This is an awesome series. Please continue with this series. I'm obsessed with watching "I Shouldn't Be Alive" & "I Survived", & now this is my new favorite. There's so many amazing stories about survival & near death experiences. I myself have a story. I almost died when I was 20 & in college. I was brutally beaten by 5 guys, given a deadly amount of rohypnol & was left to die out in some orchards in the dead of summer with no clothes on causing burns all over. I had broken bones, including a compound fracture on my right humerus. I had human bites all over my body, internal tearings & so much more. It took me a year to walk again & 6 weeks to talk right because I had a broken jaw but now if you look at me without seeing my scars you wouldn't believe I went through all that. I'm very blessed to be alive especially because I'm a Mom now. I have no memory of the event which is both a blessing & a curse. Life is so beautiful & I live every second as though it's my last. It wasn't easy & I still struggle but I get up everytime I'm down. Life is both fragile & hard, both beautiful & ugly, both fast & slow but every moment is worth every breath.

I was shot in the head in 2007. It was a quick lesson in how quickly you can lose everything and that all the petty hangups we hold onto are pointless. In the fraction of a second everything you are, can be or were can be lost. There's no nobility in holding onto past grievances

@cattymajiv thank you for your kind words and compassion. About a year ago at work, me and a coworker were filling 2,000lb bags with dry product, but the bottom was left open after we filled it. He raised it up with a forklift, and I went under to tie it, but he thought I was just checking and started going down. STG, never screamed so hard in my life, had my cheeks bruised it pressed my head against the floor so hard. Glad I’m not a pancake these days

I was working at a massive shipping hub moving produce. I was one of the few floor workers, "lumpers" we were called, and we basically took a few layers of boxes off the top of the pallets to fit their shelves (trucks come in loaded to the ceiling on one skid). I got crushed by a drunken forklift driver between two skids of apples, one of the heavier, more solid products. Pretty sure it messed up my back, but I was a kid so I took a bribe from him and let it go because nobody saw. *Why couldn't it have been berries? THEY would have been crushed, not me lol.

That story about the men in the volcano was so intense. It gave me chills when you explained that the final survivor was hearing voices, but he wasn't able to identify them as rescuers, hallucinations, or taunts from the volcano. I think anyone who has ever spent time alone in nature has had those moments where noise plays frightening tricks on them, and that kind of detail really raises the quality storytelling to another level. Small insights like that are why I am I am always happy to see you have posted.

My grandmother was born during the Great Depression. She dealt with many health issues throughout her life. As a child, she survived and maintained mobility after being attacked by a dog, getting run over by a car, and having polio. She lived to 83, after having five kids and being married to my grandfather for 67 years. One of the things that happened to her as an adult was that after having her thyroid killed with a radioactive isotope (which is a practice still used in modern medicine), it grew back.

Enjoyed the video. Ive been a skydiver for about ten years. Most skydiving rigs have whats called an AAD( automatic activation device). It deploys your canopy if you are below a certain altitude falling above a certain speed in the event that you are unconscious and cant pull your piolet chute. It wouldn't have made a difference in this case since his instructor was able to deploy his canopy but its something that can save your life should you need it. Anyway, enjoyed the video.

How do you get over the fear of the first jump? I imagine after your first time, it's much easier to commit to jumping afterwards. I've always wanted to skydive but idk if I could make myself do it
@HoHhoch Жыл бұрын
@gdawgs101 Look into doing a tandem jump. A certified diver is basically strapped to your back. All you have to do is enjoy the ride, and they take care of the rest. I did two. One was what skydivers call "tandem factories." Basically, all they do is take people who've never jumped before and make it a whole thing. They even gave me a certificate. 😅 If there's a sky diving location that's known for it's tandem diving, that's what you want.

@benji45645 Жыл бұрын
@@QuestionThings123 my old coach would run a day camp during the summer, driving us around to different places of interest in his van. I once got to sit shotgun, and I noticed he wasn't wearing a seat belt so I asked him why. Apparently, years back he was driving alone behind a platform truck in bad weather and late at night, and he began to fall asleep from exhaustion (I think it was the tail end of a long drive). For some reason he didn't have the chest restraint (I don't remember if it was a lap belt or if he just didn't have a belt at all). Long story short, he fell asleep, top half of his body folded towards his knees, and his car got violently introduced to the metal platform of the truck and his canopy was sheered off as the car went under the truck. He said if he was restrained upright, he would've been decapitated. From that day onwards I think he was too scared to ever wear a seatbelt, but of course he always made sure we had ours on for safety. It's interesting how sometimes safety devices can cause more harm than good, but they do still help in most of the more common situations.

When I was 10 years old, at the end of pe, we were putting back all the equipment used and there were three of those wooden and metal benches stacked up with a big gym mat on it, so in order to clean it up people started to push the mat whilst I, on the other side tried to lift it, I had no idea they were pushing the mat and the benches fell over and onto me, they snapped my upper leg and I scrambled to the wall. My teacher told me to walk it off and I refused but he insisted so I did and my leg folded so my knee was now pushed up to my hip. Luckily the broken bone was my only injury but it could’ve been far worse since theres a big artery in that area.

Almost died when I was a kid, had a bad asthma attack and got rushed to hospital, they gave me some meds and I reacted BADLY so I was losing consciousness, could barely breathe, I remember docs coming into the room with paddles, but whatever they injected into me (I got told when older it was something like adrenaline, this was back in ‘96 tho so I don’t really know for sure) got me breathing fast, I wasn’t slipping into unconsciousness, I was actually able to BREATHE. That feeling alone was amazing. I was 6, it was terrifying. Other time I was a day or so from death was a mouth infection starting to go septic, which will absolutely end you. I had an infection, went to the dentist, they did some major oral surgery, told me “don’t smoke or drink for 48 hours.” I don’t drink, but I was smoking as soon as I left the building which made everything 100x worse. My face ballooned on the left side, so much so that my left eye was shut closed due to the swelling from this infection. I put off going to the hospital for 2 days believing the antibiotics they gave me would help (they didn’t). Hospital gave me an IV drip and told me I needed to head to Aberdeen (was from Elgin) to the city hospital because they couldn’t properly help in Elgin, I got a lift from my friend so I wasn’t taking up an ambulance the NHS could better use, also gave me time to get clothes and items for a hospital stay. Got to hospital and was immediately taken in, they gave me IV drip, a bunch of meds, they had to do some minor cuts inside the top of my mouth to relieve pressure to the massive swelling and I’d be getting oral surgery the next day. When I spoke about smoking I don’t think I can explain just how ANGRY the dental doctor was, he was just incredibly disappointed and explained I was a day or so from dying from sepsis. The oral surgery was a success, I could either lose all my top teeth or die from sepsis (I have false teeth nowadays!) so I was happy for them to take whatever they needed out my mouth so I could live. I quite smoking immediately, haven’t felt tempted to smoke ever since then (2016), nothing else got me to quit smoking quit like almost dying from my own stupidity at 26! How these have affected me, well I’m mostly bedridden crippled with nerve damage, so I rely on a lot of pain meds, but I’m not afraid to speak to my doctor about ANY issue that’s happening because I trust them, they’ve literally saved my life twice so I have no fears talking to my docs. I also enjoy life for what it is, I could be angry or resentful at my disabilities OR I could just enjoy my life for what it is, I’m lucky that I’m happy where I live (Aberdeen, Scotland), I really love history and being full time disabled means I have a LOT of free time to look into local history, when physically able I will visit historical sites and document them around my country, I’ve become well known for being The Stone Nerd in my area where folk will contact me for information regarding Neolithic, Pictish and/or Gaelic stones/history. I also like reading and visit little libraries (locally run from old telephone boxes) where possible. So almost dying twice has just made me appreciate my life for what it is, instead of dwelling in misery at the hand life dealt me I’ve tried to use it to my advantage and use my free time to learn and honestly just appreciate living! I consider myself lucky all things considered!

These videos always give me an adrenaline rush! Love the topic today! Would also love to hear some survival stories of some gruesome animal attacks. Think I heard one about a man surviving an alligator/croc attack and had his arm ripped off while he survived for either a couple of days or hours trying to stop the bleeding while being surrounded by the crocs. Can't 100% say that's how the story goes but watched a documentary years ago and remember some of the small details. That story always stuck with me 😅
