Part of the reason Aang has a headband on his head is to hide his arrow, which symbolizes his mastery of Airbending (which would make his identity known to his enemies). Years later, his youngest son (Tenzin) and granddaughter (Jinora) also gained their arrows for mastering airbending.
@cameronbooker7741Күн бұрын
Just a little context: 3:19 Headband is to disguised his arrow tattoo (which will give away his identity to the fire nation). 3:30 She took the souls in her shoes out because she is blind and can detect her surrounding by feeling vibrations in the ground through her earthbending. 3:38 Aang (main character and the one with the headband) was frozen in an iceberg for 100 years prior to the start of the series. 14:44 Aang is an air nomad (this last one to be exact hence the name of the show) so he knows what happened to his people and how they were wiped out by the Fire Nation. 18:47. As an air nomad, he is an airbender. Due to their element, airbenders are naturally evasive. (Kinda like how a leaf blows in the wind) 23:00. Yes. Just this episode though. (Just to answer you question😊) 25:35 with a hint of Spartacus. Hope this helps. Highly recommend watching the entire series from start to finish.

Avatar is a phenomenal show. It's technically not an anime, as it's a Nickelodeon show made in the USA, but it's heavily inspired by Japanese animation. Despite being a "kids' show," it tackles serious topics like war, grief, nationalism, and even genocide. This episode does a good job portraying how children are indoctrinated with propaganda at a young age. In today's political climate, with so much disinformation in the media, I think this episode is especially relevant now more than ever. The show does a good job illustrating that although the Fire Nation are the "bad guys," life isn't so black and white, and many of the people who live there are good people but are themselves victims of a corrupt system; there are also plenty of bad people who live in the other nations that are oppressed by the Fire Nation. I think it honestly helped shape the way I see the world and how everyone is capable of good and evil, regardless of their upbringing. Also, without giving away too many spoilers, there's a character from the Fire Nation who, throughout the course of the show, has to try and deprogram himself, unlearning all the years of indoctrination that have skewed his perception of the outside world and thinking that those who are not his kind are inferior. The show does so in a very realistic and excellently-written way; imagine having to come to terms with the fact that everything you thought you knew was a lie. It's pretty remarkable for a show made by the same company that produced SpongeBob. Also, for context: the girl who ripped the sole out of the bottom of her shoe is named Toph, and she's completely blind. She's from the Earth Kingdom, and like others who are able to "bend," or manipulate the earth, she is very in tune with the ground beneath her feet. She is able to navigate by listening closely to sounds and sensing vibrations under her feet to judge where other people are in relation to her. She can only do this while she is barefoot, as having shoes on prevents her from being able to feel vibrations. In some ways, you could say she gets around almost like a bat does with sonar, or a dolphin using echolocation. It's viewed as a strength, not a disability, as this heightened connection with what she can feel instead of what she can see makes her the most skilled earthbender in the world. I imagine this show was very empowering to people with lifelong physical handicaps. Again, pretty impressive that Nickelodeon was able to achieve this! I hope you'll consider reacting to the whole show, as well as the follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, which is basically the next generation. I'd definitely tune in to every episode! Netflix also recently released the first season of a live-action adaptation, which has a mixed reception, but I think it's great so far and captures a lot of the same charm and spirit of the original animated series.

Full of complex characters with development and evolution, a complete and interesting story, with chapters that are both comical and heartwarming as well as serious and emotional elements. I know that this channel is more of reacting topics of school and daily life stuff of the job, but Avatar the last airbender is a must to watch, you won’t be disappointed. Either on your own time or bring it to the channel you’re going to enjoy it.

To give some context on this show, the world is divided by 4 nations, the earth kingdom, water tribes, air nomads, and the fire nation. 100 years ago the fire nation started a war to conquer the world and wiped out the air nomads hoping to kill the avatar, an airbender named Aang. They failed and Aang was frozen in ice for 100 years during a storm. He is discovered by 2 water tribe kids named Sokka and Katara and they go on a quest to help him learn the elements and bring balance to the world. By this point in the show the fire nation is close to finally winning the war, and our heroes are waiting for the day of the black sun, when an eclipse will prevent the firebenders from firebending and they can take out the fire lord. Til then they’re just biding their time

@@SchoolPrincipalReacts its also worth noting that as the intro points out,only the avatar can actually bend all 4 elements,however there is alot more to it than that. aside from the mortal world there is also a spirit world...and the avatar is seen as a spiritual mediator and leader of the entire world ontop of keeping peace between all the nations..its also thier job to keep peace between humanity,nature and the spirits. ontop ot that,much like the Dahli Llama,the Avatar actually reincarnates upon thier death and is reborn in a different nation each time in a specific order earth kingdom,fire nation,air nomads and watertibe...and then in the earth kindom again and so forth where they have to re learn the and master the elements each time....Avatar aang of course is an air nomad,and the next avatar will be reincarnated in the water tribe. finally as a side note....this show has been very highly praised as one of the best things Nickelodeon has ever produced..because alot of the inspiration of this fantasy world comes from real world asian and inuit culture...even the 4 bending styles were coriographed to follow the principles of 4 real martial arts (tai chi,bagwa, shaolin,and hungar).

The elements generally represent abstract concepts like balance, freedom, stability, and power, with the Water Tribes symbolizing adaptability and emotion, the Earth Kingdom representing groundedness and resilience, the Air Nomads signifying spiritual enlightenment and freedom, and the Fire Nation representing ambition, aggression, and passion; drawing parallels to real-world philosophies like Taoism
@matityaloran9157Күн бұрын
0:54, the premise is that the world is divided into four nations based on the four elements each of which has certain people capable of controlling the national element and there’s also someone called The Avatar who is capable of controlling all four elements. Whenever the Avatar dies, he’s reincarnated as a member of another elemental nation. The evil Fire Lord Sozin wanted to conquer the world in the name of the Fire Nation but feared the Avatar would stop him. Since he knew the next Avatar would be born an Airbender, he killed all the Airbenders but before he did that an Airbender named Aang found out he was the Avatar and ran away fearing his responsibilities only to be frozen in an iceberg and cryogenically preserved for 100 years. So now, Aang has to learn to control the other three elements so he can stop the Fire Nation from taking over the world
@SylverQrowКүн бұрын
Aang is 112 years old. Basically right before the war started he ran away from home due to the shock of learning about his duties of being the Avatar. Usually Avatars are told at the age of 16 or more but in situations like this, they are told early to start their training to maintain worldly balance. When he ran, it was during a storm, he was swallowed up by the sea and his body as a defense mechanism activated his avatar powers n he has been frozen for 100 years. His people has been wiped out and he is the last airbender. Aangs journey is basically him and his found family traveling the world, training in the other bending discipline and trying find a resolution the 100 years war.

This show is so near and dear to my heart. I watched it from when it first aired all the way up to the finale's premiere. And this episode is very interesting from a worldbuilding perspective. Throughout the series, the Fire Nation has been this looming, antagonistic force with a few individual villains to serve as faces for the threat, but here we see that the Fire Nation is more than just that and that it has ordinary people just living their lives. But it also shows the viewers of the effects of the war in the Fire Nation, itself. Things like the use of propaganda to indoctrinate young citizens as well as history books teaching things the audience knows to be false help to reinforce the believability of the setting. Aang is an Air Nomad and knows for a fact that his people were pacifists and were killed in an act of genocide, yet the Fire Nation teaches a very different narrative to uphold its ideology and promote its regime. The schools are also shown to be a means of restricting individual expression and free thought through excessive discipline and fear, again serving to reinforce indoctrination. It truly is a wonderful series with so many layers and different threads to pick apart. It has phenomenal worldbuilding, beautiful animation and music, excellent voice acting, an intriguing plot, and some very heartwarming themes and messages.

To further elaborate on the comments - The Avatar is peacekeeper that has the ability to control (or bend) all four elements, and is a role that cycles through the four nations as each Avatar is reborn. During the time that Aang was trapped in the ice, the nationalistic Fire Nation driven by mentality of supremacy, began a conquest of the whole world. Throughout what became known as the “Hundred Year War,” the Fire Nation imprisoned and killed people of other nations with the ability to control the other elements. On his arrow tattoos, the air nomads were inspired by monks, and those who master air bending would be given said tattoos to show this. As all air nomads are gone due to the genocide, Aang is the only person in the world with these markers of the air nomads. Normally, one isn’t informed of their status of being the Avatar until their late-teen’s, but a council of the air nomads made an exception given the rising threat of the Fire Nation’s ambitions. This explains why it has fallen on a twelve year-old boy to be the world’s savior. In regards to clothing, not too dissimilar to real life, different countries/societies have different fashion and clothing that is foreign can easily give someone away, hence why the kids stole clothes to avoid detection. As to why the kids are on their own: - Aang’s entire people and culture are dead - Sokka and Katara’s mother was killed during a Fire Nation raid and their father is leading a squadron in the war - Toph, a blind girl from a wealthy family who wanted to control her, ran away after being held prisoner in their home to train Aang in mastering earth bending.

There are some other Disney Channel shows that include some high school stuff. #Amphibia shows a human school in a couple of scenes from one of the finale episodes of season three, and has an episode in season two which is a commentary on college. #TheGhostAndMollyMcGee and #MoonGirlAndDevilDinosaur include multiple episodes that involve school concepts and authority Figures. #KimPossible and #TheProudFamily are two examples from the early 2000s which include multiple episodes that focus a little more on the high school environment that the kids inhabit. The latter actually had a reboot in recent years, and there are multiple episodes pertaining to school, including one where one of the teachers was homeless and squatting in the school, and another involving essentially an activism teacher. I would truly recommend checking all of these out. The Episode lists are sure to be on Wikipedia.

Aang wasn't there when the Fire Nation attacked his people (he was frozen in ice at the time), but he would have known that they didn't have a formal military. The Air Nomads were a very peaceful culture who generally try to avoid violence and, while they would have tried to defend themselves, never would have attacked any of the other nations (hence the lack of a military). Sozin the Fire Lord at the time this war started, wanted to "share the prosperity of the Fire Nation with the rest of the world" through military means, manifest destiny style. To convince the citizens to go along with and participate in this, they're given a very skewed perspective on their own as well as world history, and in some cases outright lied to.

This is a great show and this was a good episode for your channel. To give you a bit of context about stuff that confused you. The fire Nation at this time in the world is a very very authoritarian fascist regime basically a stand in for Nazi Germany down to them starting a war and actively trying to conquer the world. Ang the main character is from the Air nomad Nation. Going back to the WW2 analogy the air nomads are this worlds equivalent to the Jews. At this point in the series the fire Nation has genocided all the air nomads except Ang. His friends are from the water tribe and earth kingdoms basically this worlds version of the UK and Soviet Union going back to the WW2 analogy. ( There is no US equivalent in this world yet, that won't exist till the sequel series "Legend of Korra") At this point in the series Ang and his friends are helping undercover to gather intelligence for there version of DDay in which there nation's army's will invade and take out Fire lord Ozai ( this worlds Hitler) I don't think there's any other episodes of this show that have such a heavy enfasis on school there are a few that focus on martial arts classes but they aren't really a standard school like environment. Other way it's a grate show you would really enjoy.

Principal Brandon, I LOVE ATLA!!! It's too bad you didn't have more background on this show, but you've made it through fine. Aang was basically cryogenically frozen in an iceberg from 100 years ago, found later by Sokka and Katara. The Fire Nation is under authoritarian rule, but it wasn't always like that. They started a world war in a bid for total power shortly after Aang froze himself (the freezing was not intentional). The four nations are: The Fire Nation, The Earth Kingdom, The Water Tribe, and The Air Nomads. When the Fire Nation started the war they g*n*c*d*d the Air Nomads, except for Aang, because he had run away from his air temple before the invasion. So when he was found a century later, he really was the last air bender. People in this world can 'bend' (manipulate) one of the four elements, but only the Avatar (a perpetually reincarnated figure, going through a specific cycle through the nations) can learn to control all four elements. Aang is the Avatar. It is the Avatar's duty in each of its lifetimes to help bring balance and peace to the world. I could go on and on explaining this show, actually. I've seen it a million billion times and have watched several reaction channels going through it as well. When it was very first airing I didn't miss a single episode on its original air date. Sir, this show is worthy of your attention, I promise you that. But it follows a chronology that requires starting at the very first episode and going through it in order. It is three seasons long. First two seasons are 20 episodes and the third season is 21 episodes and it tells an amazing story. Thanks for this episode! Cheers!

Since that line wasn’t originally part of the pledge, it was added in 1954 during the Cold War. I said it every time for the sake of not looking odd in class. If you see the teacher do it, it’s natural to follow.

This show actually has a tendency to being rather well done in terms of cultural representations. Not that it matters a lot, but the Fire Nation is loosely based on Imperial Japanese culture, the Air Nomads [which Aang is] are based on Tibetan Buddhist monks, the Water Tribes [which Aang's 2 companions are] are based on the Inuits and Yupiks and the Earth Kingdom is based on Ming dynasties China. Aang is the Avatar - which is a person who is supposed to keep the world in balance. The entire series, which is 3 seasons long, is about the war between the Fire Nation and everyone else which has been going for the last 100 years, while Aang was frozen in ice. Oh, and Aang is 12 years old [well, technically 112], while Sokka is 15 and Katara is 14 years old. Also the world is depicted as equivalent to the mid 1800s, so culturally the ages are not seen as being as young as we would see them - that is, someone 12 would be viewed almost more like we would view a 16 year old today. I realise this is not that significant unless one is watching the whole series, but even so, sometimes it is nice to have context. Oh, about the issue of saying the pledge of allegiance - I am an older Canadian who remarried a few years back, and the woman I married had lived in California years back with her first husband and her 2 children, one of whom was in school. Though she and her husband were actually Canadians, they were living in Sunnyvale, California due to her husband's work and they ran into a rather significant issue with the school because her daughter would not say the pledge, since she was a Canadian citizen. Now I know that by law, she did not have to, but the school itself tried very hard to pressure her into it and her teacher in particular tried to create peer pressure to force the issue. The fact that she was not an American, and therefore, all else aside, actually should not have been making the pledge, seemed to be totally lost on the teacher. I realise that is not how it should have been, but things like that do happen [not just in the US - I had some issues in my own early days in school here in Canada ... that was at a school on an Air Force base as my father was in the Canadian Air Force.]

There are other shows which at least take place in a high school environment, such as #TotallySpies and #DCSuperheroGirls . I would be grateful for reaction videos to them, but I’m not certain if you want to do into those, just because the genre ends up being kind of huge.

Hello. How dare you know nothing about a show that you have never watched ;-) No but seriously this show is great. And The fire nation school is supposed to be like a school in Stalin’s Russia or Hitler’s Germany. And The fire nation tried to take over the other 3 nations that is why the Avatar is supposed to learn all four elements (water, earth fire and he already knew air) He needs to defeat the Fire Lord. Oh and this is the Footloose episode LOL!!! Oh and do the Beach episode. It dosen’t take place at school, but teens have a party. Haha.

23:29 nah, the fire nation seems to be based on Chinese culture. Very strict on tradition.

All schools do the pledge. Whether or not you have to stand depends on the school. 🇺🇸

I speak for all Avatar: The Last Airbender fans when I tell you that the show is a CARTOON, not an ANIME. I couldn't care to tell you the defining differences between a cartoon or an anime, but what I will say is that I don't consider American Dad to be an anime, just like I don't consider One Punch Man to be a cartoon.

I speak for all Avatar fans when I say, chill, bro. It's not that serious. It's easy to see why people who don't know the show was produced in America would assume it's an anime at a glance. The creators were heavily inspired by Japanese animation, and the fact that people have a hard time telling them apart just means that the show succeeds at what they were trying to achieve. Avatar looks a heck of a lot closer in art direction to One Punch Man than American Dad. Why not just appreciate the fact that a school principal even knows what anime is instead of doing the thing toxic fandoms do and expecting everyone else to have encyclopedic knowledge on things that really don't matter in the grand scheme?

What are you talkng about? Teachers talk down to students all the time and face no consequences. Too many teachers get into that job because of wanting to feel some sense of power. And with bullies too, that's also accurate: it's often the victim who's seen as the perpetrator because of whom the bullies (and their parents) are connected to, so I don't why you're surprised by that. Teachers and principals are often useless with that too. Edit: Another thing that real life schools do too: unfortunately punishing students for what they do outside of school, in this case, a dance party. Once the kids are out of school, let them be.

Every school is different - I’m sorry you had this experience. The law requires schools to step in under certain circumstances, even if the behavior is off campus. This is most true when it comes to social media and making threats. Thanks for watching!
