I understand that but it can't be true. That spot is the exact spot every kid is taught to keep out of a play. Delivering a hit with the top of your head will get you ejected in most cases. It blows my mind that people are not skeptical about that stat. I have looked everywhere for that study and can't find it, I assume it doesn't exist.

If you gave Elon Musk the amount of R&D money Schutt allocated for this product, he'd probably release a helmet with greater ingenuity to the public for less that 10% of its current cost (which is $1,000). My point is, price point matters, whether low-balled or inflated, and the fact that the overall rating system does not consider cost, the largest driving factor in consumer choice, diminishes significance. Some state that every aspect of this helmet seems to be an upgrade to its main competitor. I sure hope so seeing as the F7's MSRP is 250% that of the Speedflex. That said, the information in this video is solid, even if it did sound like a marketing brochure.

Some will get a laugh about this, but for the past 20 years I have slept in a football helmet to prevent sleep appnea. I have had many helmets, my present one being a Schutt Vengeance which is really comfortable to be in for 7 or 8 hours straight. I plan on getting an F7 as it just looks like it will be even more comfortable. Thought of getting a Riddell speedflex, but do not like the fabric liner which will be a bear to keep clean. Also do not like the ratcheting chin strap. I do use a Riddell hard cup strap which I find the most comfortable.

F7 is not light...at least in the adult size. Youth helmets are lighter than their adult counterparts because youth necks aren't strong enough to support a heavier helmet.

Not a fan... I don't like the blue TPU showing through the top of the helmet, and the sides look like a nightmare to sticker up. Schutt has been flopping between this blue TPU and the orange memory foam stuff for years, but they've not innovated anything new. From my experience, the Schutt linings get really loose when players get sweaty, which results in the helmets sliding around on heads. They are pulling a page from Riddell with the leather jaw pads, but the Riddell lining looks (and according to my son, feels) super comfortable (though the mandible pads are kinda cheap). The VICIS also has a really nice interior. The Schutt and Xenith linings just seem like they could be made less 'plasticy'.

Yeah the biggest thing here is the tectonic plates that reduce rotational forces. Thats where majority of the bigger hits come from. In theory this and the VICIS are the best at protecting rotational forces. The interior is designed to give a better fit. The better the fit, the more protective the helmet will be regardless of technology. The interior pads are now screwed in so no more sliding around. The reason they produce helmets with both TPU and the orange material is for two reasons. They basically make two sets of helmets. 1) type that they believe is the best at protecting with their independent tests and 2) a type that scores high for the Virginia Tech Study since everyone has moved to rely on that even tho there are so many flaws.

Good info - thanks IKF. I can see where the bigger plate would distribute the forces more across the entire helmet than just the crown of the SpeedFlex. As a coach and youth board member who has dealt with MANY Riddell and Schutt helmets, one thing I hated about Schutt was their velcroed-in liners which, as you noted, tended to slide around a lot (or even fall out if it got too hot). So glad they're screwed in. Also have had a problem with their interior plastic cushioning getting stiff and cracking over time, and helmets yellowing (Riddell helmets don't seem to yellow as quickly). I've never had a problem with the TPU, per say, but it seems they did once make it in a darker gray color vs. the blue, which would probably look best for some schools/teams. The orange (or now yellow in some) material is MUCH softer and seems like it would be more comfortable, but I'm sure the TPU is better for reducing rotational forces. And I'm curious to see how Xenith helmets hold up over time, as they seem a little less sturdy to me. But once my kid hits HS in a year, I'll be looking for a new helmet for him and will def. keep an eye on your site and recommendations.

Mike Adams if price is no factor I would go VICIS, 2nd would be Riddell Precision Fit, 3rd would be Schutt F7, 4th would be Speedflex, 5th would be Schutt Z10. Thats in my unexpert opinion.

IKF - thanks again - appreciate the feedback from an experienced source. I like the VICIS but, as noted, the price point needs to hit around $500-600 for me to feel like it's a value. The Riddell Precision Fit looks nice and I would probably strongly consider it or another Speedflex, but might have to take a closer look at the F7. Keep up the good work!

chhc07 one reason is that they have done studies as to where the hits occur and the types of hits that occur. Foam is better at protecting certain types of impact. So they strategically place the TPU and foam in certain places.

You know football... Not football helmets. Now i love your videos u have made me make decisions and have grown to been watching u since my junior high seasons. But in highschool we were issued these f7's and they leave a mark on your head when your done after a day of some contact a blow actually kinda hurts and i dont want to sound like a 🐱 but i dont recommend this at all i stick with Riddell and show them how u can bend the helmet by pushing the ends of the helmet by opening or widen the hell out of it by pulling outwards i know its supposed to impact the blow but thats to the point of cheap shitty plastic and is j unsafe.
