@@jackwilliamatkins5602 what does this have to do with schizophrenia?

I struggle with depression and anxiety and have gone through a bunch of trauma. I have c-ptsd for sure. A psychologist I was listening to said “trauma teaches us false lessons about how reality works.” I experience a tug-of-war within myself between the false beliefs trauma left me with and the new healthy beliefs I am trying to install in their place. I just discovered your channel today so maybe I have not come across it yet but I am very interested to hear your thoughts on how trauma and schizophrenia intersect. If someone had a good childhood and then got schizophrenia in late teens, would that positive environment growing up influence the types of delusions they would have? Or maybe schizophrenia is actually brought on by trauma in some way? Thoughts? Curious what you think.

First of all, I'm sorry you had to endure something that left such an imprint on your mind. This thing called life can be rough. But you're standing and fighting that battle, so that's something. Now, to your question, trauma is only one avenue by which schizophrenia can be triggered. Trauma certainly can and would affect the types of delsuions one would experience with schizophrenia because schizophrenia users your knowledge and experiences to grab your attention with emotional responses. A history of trauma is a perfect vehicle for schizophrenia to wreak havoc on a mind because there's plenty of pain to draw from. Now, if the person has no real trauma in their history for schizophrenia to pull from, such as myself, then schizophrenia will create traumatic experiences through falsehoods presented through our perceptions of family, friends, etc. For example, I thought my family and friends wanted to sacrifice me to the devil. This was real as anything else. Imagine me believing my own mom poisoning me to kill me for the devil she served? And I had to live with these same people, not knowing when my eyes would close for the last time because of them. It came to a point where I was too afraid to even sleep. I went from a mom who was tough but loved me, to a mom who hated me and only pretended there was love. But that was my family, my friends, strangers. Who do I turn to? I was all alone, and in a hell I couldn't seem to escape, but only kept sinking deeper and deeper into it. There are also some not so frightening experiences, or their can be, but it's built into the nightmare world to reinforce it. For example, some people just hear a voice narrating their lives. This seems harmless, yet it’s anything but. That voice calls for attention, and the attention or passive resistance (a resistance with no direction) keeps the connection of the mind to the symptoms, meaning the horror show has only taken a break but will be back. This narration is just an open door for other things to enter through. Also, the voices can be more positive depending on culture or environment within certain cultures. They say schizophrenia is not all dark in less developed nations. But even so, that's besides the point. The point is that people are not rulers of their senses. They're still hijacked, and the people still at the whim of the hijackers. It's my mind, I'm to rule it. If it's ruled by something else, then I'm no longer master of my house, but a prisoner. Now, other people will definitely disagree with me on some of this, but that's how I see it. It's also why I was able to recover. I took back what was mine. It's a different mindset over here.
