Gorgeous dress which will make a fab skirt, what’s a lucky find 🎉
@jennetthamilton97116 сағат бұрын
That skirt and turtleneck will be perfect, it's exactly what I would choose to wear to a winter wedding. A friend of mine recently found her MOTB dress and shoes at Goodwill, also in shades of blue! I was actually wedding dress shopping with her and her daughter yesterday, she said yes to a mini wedding dress! The future bride was looking at a super long veil to complete her vision, but wow!, the veil was almost $600. Well, of course i said I could make her one way cheaper. This is going to be fun sharing the MOTB journey with you.

They are so fortunate to have you - that veil will be a work of art.

@@TodayinJensSewingRoom Sure wish you were going to have lunch with us, Jen. Sometime within the next month, I will need to make a day trip to Orlando (IKEA - sewing room items), but you will probably be very busy with wedding activities. Someday, I hope to connect with you! 🥰

That is a wonderful find on that dress you found. I know you will be able to get it and the turtle neck just perfect. We to are getting new windows installed in our house on Feb 16 and I can’t wait! I’m not a happy camper and would appreciate your prayers. I spent 9 hours in the ER today because of pain from my surgery and back pain. I’m having burning pain in my stomach like being cut with a knife. Also back pain that is messing up my sleep.

Jen, that's going to be STUNNING! I made that coat in the high/low view with the high just at the knees. Maybe you could do that instead of taking out a front panel? I also didn't do the stand up collar, but made a hood! Did it in a black and gray wool herringbone and I wear it so often (live in PA). It is a really cute coat and everyone comments on it. It's going to be gorgeous in that blue velvet. I can't wait to see the finished product.

That sounds absolutely gorgeous! I want to do the hood also -

Hi Jen! We've chatted briefly before. I'm in Beavercreek. I know that you occasionally go to Joann in Beavercreek when you visit your parents. I don't know if it is closing or not. Have you heard anything? The manager, Néce, isn't there anymore☹️.
@TodayinJensSewingRoom14 сағат бұрын
i haven't heard. I was there last weekend but didn't have a chance to go into Joann's (I think I left the house once). I have been since Néce left - I asked about her when I was there at Christmas and was so sad to hear she left. Although - maybe she was the smart one! I'll be back again in early April - I'll let you know and maybe we can grab coffee with Nancy @runningwithscissors

Oh my stars Jen, what an amazing find - AND it has pockets (happy dance). The plain velvet will serve you better than the sparkly one in my opinion, it will be a beautiful coat and top, but it will allow the skirt to be the hero piece. I’m so looking forward to traveling with you throughout your journey. 🌹❤️

Now I’m thinking about jewelry. I don’t know about you, but most of my nicer jewelry is gold. I think silver has got to be the way to go with that outfit. Maybe you could look for some kind of faux brooch that would light up that sweater. Some nice silvery chandelier earrings. The possibilities are just endless.

When you said hood my first question is what about your hair. It sounds like you’re going to need a hat no matter what. What on earth are you going to do? Hats just strike fear in my heart. Once I have one on my hair is ruined for sure. My first thought is to have your hair up in a style where most of it is tucked away for the ceremony. Sometimes I can devise a bun that when I shake my hair out it looks really pretty. If you have something that you know how to do like that it would work great. Maybe you guys could hire a hairdresser to fix your hair up between the ceremony and the reception. It would not need to be a full on start from scratch hairdo, just a nice fix up to get over having worn hats. I kind of like that idea.
@TodayinJensSewingRoom14 сағат бұрын
That's so funny - it's the last thing I've thought of! But I'm sure it'll be fine. If I put enough hairspray on it, it should stay.

Your MOB ensemble will be beautiful! My 35 year old daughter is getting married 3/14/25. The Lord blessed me with two dresses that were on the sales rack at a bridal shop for $20 each! They are both a size 10 and I am a 6. I dropped one off this week at an alterations shop. I truly want to alter the other one all on my own. I have been sewing for 50 years, but the only alterations I have done after a garment is made is a hem. I will be making a wrap out of polyester chiffon fabric; do you have any tips on making a rolled hem on the sewing machine? Thanks in advance. God bless.
@TodayinJensSewingRoomКүн бұрын
That's awesome you're doing your own alterations! I know you can do it! Regarding the rolled hem, I always do those on my serger. Check your serger's manual for how and I always get the best results with "woolly nylon," which fills in the gaps and looks like a corded hem. On your regular machine, here's a great tutorial from a channel that has all kinds of great info: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4bOdGernJitiqMsi=4sDtAC8u1euN1pCF

Great video. I am 70 years old and learned to sew back in home ec class. Yesterday, I used Style Arc's Lena Shift Dress pattern to make my first shift. I made it from a beautiful floral bedsheet and it fits perfectly. I'm going to make a fabric belt also, for variety. Yes, God does look at the true believer through the blood of Christ and for the converted soul, our past, present and future sins are put as far away as east is from west but, Scripture is clear that as Christ said in John 3:7 "You must be born again" for this to be a reality in our life. Blessings to you.

I love hearing about your visit with your parents. I can tell you…when that day comes and they aren’t around… you will relive every minute of these times with them. I miss mine every day and consider myself blessed beyond measure to have had them as long as I did. Mama used to say she wished she was able to come and wash my dishes…. Congratulations on figuring out how to fix the coat! I like easy repairs because it feels good to get something back in use - I guess those who do it for a living enjoy the challenge. Our daughter went to New Orleans over the long MLK weekend to get away from the weather in Michigan and wound up staying an extra four days due to the ice and snow "down South," something she did not expect 😁!

Hello Jen, I have to say I totally can relate when it comes to alterations! I DO NOT LIKE DOING THEM! I’m strictly a creator and want to keep it that way. I don’t even like doing them for myself! So I understand why your alterations shop is closed! 😂 Happy you persisted and got it done! ❤. Also, you know I’m from the Midwest too (Wisconsin) and try to only go back when it’s warm. However, like you, I had to go back one November around Thanksgiving and OMG! It snowed! Being from Florida at that time, my body just was not use to that type of “shimmer me timbers” type of weather! If you’ve gone already…I pray you stayed warm! 😊

Don't know if this would have helped, but Amazon sells a zipper repair kit. I found out after I replaced the zipper for the second time on a coat. I have a friend from Ohio that is staying in the Panama Beach area. She wasn't happy by the snow. It is currently snowing in northern Nevada. This is the first storm since a small storm in December.

Bless her heart, you come to Florida for the warm sunshine and you get what you have at home! I'm in Ohio right now and boy it's chilly. Snow everywhere. Go figure. I did check on the zipper repair kit, thinking that might work. But the broken zipper was a gauge that was too big. I'm sure there's a kit out there somewhere. But thanks for the tip!
