Even though solder has a core of rosin flux, guys who do this every day add a dab of extra flux before reheating a broken joint, then wipe away the flux after finishing. I started doing that and was amazed at how much better my joints ended up. This is a good video, Matt. Broken plastic fasteners are the biggest challenge for guys trying to find a way behind the dash. So, there is a role for a fastener by fastener description of a procedure, even though it doesn't fit very well with entertainment goals.

Yep - only 2:20 minutes in before we are treated to a Christmas asshat impersonation - haha. But how did you know, right off the bat, that the issue was at the dash and not further back towards the control module? I would never have spotted that loose resistor; I guess I have so much to learn about electronics. Fortunately for you, your degree in molecular biology covered you for the removal of the screws, but most of us would have struggled with that part. And kudos on reducing a 1939 Oscar-winning classic to a farce in which a scarecrow gets hanged, and a little girl scares the piss out of a lion. LMAO - this video had me in stitches!
@SchrodingersBox3 жыл бұрын
That’s actually a really good question. the reason I know it’s a circuit board issue and not for example a BCM issue is because the odometer display itself is produced by the circuit board. Something like the meter not changing with mileage or the temperature reading wrong I would judge to be an input issue and I would have looked elsewhere for that. But the display being blank is a circuit board issue.

I've endured a many a video watching bolts being removed. I got bit once with a reverse threaded bolt. So I said never again. I start all bolt removal with the idea going in to it, that it is reverse thread. Snapped a many of heads off with my thought process. Turns out most bolts aren't reverse thread. Who'd of thunk? Well not this guy I tell ya. So now before any bolt/screw removal I search out for a video to see how the feller is removing the dang thing before I snap another head off. The best back in the day was to play the record backwards. All kind of evil messages was in there. Lol Merry Christmas to you and your family Matt! Happy New Year!

UV light is also used to detect assembly flaws, omissions, misplacements, misalignments, shorts, and polarity checkpoints on all leaded packages. You nailed it. They are jealous that they can’t do this without step by step instructions and it makes them realize “wow, I’m an armchair mechanic after all” Anytime you do actual diagnostics- especially electrical, AND you are a DIY, you are gonna get the armchair mechanics hating you because they see their own lacking skills. And they hate that. I can’t even count the number of people who have been wrenching for over 40 years, and they still have no clue how to use a DVOM.

I think it is a skill and lots of experience to take that apart without breaking anything . Different skill than using a scope to test a wheel sensor but a higher level skill in my opinion.Why do we always downgrade manual skills
@SchrodingersBox3 жыл бұрын
The reason is because EVERYONE has that “skill”. There are millions and millions of people who have been changing parts “skillfully” for 30, 40 , even 50+ years and yet not a single one of them has properly diagnosed the part they changed- especially if it’s electrical. One reason they are so “skilled” is from practice because of changing so many unneeded parts. By your definition, every time I am at Oreilleys and the guy in front of me is trying to return a MAP sensor and buys a MAF sensor and then later returns that to buy an O2 sensor and later returns that to buy a IAC but he never damaged the parts while installing them is more skilled than me who knows exactly what I need the first time.

@SchrodingersBox3 жыл бұрын
Hi tecnico- you have been here more than 2 years I know. It’s not so much defensive as it is offensive (as in, in an aggressive offense mode- not offensive as in insulting). The fact is I cannot stand the incompetence and just plain stupidity that overwhelmingly inundates not just KZbin, but the entire internet. The reason being because those idiots dilute the actual factual information to such a point that it is undiscoverable. Take covid for example. There is so much ridiculously inaccurate and false information out there and keeping in mind that uneducated people looking for factual information have no way to discern what’s accurate and what isn’t, it is impossible for real factual information to become prevalent. This results in an epidemic of ignorance that is more contagious than the virus itself. When it comes to Car repair videos? It’s even 100X worse!!!! That’s why I take an aggressive stance against armchair experts, seafoam suckers, and especially people who criticize what I am trying to do insofar as create a safer haven from the idiocy out there. Just imagine how awesome the internet would be if people who talked out of their ass would just STFU and only knowledgeable people with evidence based information posted. You could gets facts so much easier. I have always said, the only way to defeat ignorance is to challenge it, because ignorance NEVER goes away on its own.
