I'm from Maryland and started watching you video's about a month ago! I have had a Silverton 34c for 8 years now. I'm currently restoring it on the hard but have hopes of getting it in the water again and possibly doing the loop! You both are an inspiration, even too experienced boaters like me. We love watching your journey. I've lived in Maryland my whole life. My family loves the water and is very blessed to be able to navigate and enjoy the Chesapeake. The past year has been hard to stay diligent in working on the boat. But watching your videos, it helps restore the love for boating and travels. Thank you, Jenn and Elliott, for being an inspiration ❤️ ps I'm pretty sure that was a northern sneakhead fish that you had seen.. possibly a bowfin, most likely a sneak, though!

Came across your channel searching for Onancock and am loving it. You all put a smile on my face. Miss crossing the bay. Raised on Rock Creek off the Patapsco. Parents currently live in Solomons. In the cycling world the Oxford-Belview ferry ride is HUGE! 33 mile ride, Easton-Oxford/Belview-St Michaels back to Easton. When you're back in the Chesapeake be sure to visit Rock Hall, Md. Deep water, nice little harbor, easy in and out, right on the bay, public docking, everything within walking distance. Have fun, stay safe!

My home sailing area when / where I grew up The building where the Creamery is at that period had just started the transition from a commercial crab 🦀 distribution to include (my) worlds best cheeseburgers! Finally! A looper crew doing the Chesapeake bay right. I hate when they blow right through the bay leaving all of the wonders it holds in their wake. Fairlee creek is a nice anchorage you could hit right before entering the C&D canal. Friday and Saturday they typically have live music at Jellyfish Joel’s tiki bar. It can get a little rowdy. If you like a more quiet setting head up the creek a little.

After the initial pump out, we usually use the freshwater hose to fill the black holding tank through the pump out port. Then we do a second pump out to accomplish what you did with the flushing of the head (cleaning the tank a bit).
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
Nice, I like this approach a bit more - less use on the head pumps! Will try it next time we can 😁

so when you are first to an anchorage, or close to it. Is there any etiquette besides dont anchor in the channel?? Are you supposed to try and leave room for others? Stay to one side? Or is it just first come first serve... Anchor where you like??
@woodside632 жыл бұрын
Lots of opinions and interpretation on this; all depends if you wish to be considerate of others if it gets crowded. Anchoring right in the middle of a small harbor may result in the commercial fishermen all giving you wakes at 4:30AM, as they head out. Many cruisers will try to anchor in a quiet corner.
@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
There is definitely etiquette to anchoring. You actually are not allowed to anchor in the channel, so that is a given. The first boat determines the anchorage and what you should do is use the minimum scope required. Whether thats 10:1 or 3:1, you should use that. If a boat is already in the anchorage you should ask them or anchor far enough away to not worry about swinging in to each other. In this anchorage, it was only big enough for one boat comfortably, if a boat was already there we would have gone some where else. There is a lot too it!

@SchoandJo2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure the deepest draft, but if you want to do the Trent Severn i wouldn't have a draft any more than 4.5 ft. Even so, we are pretty happy at 3.5 ft and are jealous of some of the smaller boats with 2-3 ft drafts. Cheers.

yeah Solomons isnt a very friendly place just greedy people that are scared someone is going to invade their little precious tourist trap. They would literally set up traps for people cruising the island and try to nail them for drinking and driving I understand that its illegal to drink and drive but they would pull over anyone for no reason. I had a friend that was a bouncer at the tiki bar and they would pull him over everynight until he finally filed a complaint. I got myself in trouble when I was younger and my buddy got pulled over and i started running my mouth...lol...that didnt turn out so well..but yeah I rarely go there anymore
