I worked in Germany and can honestly say that living in the small villages and towns you get to see the real people, most towns have their own festivals like a miniature October fest, we were welcomed everywhere we went and I was well educated in how to adapt to the German way of working and living, spent a little time around boden see ( Lake Constance) and it was beautiful, went back a few times for holidays and thoroughly enjoyed the visit

Thank you for showing those of us who are not able to travel to all these individual places an overview, giving us a taste for more. The European towns are so charmingly built, with true care and decorations on the old buildings. Flower boxes are on balconies, in Italy, planters are found everywhere, up on walls, flowers peek around corners, lush plants greet us everywhere. Greece is a dream, Switzerland, everywhere one goes there is beauty! I really appreciate cities who build to harmonize with the previous style and surrounding nature. The newer, boxy looking buildings, made only for practical purposes, simply lack that charm. I also find it wonderful when the locals try to keep the height of the buildings and styles in harmony with the previous centuries' inhabitants. When putting up skyscrapers, why not erect them in another part of town rather than having them stick out like sore thumbs in between a beautiful skyline which was kept familiar for centuries? Anyway, thank you and good wishes to all travelers.

Thanks for a few new tips, at least in the beginning of the list. I would not really call Heidelberg or Bamberg small towns but maybe my references are different. Everyone knows about Rothenburg and while it is lovely, it also houses so many tourists in high season that it may be hard to walk the streets. Nearby Dinkelsbühl or Nördlingen are worth a visit. 😞

There is a BIG mistake at 24.40! Really embarrassing, and it has to set right soon! We don''t see Füssen, certainly not. It's the Römerberg Place with the famous Frankfurt town hall, called "Der Römer"! And Frankfurt am Main surely is not a "small city". It is a bad perspective, but in the background one can see a high building with an antenna at the roof, it's the headquarter of the Commerzbank, one of Germanys major banks. The tower has an altitude of 260 m and is one of the highest Frankfurt Skyscrapers.
