Inside Jean Liu's Dallas Home

Step inside interior designer Jean Liu’s magical world! Her historic Dallas home, built in 1928 by esteemed architect Hal Thompson, offers so much more than just jaw-dropping curb appeal; inside this cavernous beauty, the walls are filled with Liu’s eclectic collection of art that she and her family have carefully and thoughtfully collected over the years. The long hallways of her expansive home are filled with laughter from her daughter Cricket and tail-wagging from the family dog, Comet. Couple those joyful noises with the beautifully appointed rooms swathed in Jean’s distinct style and you have a masterful mix of luxury design and casual living. While Jean’s work leans more contemporary, she struck a delicate balance between the home’s traditional bones and her flair for the modern. This is the second female designer on this channel who is blessed to have a spouse who is very much supported and encouraged by her spouse. Listening to the story of how they were dreaming of it together, buying it suddenly, her tears at the room which she eventually now loves, is such a heartwarming, inspiring love story of many layers. When she says it is the love between the family members who live in it which makes all the difference, well, FORGETTABOUTIT. I've watched a few of these and right there, she hit the nail on the head. Frankly, I think she'd be the one I'd hire out of all the ones I've watched simply because of everything I saw in this six-minute video. So, yeah, this is a HEART-WOW. Thank you for such a gorgeous episode.

Gorgeous, and perfectly represents who she and her family are. Doesn't scream for attention, full of exquisite details, the sort of house that is a home to be lived in, not show off. What a refreshing attitude for a designer, someone who is thoughtful, listens to the client, and doesn't impose one style over another just to make a statement. Her own internal struggle with the house tells me she's exactly the sort of designer I'd want to work with.

Fabulous! Love that she honors the classic bones of the house, but kicks it up with her contemporary style. Love the wallpaper in the dining room and on the ceiling. The chandeliers and art are on point. Jean is on point. You can feel the energy of the people in a house. Gorgeous decor can't compensate for unhappy people.

The architecture and landscaping is out of this world. The decor is emphatic luxury plus quirkiness but the kind that speaks softly. Very fun and delicious but taking risks with color is usually more my kind of challenge.

Would have loved to see 'the before' peach and green. Loved everything there now except that wall papered ceiling. Grr!!! But maybe it would be great in a pantry, laundry or powder room! Or lining a larger closet! Or as drawer liner! I could even see it framed, large, and hung as art! Over a fireplace, perhaps! Or going up a staircase!

Love the eclectic style of traditional with modern. I was obsessed with the creamy color of the walls. Anyone know what paint color was used in the Great Room? Made the space feel airy but also warm. The color seemed to work with all the furnishings, rug and the artwork.
