Ik vraag me waar de grens ligt tussen de legendarische Nederlandse directheid en de onbeleefdheid, tactloosheid, onbehoorlijkheid of het gebrek aan empathie? Is mijn kleinkind direct of onbeleefd als hij hard lacht wanneer ik Nederlands probeer te praten? Of wanneer ik het Hongaarse lievelingsgerecht van mijn dochter kook en hij zegt: “dat is vies” en hij smaakt het ook niet? Is Martin dus nou direct of tactloos geweest?

Scheidbare werkwoorden en voornaamwoordelijke bijwoorden (die je ook soms moet splitsen en op juiste plekken in een zin plaatsen) zijn de moeilijkste voor mij! In ieder geval moeilijker dan Nederlandse directheid. :)

I know that Dutch people say what they think and I agree to the statement "Dutch are direct" but this was just rude of Martin, really. You can just say "I don't like your dress. I think you should get a better dress" why to compare it to a tent? :D Or is just Martin's weeeird sense of humor? However, I can imagine my boyfriend saying something similar if we are shopping for clothes together :D

Spanish aren't so direct, but I prefer Dutch people because they say it directly to the other person. Spanish usually laught at others and criticize with their friends when the person who is mentioned isn't there. I find it disgusting. I'm not going to get angry if someone tells me what they think. I would just say: OK, we have different tastes but I still like the dress and I'll keep wearing what I like because it's my style and my personality. That's all. 😉
