Machine Connor story is sad because he's lying to himself about being a machine (remember how many times you choose to "LIE" in order to get this path? Him lying to deny he has felt something). He IS alive, he just chose a path of defying that idea. He chooses to act like a machine, but he is a living being, he just is lost. It's the path of not following your destiny.

Also, I think Hank (while the meeting at the rooftop with the sniper rifle) would genuinely talk this version of Connor into dropping the mission if they were friends at the time. Which, they can be, even if Connor shot Chloe and the Tracies if given he also protected Hank every chance he got, they are friends at this moment. But you cannot make that decision anymore. I was so sad. Honestly, quite a bummer that the one who can talk Connor out of being a killer machine is the leader of their rebellion who he just met, and not his only friend.

Especially because of the psychic android that says, "you're looking for something... you're looking for yourself" and when Kamski says, "That's what you're programmed to say but what about You. " ir even the fact that Connor was made with the fact that he would eventually turn deviant.

That's why the deviant path is supposedly the canonical path, because he never really was a machine following orders, he was still making his own decisions throughout the story that were player controlled, it wasn't like he was following direct orders

@@SaturnaliaRhys While Connor has been a deviant this whole time, his main personality is that he knows he was created for a reason, and his greatest fear is being a failure in the eyes of all humans bc that's what he sees as his life's purpose and only value. That's why when Hank confronts him during that bridge scene about whether he might be deviant too, he doesn't feel comfortable telling Hank, even if Connor has shown that he cares a lot about Hank or pities the deviants they've been hunting. Even if he spares Chloe, Connor adamantly denies his deviancy in front of Kamski, and Hank again, bc he can't bring himself to admit it to a human or he'll feel like a failure/worthless. It's only after talking to Markus, another prototype RK android just like him (which Connor finds out in the Stratford Tower mission and avoids telling Hank about), that Connor gains the confidence to change his 'purpose' like Markus did and break that deviancy barrier holding him back. He finally chooses to fight for his own people and not be afraid of disappointing Cyberlife/the humans who only see him as a means to an end.

Is it that in-world it's too late for Connor to change his ways (you can choose to leave Hank alone, but not abandon the mission entirely), or do you mean that the developers of the game literally removed the option to walk away during that chapter? If it's the latter, that sucks.

When you spare Chloe at Kamski test chapter, Hank seems to have a lot more trust in Connor, he even shares his opinion about deviants. In this one , hank seems to have a bit of distaste despite the relationionship stat.

Hank can also mention other scenario where you saved him if you killed Chloe. For example if you save him at Stratford tower when the deviant is about to shoot down everyone, then you can shoot him back and thats gonna save everyones lives And then Hanks says something similiar "Back at the Stratford tower when that deviant was about to shoot.. you saved my life, you put my life above the mission, you showed empathy Connor and empathy is a human emotion" I really love this game for how much different little scenes it can have if you did things differently.

There's also an alternate scene if you didn't kill Chloe (or killed her but didn't ask Kamski about Jericho) but neutral (and tense, too, perhaps? IDK) with Hank. In this case, Hank doesn't quit from his job but refuses to help Connor in distracting Perkins.

Just a guess here, but maybe you have to die multiple times, but help Hank on every other occasion? Because it seems like Hank implies Connor has died at least twice, but he still seems somewhat supportive of him (otherwise instead of "just a bit" he would've probably used a stronger language).

@KrivitskyM I found out. You have to die at least twice. At the first hostage mission and at the chase for rupert. You have to keep a good relationship to Hank until the bridge scene. You have to shoot both Tracies and then pick the coldest dialogues. And when you're at Kamskis place you need to shoot the girl and ask for Jericho. That's it I guess.

So if you wonder how can you get this scene than all you need to do is Get Hank to be a Friend when chasing Rubert and end up leaving him for dead ( will be down to Neutral ) and later kill 2 of the Tracie ( will be down to Tense ) And at the Tv Tower you need to shoot the deviant which make him Neutral and than final step is to shoot Chloe and will mark Hank as Tense ( so yeah from Friend to Tense is brutal )

@Bokenza You have to be good to him throughout the entire game to get a good ending. Choose the nice answers, save him on the roof, don't die a lot (if you die a lot, his opinion of you will go down regardless of how nice you are to him), do not kill the Tracis. Don't kill Chloe. There are ways to be negative to him at times and still get the good ending, but it is much easier to just be nice to him throughout.

I really dont know how people end up hostile with Hank. I shot Danile (which doesnt matter), got HK 400 destroyed, chased Kara and Alice to their destruction on the highway, chased Rupert, shot Tracies, shot JB300, Shot Chloe and told Hank that Im an android designed to accomplish a task and I was still only "TENSE".

@@Dark_Voice Did you get shot on the bridge? If you respond like a machine would, with aggressive or cold answers, you will get him hostile in that scene. Once he is hostile there, it's hard to get him out of it if you keep doing negative things. Though hostile hank at the end of the game is not a good place to be. It seemed fairly easy to me to keep hank hostile. If you spill his drink in the bar, don't find the 28 stab wounds android or die lots of times, you get get him to hostile and keep him in that range fairly eaisly.

@@AuroraXA Dont get me wrong. When I did my "get Hank as mad as possible" I was hostile so hard that when I went back even sparing Chloe wasnt enough to get me out of it. BUT I meant in my first playthrough. I shot all deviants and always obeyed and went after the objective of my mission. I was TENSE on the Bridge and didnt get shot. (Thats what I was talking about. If you dont try to get Hank into Hostile by being a total jerk with AGGRESSIVE etc. options, Hank respects you and people having trouble with being only hostile is beyond me.)

Okay, I hope you're gonna see my comment. When you faced Markus, could you deviate ? Because I also found this really weird set of dialogue that like no one's ever found xD And I just don't know how I managed to get that shit, but it was very cool, and I'd like to understand how to get it back (non-saved playthrough). And the only thing I know, is that the option to deviate didn't appear when I faced Markus. Appearently this dialogue shows up when you're red connor, but friend with hank (or not, just watched the end of the video, I really don't get it xD)

Was the dialogue you got the same as in this video or something different? I honestly don't remember if I was able to deviate or not. The balance between being able to deviate (software instability) and being friends with Hank is a fine line, really, and they don't always connect, though often times they do. It IS possible, for instance, to be mean to hank and end up hostile with him at the end of the game but still have enough software instability to deviate when confronted with Markus but it's harder to achieve this becasue you have to regulate your relationship with Hank but also really pay attention to how much instability you are able to get. For the clips in this video, I do explain how I got both options in the description. If you do the same things but also respond to Hank or Amanda with all of the software instability options, you might be able to deviate.
