More About A Crimson Man:
When 11-year-old runaway slave Wei Zhang finds Red -- a broken-down war robot -- he's terrified. But the unlikely pair quickly learn their only chance of survival is to work together to escape the brutal tyrants who've turned them each into slaves. More than that, they realize they've both lost everything to a conflict that wasn't their choice, and grow to depend on and even care for each other.

I love how all of these show such human issues, even when the character is an alien or an imaginary friend or a robot. The way this shows an old soldier dealing with PTSD and trying to exist in a world that has deemed him a threat when all he wants is to coexist on some level is so fantastic. 10/10 Mike Pappa.

In sci fi, my heart is always captured by depictions of little boys forming relationships with robots... like The Iron Giant and Lost in Space, of course. Best thing about this film was the absence of unfinished conversations, wherein suspense is painfully built up by one character either not asking an obvious question, or not answering one. The dialogue was (more or less) pertinent to the situation, hard questions were asked and answers given.

Hollywood makes what sells. Most entertainment consumers aren't interested in the novel, but the comfortable and the known. Which is why you end up with film franchises that churn out sequels and prequels like so many chicken weiners. One looks like any other because they are like any other in the series. Original works appeal to the Academy judges, but go unwatched by all but the arty crowd.

This was... it completely blew my mind. I mean, you had me at "runaway child and his robot caretaker", but you didn't stop there. The stunning visuals (I love that the boy's color reflected the robots; his shots, scenes and areas of the screen a cooler blue) with just great emotional appeal to every shot was fantastic. The Found Family aspect pulled me even deeper; the way they shared a joke throughout as the red thread that connected it. There was not a second of this film that I felt wasted my time. I was even deeply impressed with the child actor, which is difficult for me to admit. And the fact that the robot felt so human in a physical costume that I felt so much emotion for his actions and how warm and real he could be--and that they went with REALLY good puppetry/costume design, despite there being access to some really stunning CGI effects... I love this. I love the story, I love the cinematography, I love the acting, I love the messages. I just love this channel more and more with every video I watched. Thank you, DUST.

That has been one of my favorites so far! The environment was perfect. The acting was great by all cast. Most of all the robot felt REAL. This film kept you on your toes of whether to trust the robot or not and then developed a complex relationship better than a Hollywood film in all of 20 minutes. Maybe the follow on can flash forwards and backwards from the time of this film showing how they met and the future of their relationship. Fantastic work!

Most intriguing. Not bad at all. So Crimson Man is a remnant military robot? Both main characters are very interesting in that they appear to have profound choices to make about who they are and what they stand for, particularly in relation to the struggle of trust and a building friendship between each other. That part of the story is a classic one and works really well here. I think there's great potential for this to be developed into a full length film.

Thanks X Gen 💃🏻 your comments are much appreciated. Yes, Red is thought to be remnant - but we shall see. :) That answer and exploring that “potential” is what I hope to do if I’m able to make the feature. 🎥😎

During the whole of this video, I kept thinking the crimson man looks like a cross between C3PO & a Jawa & sounds like Kylo Ren! LOL! It was great though. Good onscreen chemistry between the boy and the crimson man. It's nice to see they stuck with each other right to the end. A strong friendship.

@@mikepappa I see you're the writer & director! It's great to receive a reply from you. 😊 Well done for the work you put in to this short! I suppose there are only so many non-human creatures/robots that can be created, so there'll usually be similarities somewhere. This Crimson Man has it's own characteristics.

colin Paterson I agree. And the feature has all of this. For the short, I chose to sorta DROP IN on the story. Hoping it gave it some intrigue and mystery while still being able to follow/ believe the characters, the world, and journey.
@colinp2238
@colinp2238 5 жыл бұрын
Mike You certainly managed to create the intrigue and as far as scifi goes it's totally believable otherwise my earlier comment about expanding the story would be invalid. There is a whole story there about the war with the robots and the plight of the humans, not just the ones that we see here. Is the background a post-apocalyptic or maybe a pre-apocalyptic world?
@mikepappa
@mikepappa 5 жыл бұрын
the background is more of a post-apocalyptic land --, but in a fantasy world with the look and feel of pre-world war 2
