Have you played the original Schotten Totten? What are your thoughts?

I just wanted to come to your most recent video to say you guys are exceptionally good at what you do.

I bought this after your first impressions and have only played it once and I love it way more than the original. I agree with everything you said about the stress and difficult decisions in this version, but that's what sells it for me. I love the agony of those tough decisions! I'll keep the original for now because it's small, but I don't see myself playing it over ST2

This looks very interesting. Knizia is hands down my favorite designer. I have a single shelf devoted to him. Battleline is in my top 10 because of it's simplicity yet range of good decisions that I can play with anyone. Schotten Totten always looked like a different flavor that I just wasn't interested in but this one looks like it could be different enough to warrant owned it. He has been on a role lately with revamping his designs such as Lost Cities Rivals, Yellow and Yangtze, Blue Lagoon and Babylonia. Every one of them I have said "But I love X, I don't need to own both" and after a quick solo play to learn it: I was wrong every time. They all co-exist with eachother VERY well. Knizia is one that is worth the deep dive. Many gamers will play his games and say "Oh, I like that" but move on to the new shiny...but many of his games are just rock solid with low rules overhead and DEEP strategy.

He is a game design master, we love pretty much anything he has put out. Love Blue Lagoon and you are totally right, Yellow & Yangtze was a perfect tweak too!

Of the hundred or so games I have, this is our forever game. We played the first one over 100 times in the past years and played the new one 24 times after release. I want to say it feels like it’s easier to defend overall. We almost never score a win as attacker but enjoy it nonetheless. Love it!!

NICE, Your are a super fan! It's definitely nerve wracking being the aggressor knowing those cauldrons are coming lol.

A great two player game to review and showcase is Hive Carbon. We complicate it a little more .... with the exception of the queen, flip all of the tiles up side down. Which ever bug you choose, you must play. 😉

Hi Brian, that's great! It has a such good amount of tension for a card game.

We got Convoy in our collection and that game reminds me of it a lot :). If you like Shotten Totten I think you will also like Convoy, but not sure if it is worth to have two very similar games in your library :)

Haven't heard of that one. I'd be willing to check it out!

If you had to choose between original Schotten Totten and Lost Cities, which would you guys go for? Buying a present for my partner and can't decide.
@BeforeYouPlay3 жыл бұрын
I asked Monique and we both agreed that we would go with Schotten Totten. We own both games but if we had to choose 1... Lost Cities is great but it's one of those games you play for a little bit and then put it away for several months (at least for us).

@@BeforeYouPlay Thank you so much!! Just ordered. Ya'll are the best. So excited for all your great reviews this year. A KZbin highlight of 2021 is DEFINITELY going to be watching your review of Weather Machine - if it comes out in time!

Hi Monique and Naveen, I am writing to you about something that isn't related to the game you are talking about in this video. I don't have another way of contacting you but I wanted to ask a question. As you probably know Jamey of Stonemaier Games has designed a new game based on a trilogy called Red Rising. I wanted to know if you have read this series or read any reviews, particularly by women? I am only a short way into the book and struggling with some stuff. I would appreciate any opinions you have about the way the subject matter is handled in the series. Thank you in advance.
@BeforeYouPlay3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, Monique has read the trilogy actually but she hasn't read any reviews or heard the opinion of others. Feel free to email us at beforeyouplaygames@gmail.com and she'd love to discuss this with you. Thank you for reaching out!
