Here's a true story. I raised my kids in the techno-world. That's right I am just like the grandfather in real life, that is in this video. Brought my kids up with video games, how to tear computers apart, diagnose issues and rebuild. My wife left long ago. Technology was a way to get through to my kids. Two of them have master's degrees, one is in trades after 6 years of college. All three own their homes and have great jobs. Now I am playing video games with their children. When the older generation such as me, ridiculed me for my involvement. Just take a look now where it led me. Where it took my children. Where it is taking my grandchildren. This is a great video because it literally is so much like my own life. Take time for your kids people. Learn to relate to them. Spend the time. I have had a lot of fun along the way :-)

I never had a game console, but managed to build my own computer from scrap, and the scrap HD I got was full of videogames and other kinds of games. Like 200 in total. Then my children could play those games; me, I was left little time to play. But my children wouldn't want to learn anything technical like tear computers apart or build them. My surprise was that my young daughter finally learned to install Linux and drivers from her friends, and now translates very big companies' technical documents. And as she wants to learn new things, she asked me to teach her mathematics and electronics, and so I did what she asked. Edit: grammatical correction, wrong verb tense (this is not my first language)

@@wafikiri_ yes this is what I'm talking about. You know for yourself! It is excellent that we involve ourselves in teaching our children. From my generation which came off the poor Farms we worked so dreadfully hard. I was bound and determined not to see my kids suffer this fate. I thank God for that inspiration. In the winter time I still play Skyrim a lot.. along with others. One of my children is a computer tech for a big company. Has two bachelor's degrees and a masters. My youngest has a masters. Oldest one is in Tech also. Bravo my friend. We can thank God that our children made it through the hustle of adolescence and learning

My absolutely adorable Grandpa used to say "I'm here if you need me. I'm at your disposal." I wish I would have appreciated it more when I was little. He was always kind & very generous. Looking back, I wish I would have realized what a treasure he was while he was still alive.😟 I LOVE YOU GRANDPA RUPP 🤗💗🙏🕊️

This is so well done, on so many levels! The fact that there's a great distance between the older & younger generations now. The way that video games are so common & how the violence in them can be upsetting to those unfamiliar with these types of games. How he boys feels forgotten in his home & how his online community fills that void. Ultimately the grandpa & grandson connecting in the virtual world just tie the whole short together. Bravo 👏

I am 57 years old, survived both a stroke AND a heart attack, yet video this sort of hits home with me!!! Back just a few years ago my grandchildren would come to visit me all the time, when they were still pretty much young! These days I don't see them as much as I do....and many of them are gamers as well!! Don't get me wrong when I was a kid the Atari 2600 was a "new device" and I was insanely good at playing video games!! Even years later I moved into a Playstation 2 and still played a number of games I enjoyed!! These days though I not sure I could keep up in the VR world and I am slowly falling behind in the "game world" these kids understand far better than I do!! Though as far as technology goes, I still have an edge over my grand kids, when speaking about computers, there are things they know far better that I do!! I guess my point is, is that it is coming to that realm where if I want to spend time with my grandchildren, I too would have to go "Virtual", but honestly at what cost?? Though I doubt that I would let me grand kids turn me into a "female game presence" (I still do understand how to change settings in games myself), I honestly have nothing at all in common with my aging grandchildren these days!! In fact my one grand daughter who I was the closest too, is now 16 years old, dating and has NO time for an old fart at all like me!! And my one Grandson lives nearly 2000 miles away, and I haven't actually "sat down and played with him" since about 4 years ago when he was just 6 years old!!! I called him on the phone and he couldn't even spend ten minutes talking to me, without be distracted!!

This has got to be among the best projects DUST has ever posted, and I've seen just about all of them. In the end, about the most important thing that a young kid can hear, from his from his grandpa . . . supersedes anything that can possibly be experienced in the virtual world. That moment will be remembered, for life. Excellent production, very well put together.

I wish I has a grandpa like that when I was growing up...I wish I had a grandpa actually, one died before I was born, the other when I was 5. I didn't get much from my parents apart of been ignored and dismissed with everything I did. Because of that I feel I'm not complete. Sorry to be a pain people, seen the grandpa give the kid a direction to look towards in moments of need broght a tear in my eyes. Yes just one, for me it's a river.

I would like to congratulate the production team and the cast for a story that has a deeper meaning and have a truly valuable lesson that we as parents should learn. We should spend more quality time with our kids and not quantity time with our kids... Reading all the comments and one comment by the '70s Tune stood out for me because this is a production I can relate to. My father was that true old-school type and I spend many hours teaching him how to navigate Windows 95. He loved the card games and he would battle for hours trying to play these games with the mouse. Now as a father of five-year-old triplets girls we are spending every weekend playing games on consoles and cell phones. And one day I will be like that old grandpa playing with my grandchildren games. Once again if there are parents that watched this short, please spend quality time with your kids, I know it's sometimes impossible, but time lost with your kids can't be regained. And as for the younger generation please be patient with us older generation because when you hit your 40s and older then believe me you wish you could have those days back. Thank you once again for such a meaningful production and once again Dust managed to deliver a well-produced production. Wish youtube had a rating system because I would have given this 5 stars for sure.

This is brilliant... simply brilliant. Engaging storyline, excellent cross-genre context and a real sense of engagement. We cared about the characters and what happened to them, even in the dual avatar / real life sense of the story. The visuals are sumptuous and the live action / in-game video blend was really well done. An absolute cracker, and the best of anything DUST has put out in the past year. Very well done to all involved.

I love playing VR with my grandsons. We play Population One and Onward and other games using our Oculus Quest headsets. I’m not as fast as I used to be so I die a lot. But it’s a great way for me to spend time with my grandsons. Even before VR we played Minecraft and my other grandson and I played Borderlands 2 and 3. I’ve been a gamer since I studied computer repair back in 1988. I played the original “Zork” which was a text based game. And my son and I played the original “Doom”…. Lots of fun 🤩

A lot of people ask me, "Who's gonna take care of you when you're old?" because I've never had any kids. I have no doubt that the many, many children who call me auntie (by blood and bond) will be around to spend time with me. I invest in these kids futures. I try to be that person who they can come to no matter what. I've have many of them ask me if I'm REALLY a grown up over the years. Never fails to touch me. They see grown ups as too busy, not interested in their stuff, never playing. So they can't believe I'm one of them. I've had a couple of them stop playing fantasy games (last time it happened I was playing a ninja princess with a magic ring) to inform me that it's not actually real. I always disagree and tell them magic is real. Even my nephew sitting on my lap when I'm in the fridge getting him food and reading the labels with him so he knows what's what is super rewarding to me lol. He loves when I read things to him. No one takes the time to read him labels. He's not in school yet but he's curious and I am absolutely obsessed with and ruled by curiosity so I try to foster that in pretty much everyone I interact with. You literally cannot be bored or run out of things to do if you've got curiosity.

Dust didn't post the original version of the short film! We actually shot this film in a hybrid of 23.98fps and 60fps. The final film was mastered in 60fps and the 23.98fps footage was interpolated to 60fps. The end result is that the VR video game scenes will have the ultra smooth high frame rate look that video games have while still maintaining the traditional 23.98fps cinema feel.
