Hi, Justins Music and fitness. The guitar has high output, ceramic magnet humbuckers so it is definitely designed with high gain in mind. That being said, rolling off the volume will clean things up for clean tones and it has coil tapping as well so it's a very versatile guitar all around. Thanks for your interest! Roll off the tone knob about half way and split the coils and you can get some really nice clean tones out of it. Coil splits really make sense on high output humbuckers since the split reduces the output to about where a single coil usually sits. Splitting a low output PAF just gets you a very low output pickup that sounds weak
