Wonderful philosophy. Schopenhauer, despite his reputation as a pessimist, is actually quite a compassionate man. He gives us these insights for us to reflect on how we can avoid the traps we make for ourselves. His compassion for animals, wishing birds to be free from cages, and dogs to be unleashed, draws a parallel to us to let go of our attachments that cage us, in the material world, worry in our jobs, and constant pleasure seeking robbing us of the present moment. I can see why he was drawn to Buddhist mysticism, particularly the practice of non-attachment for a way to appreciate the present moment. I found this book in a second hand shop many years ago, and its message always stuck with me. Thanks for the reading.
