Schecter's new Sunset 6 Triad features a wild triple coil pickup! And this thing sounds as powerful as it looks. The best part is, the rest of the guitar is awesome as well. Extra jumbo stainless steel frets, locking tuners, a 5 piece maple and rosewood neck, ebony fretboard, and a body shape built for speed all come together to make this guitar flat out awesome.

it’s actually genius to have the third position essentially not be right under your picking hand since a real middle pickup gets in the way but the parallel wiring for the neck position combined with one of the triple coils I think only some ibanez guitars have that by default it’s pretty versatile
@dreammachine86
@dreammachine86 9 ай бұрын
I have an Ibanez AZ24047, which is a 7 string HSS. Have found that the middle pickup does get in my way a bit, really do have to try not to hit it. I really wanted a 7 string that had both a trem and single coils. It doesn't play as well as my Schecters though, lots of fret buzz and just not as tight feeling. The pickup switching is versatile though. The unique single coil combo on the AZ is actually series connection. It can connect the middle & neck together in series to simulate the sound of a neck humbucker. The normal middle & neck connection is parallel, just like a normal guitar with multiple single coils like a Strat. It's hard to remember the way everything is connected sometimes! IIRC the coils in a humbucker are in series, but multiple pickups are connected in parallel. The AZ has an option for all pickups together, so that would mean they would all be connected in parallel but with the bridge humbucker's coils in series first before being connected to the other pickups. I think it would be fun to get the 7 string Sunset Triad and mod it with a tremelo so I can replace my AZ but still have the same kind of features, in a tighter feeling guitar. Would of course be possible to add some more pickup switching options too, like that series connection for the 'middle' coil and neck, or even an option for both pickups together (4 coils of power!).

@@dreammachine86 Fret buzz usually happens with too straight of a truss rod adjustment and/or low action, but I don’t even use tools to measure; I find that using my picks which are on the thicker side to determine height works by at least doubling the string distance with my eye of this pick thickness for the bass and treble side if not having individual adjustment screws. I bought a Sterling JP70 to replace both of my guitars and will buy a second one or the JP60 when I come across a new drummer for my band, but that’s a lot what you’re looking for and it’s cheaper than your Ibanez or this Schecter at least before doing mods; just add a direct-mount strat-style pickup of high output which will allow for even lower height in the middle position than a ring or guard and switch out the stock neck humbucker for an H-90 style 7-string pickup. If you want a 5-blade, maybe replace the existing switch with a momentary button so there’s no hole to cover which I’m gonna do for the tone knob since I only use it 5-10; go with a medium output bridge as you might get a more balanced EQ and volume with the other two pickups since a lot of higher-output pickups don’t have articulate low-end.

The point I wanted to make is the 6-String models are way too narrow for my hands Nut Width 1.625" or 41.3 mm 🤔 I wish they made a 6-String with a chunky neck and I would add one to my collection.. Love the look of the Sun Valley in White but that will never happen with a nut width of 41.3 mm or with a Floyd Rose 🌹 Special

I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually used this idea in the sustainiac pickups so that way we can have a humbucker in the disengaged mode instead of just a single coil. It’d make for a big sustainiac, but I think it could work.

I love Schecter guitars. I just bought a couple used ones in the last couple weeks. I think I have 12 Schecters in my collection now. I gave a couple away or I would have more. I have seen this in their catalog this I think is the first review I have seen. IMO it sounds great, I need to read up on the specs. I would have liked it if they added two more settings combine 1&5, 2&5. for a complete range. Not sure how it would sound but I think it would be cool just to get a little more out of it. I wish Schecter listed some specs on the bridge pick up. I wonder how hot it might be. Schecter has never disappointed me I have bought all mine preowned for far less than the original price and they always come in better than most higher end guitars.

Great playing. Position 5, with just the back two coils sounds great, but position 4 just sounds muddy to me and not really worth a little extra output. It's a gimmick that a few other companies have tried in the past and it never took off. There's probably a reason for that.

The triple pickup seemed to add more lower mids. Personally, I like less lower mids and more bass. I actually use quadrails on most of my builds. Recently I ran a number of pickups through a spectrum analyzer and found the quads had a flatter response curve than most pickups. My current build has an interchangeable pickup system. I'd like to use it to compare a quadrail to a Nazgul. Out of curiousity, what's your favorite metal bridge pickup? I spent most of my life on EMGs. I've been thinking about a build with a quadrail at the bridge and a hotrail under the #5 and #6 strings, wired in parallel. Output wouldn't be a s high, so you'd want a bigger amp for the same volume, but the tone might be impressive. A bridge pickup and a 3 or 4 pole cigar box pickup under the bass strings is another possibility.

I've seen quad rail pickups on both eBay and Amazon TODAY. I found their appearance intriguing, but my reaction was otherwise a lot like my reaction to the introduction of Seymour Duncan's P-Rails pickups. How do their various possibilities sound? This is an important question, because you never know how some things will sound until you hear them or a recording of them. Like this Sawtooth 5-pickup guitar I lusted after for a few weeks earlier this year. Had 2 full-size humbuckers nestled between 3 Strat-style single coils. Looked like a good idea, but I'm glad I found a video clip of Michael Angelo Batio demonstrating that mofo. Even HE couldn't seem to get a good sound out of that freak machine. You wouldn't believe the speed with which I let THAT dream go!😆

Was about to post this example myself. Not sure if it was the 'Tri-Force' triple coil pickup that put people off though. This was more likely down to the "scoop" feature, that extended the lower cutaway to behind the base of the neck! This was intended to improve the upper fret (and presumably just to be something new and different) but players were concerned as to tuning stability, fragility, whether sustain would be effected and so forth.

The triple humbucker has been done before Fender had one in a Marauder I think it was called the atomicbucker? I could be wrong but I know Fender had it in the Marauder. That guitar almost looks like an Ibanez except for the headstock It has a very modern look and I think it's priced about right. And as far as their highest end production guitars they get pretty close to 2,000 right up to about 1899 I think for the Keith marrow signature seven string. So they're not that cheap but most of their guitars that are sub 1400 are killer guitars I've owned a few in my day and I want to get the purple apocalypse E1 Explorer type guitar You have a purple one but not the apocalypse version! I almost think of the triple humbucker as a regular humbucker with an added single coil? But that's just me I'd like to try one in person. 3 coils in series is a bad idea. I wired a Strat in w all 3 in series. Actually not too bad for heavy distortion , but I put my phone playing music over each pickup. The middle pickup in the chain was muddy . Makes sense ; it has to go thru another pickup to both hot and ground. W 4 pickups in series , its worse . 2 in parallel , in series, w the other 2 in parallel, is the way to go. Then everything electric has the same value as a single coil when you do the math. I'm not saying that 3 in series can't sound good, just 4 in series / parallel will sound better.

What about the hum? Surely a third coil would add hum.

So you said 27” small length. Schecter has this listed as 25.5 just a heads up so people that doesn’t want extended scale length aren’t pushed away from it.

Looks like the dimensions on the neck are almost identical to an Ibanez Wizard III. Too bad they dont have an Evertune or a trem model of it.

I assume it needs the longer scale to prevent mud ;-)

With the exception of P 90s, I have no use for a single coil in the neck position.

I bought an Ibanez IC210 (Iceman) with a triple coil pickup in 1978. They didn't make many of them, and none since 1979. I still have the guitar but I don't play it anymore. It's pretty rare today. Steve Miller used the same model in 1978.

This concept isn’t new. I remember Alverez having a triple pickup thing in the 90’s as well. I don’t think the sound of these things are exactly my thing. It may be too hot. I like the warm to hot type of sound.

That's pretty cool. 27" I have a Schecter 7 with 26.5" scale. So a 6 String with 27" .. should be Monster killer 🤘🖤
