Q is right for himself, because he is Q. He is in my top10 rap artist, BUT. People tend to forget that there is a whole world of different people that can offer good stuff in different ways. You can sell vegetables and be a top tier painter, you can make music and be top tie orator, you can be the friendly neighbor and be very important link in a social movement, u get my point. It's weird when an artist is placing people in labels that's aligned to their point of view. I know your persona is a big part of the reason why you are here and why you are motivated to do your thing, but at the same time as an artist you know very well what is to be judged based on another person's life experiences and feelings. I'm an introvert for the most part and I get Q's lifestyle of not always being in the spotlight and I really respect it. But at the same time I know when your nature is open to the world I can't tell you that you should be quiet. Do your thing in a smart and respectful way and then it's all good. Also it is VERY important to understand what can keep your drive to be creative, you have to find different ways to fuel your flame, because you can really kill your momentum and creativity. Keep doing what you feel is right, without compromising your integrity, good people and good ideas, and also DON'T judge people when you don't know the whole picture. Push forward! :)

I respect Q's perspective. Mystery and illusion is a big part of artistic vision of an artist. With that being said times have changed and whether you like it or not social media requires some form of constant presence in order to stay relevant and build upon ones catalog. It's a tricky divide though because not everyone that loves you for your podcast will automatically want to hear your music. Artists who don't have much money can leverage social media for engagement but it comes with knowing that not everyone will be on board for your music. Some people are just good for pushing your name up the algorithm while others are good for buying and streaming your music. The difficulty of monetizing music means an artist needs to be an army swiss knife. A jack of many trades just to keep pace with whatever paycheck you can get. Music is not selling to good if we are being honest so it helps if you can make money through social media interaction as well.

Look, at some point, we all gotta think about working for ourselves. Or put another way, we need to get our butts in gear and figure out how to make money by being self-employed. It's real easy to get comfortable when someone else is laying out the path for you and handing you a paycheck. But that cozy setup can come crashing down when companies such as DSPs start squeezing people's incomes or that corporation starts letting folks go. The hard truth is, relying solely on a regular job leaves us vulnerable, whether we want to acknowledge that harsh reality or not. That's why we all need to cultivate and nurture the skills and a mindset for being our own boss. It's a wolf versus dog mentality. Wolves hunt. Dogs wait for the bowl. I've been between the two over my career and if the wolf is in you, it is in you when the right moments come along. Let me be clear - All wolves aren't eating well, but they are eating. The wolf route doesn't mean you get to do less work or to decide to work when you want to (unless its some sort of lifestyle business - I've seen people owning those. Think insurance brokers, etc) because you will miss out on the hunt and thus paper. But people can make this trade-off for themselves. This also doesn't mean you don't have anyone to answer: If a certain set of customers irritate you, but they are integral to your paper, well you'll have more patience, until you can get to a point where you can fire them because you have enough paper coming from another cohort of customers. I say this to express that people shouldn't become enamored with the idea of becoming self-employed solely to be their own boss. Everyone is a customer of someone else. If you are a W2, you are selling your services to a company. As a 1099, it's even more clear.

I think with Curtis one thing I personally think could work for him is if he pushed a body of work with a lead single , I think a little more order with a few select songs in a body of work would be easier to digest , I just checked his Instagram and there’s a lot of amazing and creative reels showing his skill but there’s too many songs being promoted all at the same time , if all those reels where pushing the lead single from an EP we could get 2 to 3 songs really stick to a larger audience and core fan base

This is an extremely outdated approach that doesn’t apply to indie artists with a catalog. Here’s what my strategy is and why it’s working for me as a Direct To Consumer artist: The posts on my Instagram are not singles, they are selected songs from my extensive catalog. Every song points listeners directly to my catalog where they will ultimately spend more time and money when they choose to invest in it. Daily, each post generates income that allows me to run ads on posts that perform the best organically. Rinse and repeat 🔁
