I remember around 2009-2010 when nobody was interested in watching or interviewing mma fighters,(I'm assuming because "websites" weren't offering much) but ariel did it because he wanted them to have a platform. Brendan has admitted he waits for Luke Thomas take on a situation and then repeats what he says on his program. He's not using journalist to figure out a story, he literally takes their opinion and uses it as his own. It's one thing to give your own opinion on a story reported by a journalist, it's another to be an ex MMA fighter and parrot the opinion of a journalist. It's one of the reasons I stopped watching "Below the Belt". I can get Luke Thomas opinion by watching "Morning Kombat".

He mentioned that he takes his opinion (I believe he mentioned it to him during his "Food Truck Diary" interview with Luke), but says it in a laughing, joking matter as if it isn't a big deal. The truth is, Brendan didn't want to do MMA talk, but he has to because that's the only thing he has to offer an audience. I remember early on while doing "Below the Belt" he would say "I'm not going to lie, I didn't watch these fights". There is a reason why views on all his platforms are way down compared to when he started. It's because people who have watched enough of his content know he's shit. Brendan Schaub ❌ Ariel Helwani ✅ You two have such great takes when it comes to fights, but not with journalism. You don't neccesarily have to be a fighter or a former referee to be knowledgeable on the sport. Take soccer for example, some of the most successful managers ever have been fairly mediocre players themselves. I think you need to get out of the mindset that you have to be a fighter to be knowledgeable on the sport. Ariel isn't a fighter, but I'd trust what he has to say far more than what Brendan has to say.

I love you guys to death; arguably my favorite MMA podcast, but this was rough to listen to. “..They all work for someone…sell their product to whatever organization” ..just like you all coincidentally work for showtime, and showed extreme bias to someone who couldn’t even put three words together in defense of himself without stuttering, or using Callen as a brick wall to bounce jokes off of to downplay his actions. After listening to Ariel’s side (absolute roast), Brendan’s response and behavior is absolutely shameless and pitiful. I love Schaub, but he needs to admit his wrongs, apologize for his actions, and move on with his career like every man should. You don’t have to be a MLB pitcher to understand the game of baseball and know how to throw a pitch. His (Schaub’s) fighting career doesn’t make him infinitely better at reporting on the sport of MMA or speaking to /interviewing fighters. There’s probably a better argument that it makes him worse. Love you guys and will continue to enjoy your show, but this was a hot take that was ultimately extinguished by Ariel’s response.

I think you severely over estimate schaubs presentation skills and ability to convey complex concepts. Ariel doesn’t do MMA analysis either and I’m not claiming he’s good at it, I’m claiming he’s good at putting a show together. Schaub is a guy who has had multiple objectively s*** takes on many upcoming fights in the past. It is actually arguable that Ariel has better takes on upcoming fights based on what we’ve heard them both say. Hell, Brian callen often has better takes than schaub on fights Does that mean that Ariel could sub schaub or throw better combos? No

Oh man you guys are so damn wrong about this beef and quite literally standing for bulliness, and BS. I like John and respect him A LOT as a legend in MMA. He was there from the start and still is, but he's damn wrong about Brendan. If there is one thing Brendan is very good at, it is at associating with the right people, that is definitely a quality he has and got him to this point so far. He is really good at networking and associates with the right folks just like he did with Joe, Theo, Callen, etc He is the perfect personification of fake it till you make it....except that he hasn't really made it yet. Of course he had a decent career in MMA, made it to the UFC, had a decent run at it but today other than his MMA career, It is all fake at this point, and he acts like it isn't. His comedy, his podcasting where he pays his guests, his relative "success" by associating with others and riping their own, being at the right place at the right time, it is all good but there is a way to deal with this if he chooses to take this route until he mades it and it simply to stay humble, enjoy the ride and avoid making unecessary enemies. He definitely did Ariel wrong by stating that everyone says he's hard to work with and hate him, I mean what the hell did you expect Ariel to do in this case ? He did rightfully stand for himself, like any of you would.
