@chuckharrel8272 you would not believe how many people have never heard his name or Uriah Heep. I listen to a few Heep songs when I was 5. I did not listen to more albums by Heep until I was 35. After being inspired to learn to play bass by my friend Laurie McAllister (last bass player in Runaways and with Orchids), I noticed his bass playing right away. Personal experiences can influence how we perceive things a lot.

Every rock bass player who has ever mentioned jazz bassist Scott LaFaro (Bill EvansTrio) as an influence has been phenomenal. Thain, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones are the first three that come to mind.

Also, I must agree with you Curt !!!! I remember, that in one winter day of the year of 1973 ... I could hear Uriah Heep for my first time, just when I was finishing eating my breakfast, before I go to my Technical High School in Warsaw, Poland ... it was the song "July Morning", and because of that 11 minutes and 35 seconds of its length, I missed my planned city bus and I was late to the school with consequences about being not on time. I couldn't stop listening ... it was a broadcast on a poor quality AM waves of the Polish National Radio channel 1 ..... but such a music was OUTSTANDING, and pumping up my young mind instantly to the unbelievable level.

As much as Ken, Lee, David will be missed....Very few ever knew Gary had a very hard ..very bad drug problem. The band fired him. And, not to long after, Gary od'd. I was 13 back then...and I knew from there on . UH was going to slip. Soon after David was fired. UH was never the same. Sad, but I guess that was the business of rock n roll. Sad, but Mick is the last surviving Member of the greatest line up ever. Long Live Rock. Thank you for the tunes you left us.

I'm with wiggindesign on this one. After about '73 nothing much new really happened. I was lucky that I was a kid around the late 60's early 70's and experienced the excitement every time a new LP came out from these colossal bands. Heep was one of them. But then again maybe i'm just a nostalgic dinosaur. BTW the sound mix in this video highlights what a great player Thain was. The band never really recoverd from his ( and Byron's) loss.

These guys had the worst management! I saw them on a HS soccer field in a podunk town (Oildale) south of Bakersfield with Dave Mason for .75 cents. Just a classic lineup and the main reason I started actually practicing: Ken Hensley was the bomb, all over the place playing keys and slide guitar, little teeny guy, all hair and high heeled shoes. Mick Box was a monster on guitar, peeling riffs up and down the neck like water....and just a driving beat with Kerslake and Thain. Easily the best vocals of the time.

Im great Heep fan.If you notice the trinity of hard rock had 2 virtuoso in their bands, but Heep in their classic line had only one..Gary Thain.Hensley was to busy composing song for them.He should have asked Mick to be more aggressive buck up on his guitar solos or fired him to get replace a virtuoso guitarist....if they did this...Uriah Heep would have been the big three.
