44871 and the Midland Pullman at Carlisle and Haltwhistle 11 05 24

On the hottest day of the year so far, Ian Riley's Black Five 44871 is bringing in the Cumbrian Mountain Express from London, supported by 57 315, while the Midland Pullman is operating the Settle to Carlisle and Tyne Valley Pullman from St Albans - and a long list of picking-up points.

- - both the Black Five and the IC125 - - each a commonplace in its day, but each gave years of first-class service. For comfortable, spacious accommodation - a window and a table for every passenger - the 125 was streets ahead of the stock which has replaced it.

Interesting to see what was happening at the Citadel before I got there. I'd been tempted to stay at St Nicholas bridge. Managed to get out to Denton School crossing in time to record your train!

Good to see one of Riley's locos at the Citadel and a great view around Halltwhistle. Hope they keep the signal box in good condition.👍

I couldn't help feeling that the signal box was looking rather shabbier than on my last visit. Holywood gates have shown us just how quickly things can deteriorate, even when in use.

A lovely day out and a nice change from seeing Tangmere Blue Pullman was a good choice to go and see there, and I never knew that was the centre of Britain

To make the claim work you have to include the Orkney Islands but exclude the Shetlands. A slightly dodgy claim, I think!
