I think that this drill is likely THE most important one in ANY combat sport or self defense class… yet I’ve rarely seen it done. When you don’t fear getting hit it gives you such an advantage over the vast majority of the population. Great stuff as always Coach! 👍

Obvious this training is very good, but what I like the most is the little instructive glimpses we see in these clips. The whole "I will talk you through it" as you prepare the group to begin drilling. A good instructor must address the human nature of the students with understanding and without judgment. Creating this environment where everyone feels safe enough to put ego aside is extremely important because ego and self-consciousness are the biggest barriers to learning. I deeply admire the way you manage the class as an instructor.

Very nice video, people often overlook the real aggression spirit: there are no rules, or maybe only one: survive. We do also a similar kind of training in France, called the "RED Training" were we do learn basic fighting skills, grappling/floor combat, knife and stick defense... and protecting yourself is the most important thing in a violent altercation. You Sir are a good mentor, and yes, sometimes you got a black eye from the training, but if it can save your life, then I will take the black eye anyday. Once again, violence is the latest response as you said but when it become unavoidable, you better be prepare for that storm... All the best from France !

I have literally expressed the same opinion when it comes to an "active" guard and limb destruction. I always say that if you happen to hurt or injure someones fist, its a great bonus . Its not the main motive. I have to reach out to you and come to Holland to train with you for 100 reasons brother. You are a intelligent brother from another mother.

Excellent video...most people have no idea what its like to be hit hard. .being hit is an important part of training. In some martial art training you must stand still and takes strikes in different areas , its conditioning and toughens you mentally and physically.

It's mainly psychologic. I got used to it in sparring and fights. If the strikes don't put you down right away (like a hard liver shot or a KO), that means you can keep working. Pain and blood are not much when you realize it's superficial.

Absolutely
@joconnell11 ай бұрын
This is such a good idea and I totally agree with you on the kenpo guy. I did kenpo for a looot of years and it’s very simulated, you pull punches especially since you’re trying to go for weak targets - eyes, throat, groin. I’ve no idea what this situation feels like so this drill is such a smart idea so I wouldn’t lose my head if it ever did!

I have come across many, many, many dubious so called experts on here and have called many out on both the techniques they are showing and their training methods. (Resulting in challenges to fight some of them😅). But coming from a background of 20 years of martial arts followed by 20 plus years of combatatives including CQB and Krav Maga, I can say in all honesty that this is the first guy I have seen who knows what he is talking about and what he is doing.

I always tried to explain to the guys and girls that I trained with when I was kickboxing, if you don't competition fight or go heavy sparing how do you know if you can take a hit and fight back. Fighting is not all about hitting someone its about, avoiding the hits coming you way if you can, taking them if you can't and hitting back hard under duress. Getting hit hurts, no ifs or buts about it, nobody likes getting hurt, but accept it's going to happen and dial the reply upto 11 and hit hard, Maximum Fucking Violence is the thought process. Great video, this guy knows his stuff.

Did over 10 years of martial arts, did couple years of prison time, became the president of my wing, and I would say if you have good training and a able body then you will always be shocked and defeated no matter what (unless you chose your opponents, weaker), what you need is his golden advice, get in a small room, get cornered, get a few guys to attack you and train with this method he is showing. If you get hit with a metal piece on the head you should stand not fall if you have years of training, so this unlock is needed.

I teach a fitness boxing class. Some of the people are interested in self defense or eventually upgrading to sparring, so we do similar drills like this sometimes but usually light, for those who think they can handle it. Even if you come out of a class and learn that your punches don't hurt someone, or what a good distance is, or if you can keep your eyes open behind your guard while punches are coming in, that's all useful information. Is a fitness boxing class going to make a BJJ black belt? No. Will it make you a golden gloves? No. But every step, every training, is one more than most people do. Most humans never threw a punch or ever got hit. GOOD STUFF!

Great man , It is good to get realy hit somtimes just to get the experiance. A lot people forget Marshall art is a SPORT. In a real fight I aim on the testickles, CollaRbone ( sleutelbeen) and try to rip it off an break the collarbone. Real fight has no rules , If you realy want somone and he is too big or strong he will atack from behind. Not fair , but it is the reality. I havent (real) fight for more then 25 years. The time they use onley belts and bicycle chain. Those days are different. Now the use Guns and knives.
@billymcneal123910 ай бұрын
I love the defensive movement with multiple attackers. One small caveat If your blocking and raising your elbow leaving the body exposed. A person off the street will not know this but a boxer/fighter will just hit your exposed ribs or liver which in my opinion is much more than your chin or face. Second there is a small window if timed correctly to throw an uppercut the upper cut. Like Tyson threw the shots kidney shot then straight up with the upper cut.

You leaving the back of your neck open but otherwise , sage advice. You need to be put in a pressure situation to be able to react in the same in real life. Good training.

In the Military there is a class one can take, and the acronym escapes me but it is for getting captured and held as a prisoner of war. One of the things one has to do, is walk down the Slap Line. Just like it sounds, you walk between people and they slap you as you walk. This is how you get used to being hit in the face. HOOAH!!!

Can't imagine this guy being scared of anyone, his dentist must be one bad MF, The crazy thing is is that when it's over you feel more alive than ever before and want more. The first thing my boxing coach said to me "in a fight you can wave karate arms around but something will get through, if you can deal with that you'll win more than you lose"
