Here is hoping that it will be rebuilt in time. Scenic Railways are a dying breed that have played a very important role for roller coasters and amusement parks as a whole, so to see this come back would be a great sight. Do you know if they'll keep it historically accurate (like in the video) or if they'll modernize it (like the scenic railway in Bakken)?
@davidjellis10 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure they are trying to rebuild as per the original designs...keeping the brake man!
@hwd712 жыл бұрын
Seems similar to the one in Melbourne, but this one seems to be longer and has more jumps, which I think is built by the same brothers from America.
@davidjellis2 жыл бұрын
I don't know who built the Melbourne scenic...this one was designed by John Iles (not sure who built the original - however the ride has been rebuilt in recent years)
@mdteletom12885 жыл бұрын
I'd like to ride this if only because the ride is so long, about double that for a US coaster. And those rope lifts are pretty darn fast too. Nice ride.

+Smiffykid 2015 so how do you feel the new one is different to the old one...it's an identical ride?
@Gigidag779 жыл бұрын
+davidjellis Just judging from videos, the "double-down" drops seem to have lost their force. Also the ride now has magnetic-brake sections, so the Brakemen riding on the trains will only apply small adjustments. It's definitely slower, too. This onride lasts around 3:30 from start to station entrance, while the current one from tpr is over 4 minutes.
@davidjellis9 жыл бұрын
+Gigidag77 The new ride needs braking in...when I rode it Sunday the fog was coating the track and that was enough to stall the train before the first lift and on the last section before the station...give it a season and the ride should break in nicely.
@gadget22729 жыл бұрын
+davidjellis (ok, first, its me, smiffykid, but just under a new account) but none of it is original, it hasn't got any history now, all of the original coaster was demolished and rebuilt, its just a bit of wood which was constructed a few months ago, not the original coaster from the 20s
@Gigidag779 жыл бұрын
They re-used the old lift motor. So technically the "heart" of this coaster is still the original wich is why it isn't listed as a new entry on the "Rollercoaster Database" (rcdb) for example.
@gadget22728 жыл бұрын
Gigidag77 Oh Fuck Here Come's The Furfags! But In Awnser To Your Question, Everything Exept For That Is New, It's Still The "Same" Rollercoaster But Everything On It Is New, For Example: You Build A House, You Knock It Down, Then You Re-use The Old Front Door, But That Doesn't Make It The Same House

I remember riding this aswell experiencing it as a kid when visiting with my family, I used to love visiting this park, until it sadly burnt down. I'm not sure if I like the modern day version as I do prefer in my opinion the classic version to this, especially the trains without headboards, think trains look ugly now and the park still needs work, maybe an additional new ride and coaster like you see at Blackpool or Merlin Attractions. Just my opinion, but apart from this, nice video. Subscribed a long time back and have Liked the video. Keep up the good work. 😀👍
@davidjellis3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Daniel - I was just pleased that they were able to rebuild it...shame that modern day health & safety regulations led to the trains looking ugly, but it's still a fine ride...I just hope the park can survive and grow in these challenging times.

Oh wow!!! I am so glad I came across this. Thanks for sharing. I had so many great times in Dreamland as a kid, even when it became BemBoms. Without doubt, that was the best ride for me. The noises of the carriages being pulled up the first slope, the rattly hand bars. Oh, you brought it all back my friend. Who can remember the Wall of Death (it was where the Looping Star was sited), The Rotor, The Water Caves and the Sphinx?

Fantastic ride. Fingers crossed for the park reopening in 2015, hope to be there. The Great Yarmouth Rollercoaster is a slightly different layout and a faster coaster, it's second drop is out of view with head choppers to thrill it's riders. Two classic rides that must be saved for future generations.
@davidjellis10 жыл бұрын
Many thanks David, and I agree whole-heartedly about needing to preserve these two classic coasters for future generations. I have supported and followed the Save the Scenic / Dreamland campaign since it started, and I am hoping all goes well for the rebuild of the scenic railway over the coming year. The GY coaster has a special place in my heart as it was my first ever coaster (I live just 10 miles from there).

Hi David, I've one question - when you make a digital copy of the old videotapes do you use a recommended software to do this? 15 years ago there was nothing to film a smooth coaster ride. The both usa tapes are wonderful but sometimes very rough - due to the headbanging coasters ;-) Maybe in the meantime you have make a digital refreshment which of course can be bought via paypal :o) Regards Stefan
@davidjellis9 жыл бұрын
Stefan Wagels Hi Stefan, All I do is connect up my digital camcorder to a Video Cassette Player, play the video tape and record it via SCART lead...then transfer the digital recording to my computer and edit it in the usual way. I don't really have time to re-edit the whole USA videos digitally, I have only tried to grab sections for KZbin. I have made DVDs for many of the coaster trips I have done since 2003 (mostly with the ECC) so if you want any of them please let me know. Best wishes, David.
