I am so sorry that happened to you, your right it's not his fault, someone should have told you sooner about your dad's problem and then you would have understood him better and know, you know now that you know what he has you can study his disorder and find find ways to help him and understand what to do when it happens, thats what I would do if it was me in that situation, the next time you see your dad find a puzzle or a game you both can play together so you will have something you like to do together and help him not focus on his disorder.

People really need to think about the person suffering from the illness too. The person dealing with psychosis is suffering far more than anyone around them, it's a terrifying experience and, for someone with schizophrenia, is something which is always lurking, something which will always be there, always ready to pounce out of nowhere. While others around them might be frightened, the person dealing with it is more afraid than you can ever imagine.

My wife has schitzophrenia and let me assure you, it is a collective sickness, just like you talked about, you and your mom get paranoid about having it. I am kind of cool with it, but in our case the government has actually followed us and try to destroy our lives, lol, it's ironic that because my wife is scared that people conspire behind our backs, people respond by conspiring behind our backs. Fear is the real enemy though. Don't fear someone because they are afraid, love is the answer and defeating fear inside your heart is the battle. Good luck

My mom it's schizophrenic too, many times she gave up her medication and ended up really bad, till the point where she wouldn't eat anymore. And now, we might as well say goodbye to her, she takes an injection to control her disease, but she barely does anything at all, she leaves the house dirty, and sleeps more and more, schizophrenia is a degenerative disease and she begins to degenerate as well. I kinda knew this day would come, but still, it still takes you by surprise the day she goes to sleep and never wake up.

My dad also have schizophrenia.. He often gets angry with very little things, and insults and beats my mom for very silly reasons.. He also imagine things that we never even thought of once in our mind.. Yesterday, He beat me a lot for no absolute reason, thank Allah he didn't find any plastic stick or something more dangerous, He beat me with a wood stick and when it broke, he slapped me a lot in my face with a lot of pressure and kicked me in my legs.. He locked the door beating me inside while my mom was praying for help and pleading not to beat me and was reciting suras.. I am 16 years old and have been facing these type of situations a lot from my childhood and have also witnessed a lot of violence towards my mom.. I can't even imagine how my mom tolerated him for last 20 years, She is mashallah very patient.. Taking medications helps him to remain normal though it doesn't always help, He becomes furious sometimes.. Yesterday, my mom shared me how she endured him and there is no better places than staying with my father, cuz the world is never too helpful or kind.. I hope He gets well soon and we will always be able to be by his side.. Please pray for the peace in my family..
