The description reads that Galaxy Quest was, "Directed by Mark Johnson," but it was Dean Parisot who directed the movie. It was Produced by Mark Johnson, and written by David Howard and Robert Gordon. (I'm just sayin') 👍

I wholeheartedly agree with u. This, the 1963 the haunting and tucker and dale vs evil are the 3 movies i practically demand any friends (or boyfriends or new family members etc) to see with me for a movie night upon entering into our friendships or whatever. It's always one of the first things i ask once a friendship or whatever has been established. I totally agree. :)

One of the better gags with Guy as the disposable crew member is a subtle one at the end, when Serris gets on board before Jason activates the Omega 13. Serris is blasting everything on the bridge and manages to kill all the main characters, but Guy is just standing near his station, freaking out and covering his head as everything explodes around him, but he isn't being touched at all.

I think my favorite line in the whole movie is bc of guy when sigourney weaver says lets get out of here before they kill guy. Guy has or is the subject of some of the best one liners in this entire movie. Sam Rockwell was barely even known by that point and yet he really did steal the movie.

Pertaining to the unaired episodes: the TV show Hunter was rebooted.They canceled it before airing three of the episodes. I recorded it but it was never put into syndication. Those three episodes are out there somewhere, but the fans have not seen them. I appreciate this review.

I watched Galaxy Quest twice just yesterday. This is such a great review that I can forgive the mistake about the director credit. I have only two other comments.1. Dilithium is actually a real substance in the real world. It's a molecule made up of a covalent bond between two atoms of lithium. And, 2. The biggest unanswered question in this movie that really bothered me was this: Who was driving the limo that got beamed up with Jason into space? Was it a real limo driver (and what happened to him?), or was it it a Thermian who learned to drive by watching other "historical documents?" I can excuse all the other implausibilities and contrivances in this movie, but that one bugs me.

Lazarus could also be the rebirth of Alexander Dane from being a cynic hating his work, to finding genuine meaning and faith in his role. He's not living a fake role and having no faith in it, to actually having faith in that role and finds a genuine expression in reality. It changes from an external facade or shell to an internal rebirth. It reminds me of the character Daniel in Jesus of Montreal from 1989/1990, who ends up first acting Jesus for a passion play acting gig, to being an incarnation of Christ who's words and actions become embodied in his real life, so that his life story ends up being a sort of repetition or reincarnation of Christ's life. Sorry if I went overboard in the faith concept, but its like finding a resonance with the roles we play and the real changes they can make in the world.

I think you missed a comparison when talking about Alexander Dane, but you'd have to go outside of Star Trek and into Star Wars. I am of course, talking about Alec Guinness. He's also a classical British stage actor who was roped into Star Wars, hated it before he was even in it, and resented the dominance it had on his legacy. The characters may bear no resemblance, but the actors (comparing Guinness to Dane, not Rickman) are very similar. He once told a fan he'd sign an autograph if he promised to never watch Star Wars again.

I seem to recall a fan-fic short story where some of the TOS actors were actually beamed aboard the Enterprise. It's quickly discovered but since the Enterprise was on a difficult diplomatic mission ( I think ) the actors had play out their roles as the real deal until a way could be found to get them back where they belonged.

tag It was a ST: New Voyages stories called "A Weird Planet" and "A Weird Planet Revisited" they did a Kirk and crew go to the studio, and the cast go to the Enterprise. fanlore.org/wiki/Visit_to_a_Weird_Planet fanlore.org/wiki/Visit_to_a_Weird_Planet_Revisited

Thank you! I knew the stories but couldn't remember the titles or the title of the books they appeared in. The cast and crew of Galaxy Quest did excellent homage to this concept without making it another Blazing Saddles or Airplane. Bonus fact: I seen a fan produced video of another story from those books. Basically, Kirk get's kidnapped by the Klingons and tortured and then dumped into 1950's Earth and winds up in an insane asylum. The story was a teary heartbreaking read. The fan production was good on it's own merit and did justice to the source.
@SciFiFan2012
@SciFiFan2012 6 жыл бұрын
tag1462 Yeah, the folks at ST: Phase 2 did Mindsifter, written by a Trek author. Thought it, and Star Trek Continues were TOS fan productions done well. Did you see Prelude to Anaxar? It was insanely detailed and a great pre TOS era fan production, had a few Trek and sci-fi alumni in there too.
@tag1462
@tag1462 6 жыл бұрын
Mindsifter... damned you are good! I am very familiar with Star Trek Continues and wish Vic and his crew all the best. I really wish he would create and develop his own property. He's like the Gene Roddenberry of his generation. But unlike Gene, Vic has paid streaming media to play with. I really loved STC... I re watch episodes just because they are that damned good. I know it's not the money, but good Lord man, original content! Stream it. As to Prelude to Anaxar.... nope. Missed it. I only get to see the silly clip KZbin allows. Wasn't impressed and I'm guessing I'm missing something. I do know that this "episode" is what killed STC.
@SciFiFan2012
@SciFiFan2012 6 жыл бұрын
tag Well, yes and no. STC had been allowed to finish its run even after CBS/Paramount set their own fan productions draconian rules and regulations, not sure why. Anaxar had a long history of drama, but the quality of the Prelude to Axanar was good enough to win people over ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prelude_to_Axanar#Reception ) CBS was getting Discovery going and I think that STC, Phase 2, and Axanar were too well done, and DIS showrunners may have felt with all the attention these fan productions were getting, they were trying to DIS ready to air, and they may have not wanted the competition. (Just my opinion, but it's strange that the pre TOS Anaxar was sued, and the TOS fan productions had to shut down, except for STC.) Prelude is still on YT at its full run of over 20 minutes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4iUkGt_i52onqM

I would contrive they have this "lost episode" because it is a season finale cliffhanger and the show got cancelled over the summer without the next part ever making it to production. So the first half of that story, Episode 92, is never put into the syndication cycle because there is no resolution.

I love this movie, I have watched it quite a few times and think it works on so many levels it's amazing, but while you pointed out some "plot conveniences", I stumbled across a minor inconsistency of the plot, which is actually quite at its core. And I never noticed it before. So the Thermians are incapable of understanding the idea of "acting", "deceit", whatever you want to call it. Yet they create holographic projectors to not look like themselves. Whatever their motives were, I have the feeling that actually is acting/deceit.

Ha! Great point. Most (or all) of the "plot conveniences" mentioned in the video were things I had absolutely no problem looking past. But I never thought of that one. And it *is* more of a hang up. Every scenario I come up with in my head to try to explain it away always meets with "Nope. Still a lie." Kudos!

Could be argued that the holo projections were: A) the equivalent of universal translators which just happen to also include an "image" translation. B) a way to keep the budget lower without needing to have CG creatures in every scene.😆

Every time I'd watch the movie until recently, I imagined the aliens were really looking like that, but with a holographic image of something more human "pasted" over. That's the impression I had gotten from the transporter scene. Are they tentacled with holograms shown over or more like shapeshifters? It's odd --- and I would've wanted --- a moment where a tentacle showed through the hologram, or they couldn't get through a simple door despite looking human.

For some reason, I keep thinking I commented on the wrong video, because the thumbnail for this video, on my laptop is different from the one on my phone. FUN FACT: My exposure to Star Trek started with TNG, when I was 7 years old. And, much like Pierce Brosnan's James Bond, I didn't know any other version of Star Trek had existed, at the time. So, whenever an episode of the original Star Trek aired on TV, I often thought to myself, "Wait a minute. Who are these people?", because I wasn't aware of previous Trek. I still think Star Trek: First Contact is easier for me to sit through as a Star Trek movie (Generations is pretty much Superman/Batman: Public Enemies done weirder). And, while Abrams' first Star Trek film was entertaining for me the first time I saw on DVD(when it really worked for me, it was because of how it stood apart from previous Trek films up until the end. Though, whether that's intentional is up for grabs), I understand why most people don't care for '09, Into Darkness, and possibly Beyond as Star Trek films. For most Trek fans, there seems to be something personal about Star Trek that comes out, if something feels contrary to the world they're familiar with. It's like whenever I watch Transformers 2007, and something about it either does or doesn't click with what I'm familiar with(G1, Beast Wars, TF Armada, Prime, etc...) BTW, Cap. If you were writing a Star Trek film, when would have it take place, what characters would you focus on, how much politics would you want in the film and what kind of villain would you have - original or new?

I sort of wish the original TOS cast had made this movie. These actors have become larger then life and it would have been interesting to see all the TOS cast act as themselves in a TOS movie. I'm sure Bill and Leonard had real chemistry. given the short time we saw them together in that Futurama Episode, but I'm curious how the real George Takei would have talked to Shatner given their feuds.

This is a very good review - albeit WAY too long. Another movie that I always put in the same category (in my mind) is Mystery Men. Some of my favorite things about Galaxy Quest are 1) the fact that Alan Rickman's makeup falls off more and more as the movie proceeds and no one notices. It's the same joke as the fact that no one seems to care about the fact that Beldar Conehead has 500 teeth in his mouth or a cone shaped head 2) When Tim Allen bends over so that the Thermians are looking at his bare ass and they all tilt their heads with big smiles on 3) When Sigourny Weaver says "Look! I've got one job on this lousy ship. It's stupid, but I'm gonna do it, OK?" 4) When Tim Allen mentions "Gilligan's Island" the aliens say "Those poor people." 5) When Lailani and Fred Kwan (Missy Pyle and Tony Shalhoub) hook up Sam Rockwell says "Oh! That's not right..."
