At some point in high school, I legit, no joke, one day decided that I'd muster up the courage and walk home after school for the first time in my life and realized how much... better, it was. It wasn't JUST the fact that walking half an hour home (despite all the stuff in your backpack) wasn't all that bad; you could choose to just go straight home, you could stop by some store and shop or eye-shop and entertain yourself to your heart's content, reflect on your day or your future, etc. It's so much more peaceful than having to ride the bus home every single day. It doesn't help that everything you mentioned in this video is basically true. Bus rides were literally "you either fit in with these annoying gossiping kids or you don't."

Don't forget the sexual harassment aspect. I had a girl always choose to sit by me, despite the abundance of free space. Since we had no handicapped people on our route, I sat in the single handicap seat to avoid her. Her response was to sit on my lap for 45 minutes instead of next to me. I was in middle school and she was in high school.

The "luxurious ass bus", or charter bus, review is pretty accurate. I had to ride on one for a total of 11 hours one day, and I don't think I would have survived that long on a normal school bus. Problem was, I was right in front of the cheerleaders the entire ride (don't ask, it's probably not what you think), so we had a bit of the plebian normal school bus element in there, but for being with a bunch of vegetables pretending to be high schoolers, it wasn't all that bad. I'm just glad I never had to use the bus to get to and from school, sounds like ass

As someone who always had and has to take the bus to school, I can confirm this is 100% true. It is very hard to find where your bus is at the end of the day, it’s even harder when you can’t even see the bus number through the tinted windows from far away. You have to memorize the black numbers on the yellow side of the bus, but of course substitute busses will make that useless. The school put a sign on my bus so that way it is easier to spot from afar, when the bus driver remembers to put it up it is very useful! Some kids on the bus are very loud, that’s why sitting in the front is best, however if you are one of the last people on the bus you have no choice but to sit on the back of the bus because the bus is so crowded. If you have the option to drive to school, it is probably best that you do. Bus drivers are leaving left and right and the bus drivers that remain have to drive very crowded busses. I think I was asked if I wanted to drive one of the busses once, I said no. You know they are getting desperate when they ask a STUDENT who is also almost blind if they want to apply to drive a bus.

for my school they write down the bus numbers that are there and not there. they even put arrows on where to go to find your bus so for me it's far easier than what's described in the video. also i'm never last because i'm built different

my school announces late buses/buses that won’t be there on the intercom during dismissal announcements, and they put find my route etc. on the website as well as the route number and bus number on the buses. Also they drop us off at our houses and picks us up at our houses

Hello, current school bus driver here. The reason you had a different bus driver some days is really because someone called off, which happens A LOT. The heaters under some of the seats have no temperature control, it is either on or off, and they get pretty hot. The kids in the back of the bus thing happens everywhere and yeah, eventually the bus driver just gives up. For me, I have written up so many kids that the school just ignores my write ups, the kids even laugh about it. So really I just make sure nobody is killing anyone else in the back and generally they do what they want. The reason busses aren't always in the same place at the end of the day is because either some driver called off and they are "doubling up a route" or there were mechanical issues, which happens a lot also. They are not supposed to release the busses from the school until someone has verified that all students made it to the bus and there isn't anyone walking around the lot, sounds like someone didn't do the job correctly. You should have found a staff member and let them know. Hope I helped you understand some of the issues, great video by the way :)

Ignoring write ups is the part that kills me. I've written one boy up more than 20 times since I took over my route in October. He should be off my bus by now, but they don't care. I have an 81 passenger bus and I had almost 90 kids shoved on at once. It's a fight to get any support.

@@diamondly6250 Times on our trip sheet are often wrong, obviously school should release at the same time every day unless there is a planned early dismissal. The driver should have known what time the schools release and stuck to that, because that has priority over the printed schedule. Sounds like he was upset that the times were wrong and wanted to "send a message" to the management. There are drivers like that, wrong way to go about it IMO.

As someone that took the bus through all 12 grades let me tell you it’s was hell. When I was 6 to 10 I took the buss with my older sister we went to the same school so through grades 1 to 6 I had to sit with my sister and deal with a buss full of older kids and I constantly got picked on so did my sister and I was too young to understand but my sister was a hell of a sister for standing up for me everyday. Once I got to grades 7 and 8 my sister moved on to another school and I was stuck taking g the buss by myself I was 13 now so I didn’t need someone to go with me anymore. This is when I really started seeing the craziness myself. The trouble makers would always sit at the back and would rush the buss to be the first to get there they would cut the seats smoke pot would never sit down yell at the buss driver and sometimes be escorted off the buss by police. These kids thought they were cool and I just cringed watching this. The middle of the buss sat the normal people the ones that just kept too themselves and the front sat the nerds the buss drivers friends. I guess nerd being a little harsh but they kinda were. During high school it was even worse the setup was the same back had the trouble makers middle was normal people front somewhat nerds but now people where full on making out in the back so bad the driver had to yell no sex on the buss. There were even fights where someone pulled a knife out scaring a bunch of people. If you can avoid the buss please do it’s a s**t show.

Those were the years when we'd pass by this house that had this statue that terrified me and gave me constant nightmares. I am on a School Bus, I sat at the back of the bus, I do agree that there are students that act like total clowns. One person was even passing down papers which every page had one pic of p**n on it, and one person in seat 23 slit the seat with a knife, YES with a KNIFE. I started sitting in the middle of the bus because there was just so much horrible stuff back there, I couldn't comprehend what everything went on while I was back there. EDIT as of 2/20/23: The back of the bus has started to chill down quite a bit over the past few months, ever since those kids got kicked out of the bus due to shenanigans, it's been calmer back there and I can finally sit back there again not having to worry about those incidents that have happened. I am a school bus driver. Middle schoolers are savages Elementary kids are animals High school is ready to check out, and so are we. But, if you have to be up by 6, we've been up since 4:30 doing our bus inspection in 15 degree Fahrenheit weather, trying to heat it so y'all don't freeze. If we are lucky, we get to keep the same bus as the day before, but this week alone 3 busses broke down on me, so if YOU froze, WE FROZE!! I promise you, this job is not a job you just go into, it takes a certain person with a LOT of patience to be able to do it and do it well... What I'm saying is, please cut us some slack... some of us have to endure 150-200 students a day, and that's a lot of kids for one adult to handle while driving a giant killing machine, especially in bad weather. But also, I was a kid who once rode the bus... I feel this in my soul x.x

I had to take the bus every day until I graduated. Although my morning bus was chill since it’s 630 and everyone on it was tired, my afternoon bus was a different story. On my bus, the older you were, the further back you sat in the bus, and since the middle school and high school used the same busses, you had the 6th graders in the front and the seniors in the back. And because my bus was in charge of dropping kids off in a neighborhood where a lot of kids live, sometimes my bus would be carrying more kids than it could carry. Usually, most of the kids would have sports or clubs, so usually there’ll only be two kids per seat. However, if there’s a storm or early dismissal, the bus is so crowded that there are three kids per seat, and there are even kids sitting in the aisle. I’m surprised the school was fine with that.

I remember taking the school bus every day in elementary school. It was a 30ish min journey in the late 2000s so most of us did not have phones. I remember one day after school someone whipped out an HTC Sidekick with Angry Birds and all of us in the back of the bus were literally in awe. Smell and holes in the seat is so accurate. We had the late 90s/early 2000s International branded busses and those things were stupid loud, idling or moving. I remember we all yelled just to hear one another.

Me and my bus driver love the international buses he started in a 2000 amtran flatnose he loved and still does love every singe international he drove gen spare bus he has no negative feedback on them except for occasional sayings “not the fastest for an international” or “the flatnoses were hot oven buses” they are way better and more reliable than the 2016 blue bird I ride sure he DT engines are loud but they are truly amazing buses to drive when the quieter maxxforce 7 engines are good ones my bus driver drove a 2010 built one and I rode the 2010 built maxxforce 7 let me tell you that thing was SMOOTH riding my bus driver loved it so much too…. My bus driver in his 16 years of service has only experienced 3 seat rips in a bus EVER my bus driver is an amazing chill guy he dosent mess around with no one and is truly nice he isn’t mean at all

This video is SO accurate to me, especially finding my own bus in the afternoon, like there are like 50 different buses in the parking lot, and my dumbass couldn't find it because I couldn't remember my bus number, and all the buses left and I stayed at the school porch. As a bus driver, my bus is relatively quiet, and I keep it that way. But trips can suck, not my students so they aren't trained properly, and teachers/parents don't care enough to get the kids to quiet down. Principals often just take their cars instead. Three to a seat is fine though, just lean on the person across from you.

Here's my bus situation: 7:30: bus comes to pick me up. People are pretty chill, pretty uneventful. There's this one annoying girl that sits in front of me, she's just normally like that. 3:00: Get back on the bus to head home. I'm the last one off, so I'm always in for the whole ride. Sometimes, it's just a little loud and rather chill. Other times, there's pencils and water bottles being thrown around with the mix of bleach, perfume, and nicotine in the air which screws up my whole body for the rest of the night

@@themenacingpenguin.7152 It's kind of complex how the route is put together, but it usually is about a 50 minute ride. Thankfully it's only about 10 minutes in the morning. I know that other routes in my district can take around 80 minutes, even longer with non favorable weather

Man, I had one field trip where we went to an air national guard base and on the way back we were all sat in the bus and we pulled off to the side of the road, the teacher stood up looking pissed and apparently someone took 2 20mm rounds and we had to sit there for like 10 minutes until someone just rolled them down the aisle. The bus ride was my favorite part of the day from late middle school through my junior year (I started driving myself in my senior year). I simply sat in the very back seat, folded my legs across it, and went to sleep. On the days I didn't do that, I'd have the aforementioned shenanigans stated in the video, deep convos, memes, movie references, condoms, therapy sessions, the whole shebang. You just had to be in the right mood for a school bus ride. Also it probably helped that I was a morning person.

This reminds me of the time my bud almost flipped on it’s side. We got this super old guy bus driver, and there was this huge pile of snow. We turn the corner where the snow is at, and the bus literally goes halfway up the snow pile and my backpack fell out of the seat because of how tilted the bus was. Then it slammed down with a crash, and we were off on our way home, almost dead not even off school property.

My middle school would make us do swimming every week, and since there was only like 50-ish students they got us all in one bus. On the way there I sat at the back, where most of the older kids usually are (I was in 7th grade). All I heard was people trying to sing but forgetting the lyrics not even halfway through, kids moaning, the whole thing. The worst part were the changing rooms.. did I say rooms? I meant room. They got all the boys in one and the girls in the other, I kid you not, there was 1st grade kids all the way up to 8th in one room. Now, the younger kids didn't give no fucks, they stripped and got changed. But any child from 4th grade and up were screaming immature shit like "WhAt'S uNdEr ThAt ToWeL" and shit like that. The swimming was all over good... Okay it was shit. They let people in anyways even though our swimming "lessons" took up the whole small pool, and 3 quarters of the larger pool. One week I came home sick, my head felt heavy and I had a splitting headache. On the way back one time, I sat in the front with my 1st grade sister. I kid you not, I nearly fell asleep, I could barely hear anyone in the back. When we got back, It was like a half day.
