Great video. I'm a man that really love road trips and glad to see that there are others that take the time out to do it. You mentioned in your content that "my people" don't really enjoy these types of adventures. There are more of us out there than you think. And I'm one of them. Very happy to see that you are out, taking the time with the family to enjoy a simple road trip. Myself has been up and down US 395.

as a kid back in the 1950's I remember when we got to the tree line between Bishop and the crest at Grant Lake you got the terrific whiff of pine in the air. On later trips during dryer times that was missing. Took my kids and grandkids over the years to June Lake. Still love the area.

@@AdventureEveryDay remember the Tiger Bar? Still in business. Many years ago on one of my trips with my younger son, his pal, and his pal's dad--neighbors- his dad introduced me to Southern Comfort. The hangover at 8,000 feet the next morning was not so much fun as the Tiger Bar the night before. I quit the sauce altogether not long after---after something really dumb at sea level.

One thing that I have never been able to figure out is exactly where the southern origin of US 395 is. I live in Escondido, CA and about 13 miles North of me on I-15, I cross under the US 395 overpass in Fallbrook. So, apparently, this highway has had some modifications from time to time. Good presentation. I grew up at a time before turnpikes and interstates. In California I grew up a mile from Highway 99. To get from one end of the state if you were on the coast it was the 101, and inland it was the 99.

Not sure exactly where 395 starts in the south, but it's a great route, one of our favorites!

Is this the route one would take if they were driving from, say, L.A. to Vegas? I'm from the east coast so forgive my ignorance
@AdventureEveryDay Жыл бұрын
No, this would be a potential way you could go from L.A. up to Reno, Nevada, but not Las Vegas. The main route between L.A. and Las Vegas would be I-15.

Awesome video! I love the 395 thru Mono County! Hopefully you can post vids for the 203 thru Mammoth Lakes up to Minaret Vista and side drive up to the Lakes Basin along with the 158-June Lake Loop and the “Switzerland of California” Obtw, the Mammoth Scenic Loop was originally built in the early 80’s as a evacuation route when there was a uptick in volcanic related activity from the Long Valley Caldera down by the 395 and 203 interchange. Summer of 83-ish I remember seeing a sign saying evacuation route at the intersection of the Scenic Loop and the 203…was not there the next summer when I visited Mammoth Lakes

I was on highway 395 this past weekend when I went to June lake and there were some awesome views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The 395 is also dangerous since I saw cars crossing over the broken yellow line to the pass slower traffic going south on the north bound side. If I didn’t have to take this road I prefer the 15 freeway over route 395 since the 15 has a middle divider and it is also wider with three lanes on both sides.
@AdventureEveryDay Жыл бұрын
395 is an amazing route with gorgeous scenery
@dustino.2297 Жыл бұрын
As long as you drive safely because some sections of this road don’t have a divider in the middle but I would like this road more if it had a divider wall in the middle making it safer for drivers.

Awesome video, one of these days I need to do road trip of 395 again, it's been way to long. At certain parts of the video I had "LCD Soundsystem - Oh Baby" playing while watching this, syncs up very well! Wish could have seen Mammoth for a minute but good to see Rhino's in Bridgeport is still there.

395 is one of the best roads! Glad to hear you found some music that you enjoy that pairs up nicely with the video. Some others seem to forget the music we add to our videos is optional and they can mute our videos and have playing whatever music/noise they enjoy in the background. A nice little diversion off of the US-395, would be the terminus segment of the CA-120. One-twenty, as you may be aware, shares about an 8-10 mile concurrency with the 395 going South, if you've just left Yosemite. It continues Eastwards off of the 395, for some 50-odd miles nearly to Nevada in the small hamlet and Indian Reservation of Benton, which lies on the US-6. Well, leaving the 395, you embark once again into another pretty Jeffrey Pine savanna and past some cinder cones. Then you cross some relict alkali flats for about 5 miles, cross over Sagehen Summit at about 8.2K' elevation, and, for many a mile, there's intermittent rimrock--though obviously not on the magnitude of Utah's(Laughs!!)--just to let you know that California's got a bit of rimrock, too--mesas and mittens--not as brilliantly colored and exotically formed--though worthy of note. This highway is supposed to shut down in Winters only, though the "authorities" can shut it down without warnings, explanations, any time, and indefinitely (I've even heard of hikers/wilderness travelers cited/jailed for trespass, in the general vicinity of the right-of-way.)--along with US-6 towards the South. That would maroon the 50-odd Benton citizens and the Reservation; they'd have to rely on Tonopah, Nevada (or charitable local ranchers' dirt tracks to get back sensibly South or West), hundreds of DESOLATE miles away, when Mammoth and Lee Vining are otherwise so CLOSE. The only explanations that I can think of, would be military exercises and the sacred rites of the Indians. Speaking of US-6, that highway goes all the way to the lighthouse of Massachusetts' Cape Cod. Why not have a "Lighthouse-to-Lighthouse" highway? Make the 120 part of the highway>then past 120's Western terminus at Mossdale on I-205/CA-99>205 becomes I-580, part of which is called the MacArthur Freeway>Oakland Eastbay>Emeryville>over the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge>San Rafael>Fairfax>along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard>Olema>Inverness>Point Reyes National Park and Seashore>and, finally, the LIGHTHOUSE of Point Reyes, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
