Such a pretty dress! I saw the original Star Wars movie, too. I was a little lost at the time, but certainly came to enjoy them. 😊 My most recent projects were all for my grandchildren. A long sleeve camo tee for each of my son’s five kiddos, and a rainbow tulip top for my daughter’s toddler. They all seem to enjoy them…which is always an amazing feeling. My next few projects may well be for them, too. 😊 Thanks again for our Friday visits. I’m jealous that your daughter is sewing.

Hi Jen, I’m a Jen too and when you started talking about your love of Star Wars I felt like you were a kindred spirit. I saw the original on a huge screen in Leicester Square Odeon in London in 1977. I was mesmerized by it ..and still am. I live in France and cannot see my 4 young grand children due to Covid so I am sewing lots of things for them and posting them. I just started sewing this year. Loved the pretty blue dress you made, might give it a try, the colour is perfect on you. Xx

Yay Mckenna! Atta girl Jen for intervening just in the most perfect way! And now you've got a new sewing friend in your very own daughter!!! Lucky both of you! Out of our 3 sons, I have one who loves to sew and create, but I still cringe watching him on my Pfaff 1222E( I purchased in 1976), when he was a boy! Gladly he has his own sewing machine now and he's a full fledged grown-up! About your collaboration, I, too, adore that beautiful fabric of yours. It's so hard to have a special piece of fabric and when you make it up aren't happy with the pattern choice. It makes me SO afraid to move forward w my fabrics and I fear I'll be in a constant spin of wearable muslins!! But it hasn't stopped me from purchasing more and more fabrics!! Hahahah! I just got finished w Simplicity 9122, I may put up the pic on my IG. but I seriously HATED the dress after I made it. It was also a wearable muslin. It ended up being a kinda couture item with all the homemade bias binding, french seaming, but I totally DO NOT look fashion forward in this dress and I will never wear it! The best part of it was the comment my sweet hubby made when he saw me in it..."I think you should enter it into the fair next year!" He thought it was a compliment and I tell you that made me crack up so much my abs got sore.. Precisely! The dreaded HOMEMADE look! Anyone out there want a free copy of Simplicity 9122, gently used! HAHA. I just look so forward to sitting w a cup of coffee while you are in your sewing room...Thanks so much!
@TodayinJensSewingRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Theresa! I was so proud. You definitely have a workhorse in your Pfaff 1222 - I started with a 362 that I got in about 1979-1980. They are really, really good machines if you can get one that was made in Germany. Yep, that collab dress was a fail, but I've had several suggestions on how to redeem it and it may just become a skirt. We'll see. S9122 - I also made that for my daughter Emma. Sounds like you went to a lot of trouble with it - but she didn't like hers either. Your husband is hilarious! The fair! Memories of 4-H projects! I'd have died laughing too! 😂 Thanks so much for drinking your coffee with me. It's a pleasure.

Loved your daughters pants. I know you are so proud. I love your dress. It looks so nice on you. I have found a great way to trace Burda patterns is to use a roll of polypropylene... plastic sheeting from a home good store. I got a huge roll for like $10. It’s so easy to see the exact lines and then if you want to trace around it and make a paper pattern it’s super easy. A sharpie is needed for tracing onto the plastic but that line makes making a paper pattern later easier.

Hi Jen! Your video made me chuckle. I also went to see the first Star Wars, in 1977, with my boyfriend, but I DID end up marrying him! LOL We both loved the movie. So nice that your daughter is taking an interest in sewing! Her pants turned out great! I have 2 daughters (and 3 sons) and taught them both to do basic sewing when they were young teens but sadly, neither of them caught the sewing bug (although they love having me sew things for them). I have a sweet daughter in law who wants to learn, so hey, that's something! Someone has to inherit all our sewing stuff! haha My latest creation was a pair of mechanics coveralls for my 3 year old grandson (to match his daddy's) and they turned out so cute. I love your blue striped dress. I have never considered that pattern but it looks really nice on you. That's something I love about seeing the things other people make. All the patterns you miss. I also made our living room curtains from muslin, it was thin so I doubled the fabric for the length, flipping about 10 inches on top of the right side I sewed a 2 inch header and had an attached valance, 30 years later they’re still as nice as when I made them I love your valance too, it really finishes the room🧡

This week I sewed a pair of Eddystone jeans!!! I’ve been on a carb free/fasting diet and lost a few #s. I was surprised in making these jeans. First... I bought corduroy from Hobbylobby last week for $3 a yard (yes, I bought what was left.. 5yards) and took my time with the “ cutting out”. Second.. the sew was easy and faster than I thought it was going to be. Third... I went down TWO sizes and they FIT!!! The length, the waist. The hips, the... ohhh my my butt looks good in em! Anyway ,,, calm down Karen... was set for Federal jury duty. Been working on this since the start of the year! Signed in tonight to see that I go to Phoenix on Monday,,, I don’t have to go. Sewed several new outfits to wear!!! Was so excited! What else during a pandemic! Now I’m looking for my next big adventure ,,, like everyone else. Guess estate sales will have to do. I am attending an ASG annual meeting virtually Saturday. While on that I plan to finish the hand stitching on an Itch to Stitch Zamora blouse. Really liking it so far. Also making continuous bias tape for an antique quilt top made by my great great Grandma who was blind. That is for my sister. Also making her a wall hanging called love notes from Kimberbell. It is for her 60th birthday. She gets made gifts for every zero and 5 birthday. Sometimes other years slip in. Hi Jen, just wanted to congratulate McKenna on her cute pants. That’s so exciting! I love your newest version of Simplicity 8640 - it is a winner of a pattern and the blues you chose are so soothing and pretty. I made the same Laura Ashley jumpsuit way back in the day when Candace was a toddler. I made 2 of them for myself and can see them clear as a bell, but finding pictures of them may be another story altogether. I always thought the pockets on them were very cute. Finally, you are a more intrepid woman than I to conquer a Burda mag pattern. This is the same reason I won’t see Jalie - all those lines give me hives. You’re a “can do” gal and I have faith that you’ll nail that skirt, no problem. Go Jen go!!

The Mandelorian? YOU KNOW IT, BABY! My whole family watches it! We were dying for October 30 to roll around for the new season to start. We watched it while Makenna and Ryan were visiting last weekend. Emma (#2) called recently to catch up - she lives in Minnesota - and we spent an hour discussing Boba Fett and the guy at the end of the episode and the Clone Wars and the origins of Baby Yoda . . . the whole franchise. She even outdoes me with the geekiness so apparently it's genetic! My kids have been watching Star Wars since they were wee little ones. Haven't started the jacket yet and it's Sunday already. But we have a tropical storm on top of us today, so it's a good day to sew! ❤️😘

I just love your Friday Sews even if you don't sew...I taught my daughter to sew years ago and she did a few pieces and grew tired of the whole thing. I gave her a sewing machine and she will take it out of the closet to sew a rip or tear but usually brings them to me now that she works full time. But she learned to craft and crochet from me and has exceeded the master....lol. The pants were really cute especially the fabric. I have been making potholders from scrap fabrics. It is using prairie points and takes some manipulation. Mindless activity while watching tv is easy. Thanks for the chat. Many blessings

This weekend I’m putting my foot down and I’m going to sew, and suffer the consequences if need be. I had my cover stitch in the shop for months as I did not make the time to pick it up. Well I was just going to use it and found I forgot how to thread it. Hmmm,. Last weekend finished my closet and now I need to deal with my fabric. I’m winding it on bolts to put in the china cabinets, it’s really fun and relaxing and also eye opening as to my fabric, ‘problem’. I explained to my buddy who helped me with the closet, there are hardly any cuts in all this that I don’t love at least a little. I currently have it in Rubbermaid 58 liter bins Take a guess how many I have, I want to see if you can come close. That being said, I have to sew this weekend, I need to make something after see ALL of it. I made 2 super cute long sleeve knit tops, and cut out 2 knit dresses (house dresses) and I want to make a new robe. I saw a pattern that might be fun for Makenna to make as a beginner or anyone for that matter. It’s an indie, but really unique, a dress. It’s a woven pullover shift with princess seams in the back. It is really up your alley too, I totally thought of you when I saw that it was for wovens. I don’t buy a lot of indie patterns because they are so expensive, but as I said I thought of you when I saw this on Devon Thread Tales October makes. She is sewing with one of her daughters now too. The pattern is Deer and Doe Arum dress. I’m going to get it because I have trouble thinking of easy to grab and wear woven garments and I have so much fabric I want to use. I’m the opposite of you in that, I sew mostly all knives. Last thing- Star Wars-I’m a hard core R2D2 and BB1 fan. Do they just have that Diet Coke at Disney? I’d love to go to the Star Wars thing with my kids, omg we were so into it. My son had a Jar Jar doll he carried around for about 3 years, so darling. I hope you have an awesome weekend Jen! Thanks for sharing your week and makes!

It is honestly the happiest place on earth to me. Cinderella is my favorite character. I also saw the original Star Wars when it came out at the movies...more than once, LOL. I would have dumped that boyfriend of yours too. Ha! We have been enjoying watching the new season of The Mandalorian. I love that is has a nod toward the original Star Wars. I saw a documentary type show explaining it takes 5 puppeteers to operate Baby Yoda. They also said the voice of the Bartender in one of this season's scenes is voiced by Mark Hamill. I had such a girl crush on him back in the day. LOL

@@kristi8220 Oh man me too on that crush! Such a babe! And I also saw the documentary - fascinating stuff especially the way they didn't anticipate the reaction from the audience to the character -

Just waiting for some new fabric to dry, making some fabric pattern weights while I wait. Dead easy. Jealous of u always wearing sleeveless dresses there in Florida?🌞 Is it ? Here in UK, we have about 3 weeks a year when we can go sleeveless ☹️🌧️

Yes - it's Florida and why didn't I move her 20 years ago? I love the heat and humidity, although I confess that I also love being able to get out of it into the a/c. You don't have the heat there (and no screens in the windows! What is up with that?). But when you do, it's so funny hearing you all complain. You have no idea 😂

I keep looking at your topper. I think this is exactly what I want to do over some of my windows. Did you have a pattern, or instructions from somewhere? It looks like simply a length of fabric folded over at the top and clipped at intervals. Yes? Thanks for your videos!

That is absolutely all it is, a length of muslin clipped to the rod. That's it!

Thanks -- I'll be trying that here soon!

It’s so weird hearing you talk about going to an amusement park. Nothing is open in CA.

We used to drive to my mom and dad's for Christmas and we'd always take a car-top carrier that looked like a Big Mac sandwich styrofoam. When I would do the "finish up" shopping on Dec 23, I could always find the car because of that carrier! The one time . . . I lose my car ALL the time . . . 😂 We should start a club!

Yes! And "Leftenant." How in the world do you get that from "lieutenant?" And "clark" instead of "clerk." Oh, I could go on and on. So strange.
