Great thanks for this, I use the vfg system on my rifles but only ever do a single pass, so showing my ignorance here, but why pull the dirty pads back up the rifle to the chamber?
@alanrhonemedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, the felts actually act similar to a mop instead of a brush. So as you pass the felt back and to you're working the fouling out off the barrel wall and it is soaked up onto the felt. If there are any loose pieces, there are sometimes pushed out of the end of the muzzle when the felts get to the end. We draw the rod and felts out of the chamber end because once the felts push out of the muzzle, you have to remove the felts or adaptor at the muzzle and then draw the empty rod back up through the barrel. I hope this is useful to you. If you have any further questions, let us know.

alanrhone media Thank you understood, what you describe is what I do, push through, take the dirty felt off, then carefully withdraw the rod.! Is this wrong?
@alanrhonemedia4 жыл бұрын
@@mikeball1862 I wouldn't say it's wrong, but we found when we removed the felts off at the muzzle and withdrew the rod, it would inevitably touch/scrape against the barrel wall. Now and again is fine but repeated 100 times over a long period of time and cleaning sessions, it can't be good for the barrel, so if we can avoid it 9 times out of 10, we try to.

alanrhone media Ah, ok thats clear, thank you

@@mikeball1862 No problem. It's trial and error finding out what works best. So we're kind of passing on our findings to people. I think everyone finds a little system that works for them. We hope you're finding the VFG system useful.

Thanks for the video. How many times should we push the pellets up and down the barrel?
@alanrhonemedia2 жыл бұрын
This can be done quite a few times. We would normally do maybe 3 or 4 up and downs for each new felt. Make sure to finish by pushing the felt out at the muzzle end though, so any bits or build up comes out with the felt rather than back towards the chamber.

Hi. After a long time storage with an oiled barrel, would you recommend using a felt before use. Or is this not required?
@alanrhonemedia4 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, yes a felt or two would be recommended. It would be a good idea to flush the oil from the barrel using a felt before shooting it. The oil is a coating on the inside of barrel to preserve the condition when it's in storage.

How would you recommend using vfg cleaning products on lever action rifles?
@alanrhonemedia2 жыл бұрын
The only method would be to enter from the muzzle and rod towards the chamber. The downside is that you are pushing any fouling back up into the chamber so you have to watch for this. If you position the rifle so the ejection port is facing downwards (rifle upside down), this may help any fouling drop clear from the rifle. You're aiming to collect any fouling before it has a chance to go elsewhere. Also, I would mark the rod with the tape, like on the video, so you don't go too far with the rod. I hope this helps.

what are the tips for cleaning the barrel properly using a bronze brush, how can it be done over and over again? because every time you rub it there is still dirt and if it is done repeatedly it will damage the barrel, please answer

Hi do you do a kit for the .204 or could you use the .17 rod with a .22 felt?
@alanrhonemedia4 жыл бұрын
The .22 to 6.5mm size VFG Cleaning rod and .22 felts can be used with a .204. As the felts compress, the .22 is a little bit tighter than it should be, but it passes down the barrel fine. If you are using a VFG adaptor on an English Style or US Rod, I would double check the diameter of the rod as .204 measures 5.18mm. So make sure your rod diameter is not more than 5mm to be safe. I hope this helps.
@guyhoughton55664 жыл бұрын
@@alanrhonemedia Thanks for the swift response, do you sell a rod that would be suitable.
@alanrhonemedia4 жыл бұрын
@@guyhoughton5566 Yes, we do have a few different options available. I have gone to check the VFG rod on a .204 Ruger we have here and it fits down the barrel fine. As it's a tighter fitting felt, we would suggest to use only one felt at a time, as using two felts usually requires a good firm push and as this is a little tighter than usual, two felts might cause problems. Always push the dirt out the way the bullet goes. Retracting dirty objects in the barrel is a no go.

I received my brand new Schultz & Larsen victory yesterday, as soon as I got it home I carried out an inspection with borescope and was upset in what I saw. It was fouled badly after paying a large amount of money for this rifle I’m extremely shocked. I have email the company I purchased it from to try and hopefully get resolved but very upset after a long wait and now missing the end of the season not being able to go out with our annual end of season stalk.

This system looks good but I wish instead of cleaning a gun that’s not really dirty he would have cleaned a dirty barrel. The reason is I would like to see just how many “ pellets “ it really takes to get a clean barrel. I noticed that after the initial cleaning the pellets came out pretty dirty.

Good idea. We might revisit this video with a follow up video to show our process with a really dirty barrel. Thanks for the feedback. Always welcome :)
