As a kid who grew up in the 2000’s with learning disabilities, I had a really, really hard time learning my tables. Then, my mom put in her old Schoolhouse Rock tapes to the VCR and I never had trouble again. Even the internet couldn’t help me, but the power of old fashioned music and colorful art did. God bless this man and everyone else at ABC who helped my parents, me, and eventually, my kids some time in the future.

Bob Dorough was a sweet man. I recall hearing the 2x and 3x demos in third grade and then the privilege of being invited to sing on 4x tables. I have always remembered his sweetness. It has been wonderful to find him again on the Internet and to watch him. I’m flooded with memories of being a boy and growing up.

When I was a Freshman in High School, I got to meet him. My choir was at a jazz festival, so we sang a song he wrote called, "I'm Hip." I played the jazz bass part that day. But our choir director found him and had us perform it for him. He seemed very happy. But later that day, we saw him perform some of his schoolhouse rock songs, along with some other jazz tunes. But just his enthusiasm. He's so happy with what he's created and he just wanted to share it with the world. I got his autograph at a time. And I just today was thinking about how much he liked what he did, after seeing an old Schoolhouse Rock clip. The Earth needs more innovators like him. He was an unsung hero of television because he didn't get a lot of recognition, but he did it because it's what he liked to do.

I grew up watching Schoolhouse Rock in the 80's. I met Bob while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2017. His band was playing at the jazz club in Delaware Water Gap PA. after an hour and a half of playing regular jazz songs, he said "Now I'm going to play some songs for the hikers" then he played 4 Schoolhouse Rock songs, I had the widest smile on my face!

Surely the Deerhead Inn. Awesome little town I had the pleasure of living in during late 70's/80's. They take good care of the hikers coming through. my family and i started the Delaware Water Gap Jazz and art's fest in 81' its big start year. had the pleasure of calling Bob Dorough a Dear friend. Loved your comment from a hikers perspective.

Come on, folks, SING ALONG!!! Everyone's so inhibited and "grown-up." Like they're afraid of making fools of themselves for singing "children's songs." Man, I'd've jumped up on the stage and been hamming it up been helping Bob sing these treasured tunes as he helped ME by giving me something wonderful to hold onto in my childhood. Thank you for everything, Mr. Dorough.

I learned to love jazz at the Deerhead Inn, in Delaware Water Gap. Bobby hung out there a lot. I ended up helping to record a flute recital by his daughter at East Stroudsburg. All that I did was to make sure to turn the cassette over, but after that Bobby always made sure to thank me. He was an incredibly kind person. The last time I saw him was at his house. A bunch of people were gathered around the piano, and he and Vicki Doney sang Sentimental Journey.

joy, joyous, joyfulness!!!!!!! :) i just caught back up with the memorial epi of 'fresh air' via podcast i heard a few weeks back while out driving, and had to come look for viddys of the guy... his voice and gentle humor brings back so many memories of being small and cozy, lying in front of the tv, with the smell of crayons, playdoh, tinkertoys and lego around... :) i can only imagine what it must be like at the club on the other side with him now... i'd love to hear him, and folks like scatman crothers and louis armstrong riffing like crazy offa his stuff! they must be having so much fun!! :) seems like he was the 'appalachian bluesman' to hang with, back in the day.

I had a professor that was pissed about "our generation" and how we don't learn anything from TV. He made the mistake of saying that anyone who could stand up and state the preamble of The US Constitution could be excused from class. Of the 50'ish in the class about 12 of stood up and sang the preamble song. He kept his word and that was the first A I got in college. 🤣
