I'm doing my own shower. I used go board for walls and concrete board as subfloor. I'm using the kerdi pan with ditra heat. I'm using the Flo FX drain too. Wish me luck.

The schluter products look really nice and easy to work with. I always use the old fashion fiberglass shower pan but after watching this video I’m thinking about trying it out. I’m going to be building a few showers soon and I might try it out. Thanks for the awesome video BRT!

It’s kind of hard to beat the speed of a fiberglass pan 😆 Cheaper ultimately too. My next two jobs include them too. Just wasn’t in the budget for tile. Thanks Josh

I stopped using Kerdi band because it takes the corners out of square and just adds unnecessary work to remedy. Now I use the liquid membrane and the thin, fiber mesh that comes with it to seal all corners. I apply 3 thin coats of liquid membrane according to the installation instructions. I'm curious about the toilet flange height; is it sitting below the unfinished floor level that is still gonna have thin set and tile installed making the flange even lower relative to the finished tile floor? If so, is that how you normally rough-in support/water containment for a new toilet?

Hey BRT, was curious how do you go about the corners or in general where various layers overlap? Thinset, kerdiband, thinset and kerdi corner … all that must add up in thickness. Do you just go easy on thinset later when tiling in that very spot or is my worry unreasonable? Great quick video. Thanks for sharing. 👊
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s one downside to membrane applications like Schluter….you’ll get build up no matter what. Just have to try to keep as flat as possible and float the thinset a little bit when setting tile. Most of the time the first row of tiles will need scribe cut slightly to overcome the slight pitch in corners 👍

Thank you for this video I've done shower stalls with this product before. And I like watching someone else do an install just to get caught up on new products and technique. Thank you very much.

looks great steve. Can you tile right on that go board? How do u like it compared to schluter board? Also where can we get one of those killer shirts'>?
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yep 👍 can tile right after sealant sets (about an hour) it’s way more affordable than Schluter and a little more rigid too. Maybe I’ll start selling merch, 😆 I keep changing the design around. But these ones are my favorite thus far
@jbitile82412 жыл бұрын
On the flofx drains do they only have one design as far as the choke or brass drain. And if they have different designs or metals where to find them. On there website just has the choke and brass color

I’m not sure of all the different options…did you go to their main site flofx.com/

Do you always use backerboard with the felt membrane ?
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Not always. Go board is just the most affordable type of foam board 👍

Have you used the FloFX drain with goboard wedge shower system? Trying to determine if I go with this preslope pan or Goboard. Thanks
@fredrezfield16296 ай бұрын
so at this point or up to this point you have no taper or slope with the area and plywood? it's just that your shower area is lower than the rest of the bathroom floor yeah? the shcluter system has the perfect slope built in to it ?

The Flofx also has recessed screw holes in the rim so that you can screw it to the floor if installing before the plumber gets to the job. That way when drain pipe is installed later, it eliminates the chance of the drain popping loose when the pipe is forced on the drain. Flofx also does not have the deep recess around the drain collar like schluter does, which is a big help when fitting small tile, like mosaics, around the drain itself.

dont you need to be using an abs to pvc glue? not a pvc glue? is the flo fx drain pvc or abs?

Just curious how you got the rock board 1/4” higher then the foam pan? Did you Recess the subfloor? Seems like all the schluter pans are 1 1/8” thick at their edge. Maybe I’m missing something?
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, recessed 3/4” and even with joists. Schluters smaller pans are 1” think.

Are the drains always 2"? I need 1.5". That's my plumbing size right through.

Unfortunately yes, every shower comes with 2” I didn’t say this but you could use a reducer 👍 www.homedepot.com/p/NIBCO-2-in-x-1-1-2-in-PVC-DWV-Flush-Bushing-C48012FHD2112/100345144

I’m fixing to tile my first shower with kerdi membrane. Do you have a preference on your backer board? I’ve seen that you have used anything from drywall to foam board that is already waterproof. Trying to do this build on a budget but still have a long lasting product.
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Preference would be Wedi for many reasons….but it’s the most expensive. Go board I use more than anything for its ease of use and speed. If your main focus is budget, then drywall with kerdi membrane is the cheapest way to go. Just messy to install and be sure to use an 1/8” x1/8” trowel and keep thinset to its wettest ratio. Mixing systems voids warranties from manufactures….but honestly….they rarely protect you anyways and if it’s installed right you won’t have a claim anyways 👍
