scheel - mann USA seat installation in Brutus our M1079

We needed orthopedic driving seats for Brutus our M1079 as we have some long distance trips lined up for our truck and the stock seats are very uncomfortable. We searched high and low and found scheel-mann USA seats. They are very high quality and fit us perfect. In this video I show how I made some brackets out of some simple metal strips, install was quick and easy. I still have to take out the brackets one more time and get them powder coated and finished up, but you get the idea. I am super jealous of the seats! Lord knows the stock seats are merciless... and I thank God I don't normally have to sit in them for all that long. However, it would sure be nice to ride in comfort when I do. Completely cool project and game changer. Very nicely presented.

Can you show a video of the cab interior and explain all the rest of the upgrades/options and modifications you have done plus tell of any future options or upgrades that are in the works, Please. Would be nice to see the bottom of the seat (the mounting again) post-weld, etc. But the bar idea to mount is genious. Excellent work! Any chance you might share where you sourced the seats from and the model?

You'll have to do a comparison review between the Traveler and the Touring models, pricing, and comfort now that you have Touring in Brutus but the Traveler in the Expedition (if you still have it?).

How did these seats compare to the air ride seats in the Accella you test drove? Do you ever feel that you want air ride on Brutus?

Thats a great question, neither one of us liked the seats in the Acela at all, but that being said the scheel-mann seats are in a entirely different league. They are truly comfortable, we put them to the test on our recent 5000 mile trip, we spent several 12 hour days in them without any discomfort at all. Now getting to the air ride question, we use Brutus off road often, and when we drive on slow bumpy/technical trails neither one of us like the air ride seats as they bounce up and down so much it is impossible to modulate the throttle smoothly, so in conclusion if you want to be comfortable and not be distracted while driving by uncomfortable seats we highly recommend the scheel-mann seats. I bet if you wanted air ride scheel-mann seats could be adapted to work.

If I have a 1988 g wagon with a stock, no electric seat in it, will I still be able to install the heated seat?

How much room is there on these from the back of your front seats to the back wall of the cab.

Good question, they are 19" at the base & 15" at the top with the seat in a comfortable driving position for a 5'8" person

Adventure Driven thanks for the quick reply. We have been looking at picking up an m1079 ourselves but have 2 little ones and was curious if a side ways jump seat would fit there so we could have them sit there.

I think a couple of jump seats would work well on the sides or even a couple in the center facing forward.

Adventure Driven hmm I didn't think about placing 2 facing forward in the center. I forget how wide these are. That may be good also. I'm going to see if my local national guard unit will let me take a close look at thiers too. Maybe they will let me put a car seat in there to get a good idea too.

It's hard to tell in the pic, as you don't show the center of the dash, but did you add, or has this LMTV been upgraded to add the air conditioner? If not, you might consider that if you haven't already.

I see, periodically, people selling the add-on A/C units for these trucks. The other thing is the two boxes that extend out from the 'camper' section over the top of the cab. You can get a small window-type A/C unit to put in one side, so that you don't have to take up floor space in the camper with a portable A/C unit. The other box might be large enough to house a portable gas generator, like the Honda 2000i. Those boxes look really handy for that sort of stuff.
