victorian age. The kid would be sent into the chimney to clean up blockages, slip, get trapped in the tight space and die, unless (and even if) the house owners gave permission to smash in the walls in time to get the child out.

There's a case where a guy it's stuck in a closet and Armoire somehow fell hitting the closet door trapping the guy in the closet. It was so heavy he couldn't open the closet door. He also was trapped in the dark. He screamed, yell and banged on the door and walls to no avail. Somehow he noticed a pipe above head in the closet, he broke piece of the pipe off to use to try to make a whole in the wall opposite the door. To his horror behind the drywall or paneling was a cinder block. To matters worst the pipe he broke was a water line so now water is gushing out hitting him non stop. His neighbors at one point heard the banging for a few days non-stop. On like the 2nd or 3rd day they said if the banging continued they would go investigate. Just when they were going go over to his house the banging stop so they didn't go over to his house. Someone noticed the water coming from his house and called the Police. Police arrive go into house and sees all the water and try to find the source. They ended up in bedroom where they saw this huge Armoire against the closet door. It took two officers to move the Armoire when they opened the door and saw his lifeless body. He died of hypothermia from the freezing water.

I think it was omitted for the sake of brevity, but in the case of 3, didn't crime scene investigators recreate the crime scene (with donated bodies) to show that it was highly suspicious Todd didn't have any flies or eggs infesting him when he was found? I recall they recreated how the body was found and the elements surrounding that three times and each time the donated bodies were quickly inhabited by scavenger insects, but Todd's body was untouched when it was discovered, which was a hell of a red flag as to what happened to him.

and yet my elderly in-laws have a modest home and a few closets that i could swear have not been opened in years. the lifestyle of a quiet peaceful and well organized retiree can sometimes mean they don't even need their extra sheets as they just wash and replace the same set in a day. it's different knowing this man did go to work, but he was older and living alone. sometimes there's just less chores to do and the supplies in a closet are forgotten for a while. it's so different from my life in a similar sized home where every storage space is busy and bursting but that's because i'm 30! planning a family and living with a full schedule and huge accumulation of old and new clothes, hobbies, projects, too much stuff! which i'm in the process of cleaning out. on the flip side, some people get to their later years where they're much better at living minimally, (i hoard a lot less now than i did at 20.) so eventually some don't need that closet space. and suddenly the squatter making it their home makes sense... so unnerving but i do respect him for not pressing charges and respect her for never harming the man. clearly was just a normal person who hated being homeless, as any of us would!

I live in a three bedroom house at the moment alone. In the two other bedrooms, I have only opened the closets maybe twice in the past year? And I haven't opened the cupboards in the kitchen for a year; this is because due to ADHD I really struggle to find things that aren't visible. If it's in a cupboard behind a closed door, and it's not something I'm basically trained to open (e.g. the cutlery drawer), I _will_ completely forget about its existence.

Story #2 - Whenever I hear stories about people going into bars and never coming back, seeming to just vanish without a trace, I always wonder if there will ever be an update of a body of the missing person found wedged somewhere like in this story. A case similar to this story happened in Columbus, Ohio. I think the bar is called the Ugly Tuna? Same. I would be **terrified** to find a stranger in my house, no question about that. But it's also absolutely not her fault. It doesn't have to be a "one person is in the right" situation: I'm totally justified about being terrified of a stranger being in my house, and she's totally justified for being so unfortunate as to become homeless and trying to survive. She didn't take any valuables, she tried not to disturb the man, she just wanted shelter and food - something that should be a universal human right and should be provided by the state. Not all drown victims have water in their lungs. It’s usually 50/50. His body had zero signs of trauma to it so no signs of struggle, bruising, cuts, abrasions, or any of that. You also have to consider it is in the pitch black that he is trying to swim while intoxicated. Drunk people drown in their own well lit pools all the time so being in complete darkness with no sight of which direction land might be in is an easy circumstance to drown in. Bug activity can be reduced by the season or unusually colder weather. Cold water in particular would have very little bug activity. The levity inconsistencies could be explained by the fact he was in water and not on land. Hours in the water the body would not stay in perfect position it would shuffle and move around as it decomposed and released gases and underwent physical changes, not to mention wind, waves, and bumping into obstacles. Accidental drowning overwhelmingly seems the most logical explanation.

Interesting. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't think I have seen smiley face graffiti around me. There isn't that much to be fair, but it's usually just penises, or someone's initials, or a political message (e.g. seen a couple 'free palestine's around). But I very well could have missed something, or it could just be because there isn't much.

The smiley face killers just seems like the dumbest urban legend. The way the people are killed aren't even the same way! Like if there were 20 cases where a guy is found standing up in the water like this victim was then I'd say, "ok, shared MO, that sounds like the same killer." But this is literally the only guy we know of found like this - that's why it's such a popular story on True Crime youtube! Because how rare and strange it is!

Not to mention a smiley face is one of the most common pieces of graffiti there is, along with stickers, badges, etc. A lot of the linked "victims" are found drowned in urban bodies of water with high blood alcohol contents. So... popular white guys who are drunk are being mysteriously murdered by someone who travels the country, overpowers and drowns them without drawing any attention, and then ritually leaves a calling card in the form of incredibly generic graffiti, OR popular white guys who are drunk sometimes fall into water and drown and there happens to be an incredibly generic piece of graffiti nearby. HMM. I guess we'll never know.

Todd's case has weirded me out since i first heard it. i can't imagine any reality where he would choose to "take a swim" at that time, but if he didn't have his phone it's possible he might have dropped it in the water and then went in to get it. His feet got stuck in the mud and he couldn't get them out. I have walked in a river before and this almost happened to me. In this case he was too drunk to know that was a bad idea and too drunk to swim. That is, if he wasn't placed there.

Lore Lodge did a breakdown of it about a month ago. It's pretty clear that he couldn't have been there for the 3 weeks he was supposed to have since his body hadn't decomposed enough to have been in the lake for 3 days, let alone 3 weeks. Besides, quite a few people used the lake, and it wasn't big enough for them to have not noticed his body.

maybe I'm overly skeptical of supernatural things, but with how accurate the psychic's description was in the third story, I would be looking into that if I were the police
@ItsAv3rageGamer

I'd like to know how quickly the body was found after the psychic told them to look there. Is it possible this information was publicised? Possibly the murderer realised the police were looking into that location and wanted his body found, so put it in a place they knew the police were already searching?
@someguy999
@someguy999 Жыл бұрын
My guess is that what people believe the psychic said wasn't entirely accurate. Psychics use a technique known as cold reading, which is intentionally vague and tends to lead to confirmation bias. I think it's plausible that the psychic gave multiple vague predictions and that only the hits were reported or remembered. It would be a huge coincidence if the family contacted a psychic that also happened to be involved and also risk being caught by disclosing the location of the body. Misreporting and the limitations of human memories are more likely in my opinion.
@ItsAv3rageGamer
@ItsAv3rageGamer Жыл бұрын
@@someguy999 I've never understood why people give psychics the time of day. They're just scam artists taking advantage of people in traumatic circumstances. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, most of these 'readings' just involve giving out the most obvious explanations to a lot of these mysteries. So it's not too surprising when some of them turn out to be true. In this case, pointing the family/police to the nearest body of water really isn't that great of a leap.

There is no such thing as "overly skeptical of supernatural things". If psychic power is real, he/she wouldn't be that off by that much margin. You see the map, it is not that difficult to come up with that good guess, Psychic people are good at gathering the right information to make a guess as good as possible. And as someone else has pointed out, the hits are remembered and the misses are mostly forgotten. In this case, the believers of the supernatural will only remember "the psychic guessed the general location right which is the marsh" but forgets that "the exact location is inaccurate by a whopping 67%"

@crookedtimber6227

The last case - young man found in body of water - sounds like accidental drowning. Having two different anti-depressants in his system, neither of which had been prescribed, could be explained (possibly) as some pills he was given at the party (ie. he might've been told it was MDMA or something). Starting just one type of anti-depressant can have strong side-effects for people, including disorientation, light-headedness etc. which could've contributed to his going in the wrong direction and ending up, deliberately or not, in the pond. The 'smiley-face' theory is a great example of what happens when investigators forget to use logic: what demographic is most likely to be intoxicated and end up in a body of water? Young men. What do kids spray-paint or scrawl wherever they're not being observed? It used to be swastikas, but smiley-faces seem just as popular now. And yes, they're graffitied somewhere near the body of water because drain culverts, bridges and overpasses often have areas where people can hang out, drink, graffiti etc. without being observed. There's a clear possible link between these things that suggests tragic accidental death and coincidence. I can understand the grieving families, searching for meaning, wondering if there is something to this 'smiley-face' idea. I can't understand why a detective would be promoting it though, unless he wants his reputation forever ruined.

Is it possible that Todd was a victim of "dry drowning"? If he entered the water voluntarily but subsequently lost consciousness that would explain the lack of water in his lungs, as to lividity it's also possible he died head down before his body's buoyancy changed due to decomposition. This could also explain the absence of insect infestation, just a thought. It is weird but then again if wasn't, we wouldn't be commenting on it. Cheers, I always look forward to your work.

@@BornIn1500 In Tatsuko's case it appears she went out of her way to clean the house and look after herself. Sadly your average drug induced homeless person wouldn't have those same standards and would not be welcome in most homes. What a rubbish comparison.

I was really happy to hear he didn't press charges. He was within his right to, but her story is quite sad, and she never did any harm even to his possessions. Even though she scared the absolute shit out of him, he saw she wasn't being malicious and did the kind thing.

@@BornIn1500 we all know do we? How perceptive of you oh sanctimonious one. How do you know what I do for my community or for complete strangers? Look to yourself rather than preaching and making assumptions. You do your bit and I’ll do mine thank you.

That smiley face killings might be a massive murder club. Putting a victim in water destroys Forensic evidence. It's not hard to believe in this day and age a group would commit such mindless violence just for the kicks.

The story of that dude that supposedly drowned, could it be that those antidepressants were not taken by him but someone forced him to take them? As horrible as it is, i know GABA agonists are used to spike drinks at clubs. Is there any reason someone would want him to ingest antidepressants?

Lore Lodge did a breakdown of the case about a month ago, and I would recommend watching it if you are interested, since they rule out basically anything other than foul play.

@@evanlogan3595 i've watched it, and based on this video, he was kidnapped, drugged, and left in that lake, and the police was paid off to not investigate. thx for the recommendation

@@piosenki001 Seemed to me more like the police had no idea where to start and couldn't be arsed to investigate further; since there is no reason to suspect them being paid off that isn't adequately explained by them just being lazy and picking the explanation that required the least work for them.
