I don't know whether I love his voice, either as a youth or as an adult, or his conducting, more. His Bach roles are too awesome for mere men to comprehend. One of his St. Matthew Passions (BWV 244), where he both conducted and sang the Evangelist's tenor is too fabulous to describe, it has to be experienced to even begin! His 6th piece in the 2nd cantata of the 6-cantata work Weihnactsoratorium, BWV 248, the tenor aria, "Frohe Hirten, eilt, ach eilet," has heaven's wings! Gold standard!!!

Peter Schreier schrie aber nicht.So wie ich das hier heraus lese.Was bei einigen Sängern aber der Falll ist.Auch hielt er viel von Fritz Wunderlich,Er kam mit FW durch Hermann Prey nur einmal zusammen.Das reichte aber,dass FW von Peter Schreier sehr viel hielt.Auch,wenn ich FW bevorziehe.FW empfahl Peter Schreier für die Salzburger Festspiele undweiteren Konzerten,ebenso noch andere Sänger.Wie ich las,wollte er gerne ,dass Kurt Equiluz in der"Johannes-Passion"singt,als er zeitlich nicht konnte.

Irgendjemand hat wohl mal den Witz gemacht: "So einen Namen sollte kein Sänger haben". Es war Hermann Prey der Schreier und Wunderlich miteinander bekannt machte. Es war für Schreier auch nicht einfach, zum "Nachfolger Wunderlichs" erklärt zu werden, wußte ja selbst, daß er ein anderes Timbre hatte, aber eben auch in dessen Fach paßte. Die beiden sind nicht zu vergleichen. Wunderlich hatte sicherlich eine schönere Stimme, aber Schreier hat auch seine Qualitäten. Gerade beim Lied (auch eine Spezialität von Wunderlich) kommt es darauf an, seine eigene Interpretation zu finden. Schreier hat eine andere als Wunderlich, aber keine von beiden ist falsch.
