It is refreshing to get to see a school psychologist who is very passionate about education and mental health. As a LMSW from South Carolina, I can say that mental health is a tough field but at the same time, I personally see it as a needed service. I really enjoyed all of your videos.

Hi! Thank you so much for answering my question!! In my state, EdS is required but I’m going for my PhD because I want to eventually open up my own practice after working in schools. As an update, I have two interview invites so I’m expecting the worst but praying for the best! I love that you’re sharing about the field to KZbin and I appreciate it. Blessings to you! 💛

Hi! I love you videos :) You are seriously a go-getter and your videos are so interesting. Can you please give me tips for internship. I go to National University in El Segundo - so any tips help
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I remember those days! My advice would be, study and make sure you understand what this job entails. Example, learning all the disabilities and how you qualify students for sped. I think this is one of the most important things. However, other portions of the job are equally as important. Ex. Counseling, collaboration, report writing and how to interpret results. I will also say save up your money, just in case you don’t get a paid internship. This time can be very stressful especially if you have financial obligations and responsibilities. Start early looking for your practicum and internship. It’s so much I can give advice on but that’s just a few that came to mind. And thanks so much for watching, I’m glad you are enjoying! ❤️

Thank you so much for creating these videos ! I’m currently a school Psychology grad student and I wanted to know if you are a member of NASP and if so have you ever attended a national convention? Is it worth it for a graduate student to sign up with NASP?
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 5 жыл бұрын
You’re so very welcome. Actually I’m not a member of NASP, but I am member of the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP). I have never attended a national convention, only the state level. I was planning on attending this year in Atlanta but it snuck up on me so quickly. I will definitely be going next year. Yes I think it’s worth signing up to keep up to date with evidence based practices and all the resources they offer. I signed up for California because it’s specific to my state, in terms of current regulations. They both offer similar information. Thanks for watching ❤️

@Couple2Love Hello thanks for the video! I was wondering how difficult is it to find a job after graduate school in California? Also what are ways we can get a real perspective of what it is like to be a school psychologist before we commit to a graduate program. Thank you

After I graduated and my credentialed clear, I was hired literally the next week. I was able to start on the second week of school. There is a huge need in California, I receive emails all the time because I have my resume posted. Yes that’s awesome that you want to get a real perspective of what it’s like to be a school psych. Is there anything specific that you would like to see? Maybe I can do a video to help you.

@@Couple2Love omg that's really nice to hear and thank you so much for the reply. I live in bay area and there seems to be a big demand for school psychologists and dont wanna move to far from home. I was wondering while if we are in undergraduate school should we volunteer or what can we do to get some kind of experience to show when we apply to graduate school. Maybe working with children with special needs or autism?I do have 2 questions. Would you know if there is difference in work life and workload between rural and urban school psychologists and also what are the chances that one would have to be in 3 different school like in your situation. Thank you again subscribed!

Do you know if you can get a school psychologist degree and become a school counselor with it ever? I like both jobs but don’t want to get two degrees if I can have one and do either. Thanks!
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 4 жыл бұрын
These are two separate jobs and require graduate programs in each area. So if you wanted to do both you would have to get a degree in each area. As a school psychologist I wouldn’t be able to work as a school counselor or vice versa.

@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 4 жыл бұрын
I got my bachelors in Human Services. It really doesn’t matter what you get your Bachelors in. I’ve seen people switch careers that was in Business etc. Of course it would be helpful if someone majored in Psychology initially, that’s a good foundation to build upon in the School Psychology program. Ultimately the school psychology program will teach you everything you need to know about the career.

Do you have any advice/comments regarding some of the negative things people say about school psychology? I was reading this thread www.indeed.com/community/healthcare/school-psychology-as-a-career-pros-and-cons-please-advise/td-p/758348/page/2 and it seems mostly negative.
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 4 жыл бұрын
I read through some of the comments and this is how some people feel. I cant knock it because that is their experience of the field. However, I would say that there is a lot of work that comes with this profession. Ex. Report writing, testing, meetings. And a lot of the times you may have a demanding caseload. So, if someone is not willing to put forth the effort that is required of this position then it may not be the job for them. If a person doesn’t like writing or writing reports, attending meetings etc. Then they should rethink the position. Yes, I’ve had demanding caseloads where I’ve taken work home. Yes, it can be stressful. But I also love my job and I practice self care. Your job is what you make it. I hope this helps. TFW, let me know if you have any other questions. ❤️

Do public or private schools pay more?
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 5 жыл бұрын
It depends. The salary ranges vary from districts to private schools. The salaries in California range from $75,000 - $100,000 +. It just depends on that particular district or private school on what they are offering on their pay scales. But I find that they both are any where between the salary mentioned above. I’ve always applied to the highest paid districts. And the one I’m in now is pretty decent.

The year long internships are really ridiculous and exploitative. Why would I pay tuition to work for free? That's wild to me.

What is your work/ life balance .... are you able to live comfortably and still enjoy family and work or is the job emotionally taxing ?
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 5 жыл бұрын
Yes the job can be emotionally taxing. But it’s all in how you create professional boundaries. I’ve learned recently that it’s okay to say no to colleagues and that I can only do what I can. At times I have some much work but lately I’ve been refusing to take it home unless absolutely necessary! I have four kids and a husband so I have to set those boundaries.
@Couple2Love
@Couple2Love 5 жыл бұрын
And yes I do live comfortably, it’s a great field. I have teacher work hours, weekends and holidays off. Plus winter, spring and summer break. There are pros and cons just like any other profession, for me the pros out weighs the cons! TFW ❤️
