There's a notch in your wheel that called a keyway the key is a small rectangular metal bar called a key. Then there should be a shaft nut or pin. Hope you found them👍

Cape Fear lives up to its name. Hard to negotiate on a slow boat but you proved your seamanship. Timing is everything. Enjoyable trip video with all the ups and downs. Lucky for all the crew grabbing a dock for the night on a misfit stealing your mooring. Blessing in disguise.

I jumped ahead to the end of their loop, and his handling of the boat is so smooth and confident as compared to this video. Fast forward 2 years and he just gives occasional nudges to the wheel vs. the rapid spinning we see a lot of here.

How wild that your wheel fell off! 😱 That pizza looked so good and just so you know, Adam narrates for Ollie every time Ollie is on the screen in his made up Ollie voice and it’s so cute haha. I’ll make him do it for you in real life soon 😂

It was super refreshing! Traveling on the intracoastal, we are always a stones throw from the coast, but don’t often get to enjoy a beach. It was nice!

Your gonna have some fun near the mouth of the Chesapeake and Delaware bays. It can get pretty sporty in those areas in particular if the wind and tide don’t play nice….

We've definitely heard ALOT about planning for Cape May and the C&D Canal... In real time we've made it through the Chesapeake entrance and it was quite a bit better than Cape Fear - we did a better job planning for sure.

@@SchoandJo we started our loop in a 2655 Bayliner, from Lake Pepin on the Miss in MN traveling around key west and up to Titusville where we had to stop for health issues in 2013. We hauled the boat home, healed up purchased a 1981 Mainship 34 trawler in Palm Coast FL and started again in Titusville only to finish the loop once back at the Miss. The next fall, in 2014 we headed back to FL finishing the loop with that boat when we arrived back in Titusville with her. We kept and annual slip there using the vessel to do the St John’s River, the Abacos and the East coast of Fl. In 2019 we started N again only to sell the 34, named Ariverderci, while on the Chesapeake and purchased our current vessel, a 390 Mainship, off a completing Looper, which we drove back to FL. That fall. Last Spring we brought her up to Demopolis where she sits. We boarded again in Oct, 2021 to get ready for winter cruising, and drove home for the holidays. We fly back 1-3-22 getting ready to head down to Mobile then FL. We have No agenda, pun intended, is then headed to Marathon this winter and just maybe finishing the Loop again starting next spring. Our blog is RossmansLoop, face book is under James Rossman as well as KZbin which has some videos of lots of the trips. Keep up the great work. It is inspirational. Oh ya we did captain boats between the loop and now as well but have let our license lapse. Hope to see you some where on the water. No Agenda. Jim and Patrice Rossman

Losing the wheel could have been a scene in something like Capt Ron. Good recovery though, you adapted and overcame with a decent landing at the pier. Be Safe.

Great video, could of been worse losing the wheel in a tight spot when you had no time.. good recovery.. @ 15:17 when you flaking the dock line.. try stretching it out so there is no twist, walk the bitter end back to the cleat area and then just lay it down and turn it clockwise letting it get to a bigger and bigger circle and it will lay down nice and flat. really easy to do and looks super sharp.

You might want to invest in an autopilot at some point. It would take some of the pressure off on long hauls.

Definitely top on our list of “nice to haves” - we have all the hardware installed just a a faulty display / controller. Once we figure out some of the top fixes I’ll do some research. I believe our system is Raytheon, have any suggestions?

The helm is the station where the boat is steered. The wheel is what is used to turn the rudders/steer the boat.

I just started watching... but I guess you don't have a good autopilot? It makes a huge difference! I almost never touch the wheel (except docking) but steer by pushing the buttons on the autopilot to dodge boats or lobster pots.
@SchoandJo

Hey Chris - we have an autopilot system but the control panel is busted… we’ve been back and forth on purchasing and installing a new control panel. It definitely seems like it would help a ton!

@@SchoandJo It's expensive but I'm installing a Raymarine Axiom and an Evolution autopilot. It's supposed to self learn your boats characteristics the more more you use it.

... just my opinion: I've been watching a while now... you are "oversteering" your boat, trying to keep it straight when waves are affecting your course. When you have a following sea: the wave picks up the stern and pushes it one way, then the boat swings the stern back and you carry on... don't try to steer the wave: let it move your stern, then your bow and then settle in... currents are different as you get "eddies" that affect tracking. If you run center-channel: you have space to wander in eddies and if nothing else: can actually stop the boat to let someone pass... just my opinion is all. Boats never steer straight unless overcoming ALL outside forces and thus why "new boaters with boats run on plane and wake you"... they are unfamiliar... let the boat settle into it's groove based on conditions. It's not a car: a car is stuck to a road and a boat floats on moving surface. Don't "fight it with the wheel;" go with the movement... You guys are doing great and having things to learn every day... challenging, invigorating, nerve-wracking yes but memories that will live with you both forever. Cheers!

This message is about a older video, your problems with the outboard motor is more than likely a bunch of crap in the carb you have two jets in the carb one is the idle jet and the other is the main jet, the idle jet get clogged real easy the holes the fuel go through need to be perfectly clean, a clogged up carb will give you hard starts, rough idles and poor performance at high rpm
@SchoandJo
@SchoandJo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the diagnosis Michael! We had a ton of propane leaks in this outboard so I'm not sure if there was something we could have done without rebuilding the fuel lines... Since the company is out of business we are SOL! Fortunately we have a new dinghy engine now and will be showing it in a video coming out in a couple weeks 👍
