Why is it you only know how to make sad depressing videos? Is your view of reality just that dark? How about trying to make videos with joy and hope for their theme. Science fiction doesn't have to be dark and hopeless.

I mean lets be real here. He probably spent a TON of money on that simulation of his wife. A TON! And he only had a 12 month warranty. So clearly he was into his 11th month and wanted to get a brand new model right before the warranty ended. It's all very logical. What I am most concerned about is the security/ return process for the factory/company that sold him those units. Clearly something is lacking as they let one of their units escape and return to its previous location in a damaged state. Most unprofessional.

I both wondered that too, but also, if he was "human" but rage murdered his wife? (because she insisted that one last time that the toilet seat stayed down?) and he downloaded her persona, to a memory stick as she was dying, and so she now she has a sense of free floating dread, but as the last hour of her life was erased, she can never know why? And he of course being a Narcissistic perfectionist with OCD traits about tidiness, and perfection and order, he is doomed to murder her over and over again, cursed like Sisyphus. If they had both been simulants as you suggested then that becomes really interesting, perhaps it was a post apocalyptic, feat. The last "normal" house on earth left standing , TV Show? That a broken down human population tuned into, religiously, for its soothing blandness, and nostalgia for a golden age of TV pap, and it had been running automatically for generations and people tuned into it religiously. But now it was glitching and looping. And the forest couple were just spares, whose parachute, capsule had blown off course. We need to activate Alfred Hitchcock 2.0 the Noir versions would be amazing and he (being a rather unpleasant character) specialised in torturous dread.

Healthy people will never lose their lifesaving "Uncanny Valley Discernment". "Poor reality testing in general" people will strongly prefer counterfeit partners, as long as they are exaggerated and hyperreal, it will be incremental, due to habituation, those humans will eventually come to prize the hyper-exaggerated most strongly Just a tube. or a stick. A species of Gull hatchling responds to the red dot on the parents beak by pecking on the beak and then being reflexively fed. They would also peck just as enthusiastically on a red dot on a yellow stick. We're going to end up as 2 species, and one of them will be permanently tripping. They will have nothing and be happy.

I may have liked this short more if DUST hadn’t spoiled it with the thumbnail like they so often do. But I watched it. I liked it. And now I’ve commented on it. So why would DUST ever change their practices if viewers like myself continue to fully engage with their channel? I feel for the creators of this short who weren’t given a fair chance at impressing their viewers because of a clickbait thumbnail that spoils the plot twist.

You're neglecting video description too totally gives things away, even more so: "An accidental encounter with an uninvited guest disrupts Alice's life. As her husband Tom's hidden secret gradually surfaces, Alice finds herself one of the bio-mechanical substitutes of his deceased wife." Not sure if that's Dust's or directors' choosing, but that's bigger; I opened many tabs so barely glanced at thumbnail, so didn't notice. Then I read the description, and like you, sort of "well that spoils entire storyline most likely but I'll watch anyway". Mixed feelings about film (hated mostly predictable ending; before that, reasonably good) but I'd imagine choice of Video Summary is in Directors' hands? If so, ask them why they want to give away plot.If it's Dust, then double spoiler actions by Dust, not cool.

I hope to get my own android wife as well in my lifetime. Imagine an obedient wife that doesn't display jealousy, greed, hate, but most important of all, she will never back talk me....never. The perfect wife.

well-acted. taking the ending as symbolic as shooting her is admittedly more dramatic than a memory wipe. the silliest part is: why would he even care whether she knows? If it really mattered that much, why wouldn't they just instruct her not to tell him? I mean, It would be a more realistic marriage if they kept at least *one* important secret from each other, no?

First of all, you had me at the alcohol-drone-delivery service. Secondly, we all know that all android returns should be wiped clean before the return is put into service, duh... If not the returned android will obviously be acting on memory residue that hasn't been over written by zeroes. By the same token, never buy a refurbished android for this very reason, not making that mistake again!

Usually, when I watch a film in which someone sees him-/ herself in a dream, I am done with it! I mean: just try to have a look at your own hands, next time you dream ... Fortunately, the ending still had an element of surprise in it.

Great short, ugly man. I'm going to stew about his dark and narcissistic soul for several hours now. Thanks, dust! But, really, that is a terrific accomplishment to get such an emotional and intellectual reaction from me in such a short time. It's been a wonderful cinematic experience!

@@timmooney7528 l'm of the school that the download is but a counterfeit, not a continuation of the consciousness of the original. A CD of my voice is not part of me, but would fool someone in the next room. The original consciousness is, a one time only artifact, which is so complexly embedded in the body consciousness. A copy in a different vessel would be anything but old wine in new jars! But the carrot of immortality is being dangled before billions hmmm. Still no Jetsons flying cars yet. The more immediate issue is that intelligent/ creative people would be copied, and in a way that their employers didn't just own their output, they owned their cognitive means of production, they would lose their copyright on their very selves, and a right to that unique style and the right to earn a living. Data is the new oil and we're being data fleeced on social media etc the next step, could be, cut out the middle man, own the essence of a person. The portable version without the messy flesh suit.

@@Blissblizzard Either way I feel it is disrespuctful to the legacy of his wife to create a replica or copy without her consent. Doesn't knowing you can replace or copy a person after they pass make their life less precious? For example, would you not take time to spend with your family if you create those lost moments with a replica?

Great film. The trope of the replacement android loved one - that doesn’t know - has had a mixed history in SF. But Oblivio did it well. Probably because the former wife was set against the new one and the excellent ending of the husband killing them both. But I think more importantly because female actor was outstanding. The two ‘wives’ were so different, but still bound to the man. A nice touch. I am not sure where the pod in the forest fits in, - future spares? (but why out in the forest and not in a lab?) but hey, not everything must make sense. Great work though.
