A friend gave me one secondhand last week and it was dull enough to drag it across my wrist without any fear of causing damage. I was extremely surprised with the hardness of the steel when I started sharpening it. I've mostly owned Gerber knives in the past mostly due to the low cost but my Gerber fixed blade(cannot remember name but 8831220A is the number) just feels cheap when I hold it now. Although the SCHF57 blade is almost twice as thick as my Gerber one so I may keep it around for delicate work such as field dressing or other cooking stuff.
