It’s great how the workers use their bare hands to feel the connection of everyone before and after them who has touched the sandwich

There's two schools of thought on this. One is that gloves keep dead skin and oils off of the food, the other is that gloves prevent you from feeling when your hands are dirty and therefore mean you wash your hands and/or change your gloves much less often.

I hate to tell you gloves are one of the dirtiest things you can use when handling food. Hands washed correctly and sanitised are far far far safer for food handling. You will not find a single chef behind closed doors using gloves, except for simpletons and cuts. People in delis etc. do it for show.

I like how the workers are wearing hair nets and aprons and all sorts of food safety gear to prevent contaminants from getting into the sandwiches but then they handle them all with their bare hands. We all know the hands never get dirty and don't need protection gear to avoid contaminants getting into the food. EDIT: Oh it gets even better. The guys loading the sandwiches into the boxes are wearing gloves to make sure the boxes don't get contaminated. How thoughtful.
@Kat-lt6qd
@Kat-lt6qd 10 ай бұрын
Why are you so convinced that gloves are magical bacteria repeller? These people deep wash their hands directly prior to beginning work, so I'm assuming your concern would be anything they touch once already working? That also applies when wearing gloves, no? Whatever you are convinced will be on their hands is now on the gloves instead. There have been studies in the UK that wearing gloves can actually increase hygiene issues. This is due to people feeling a false sense of protection. When they have bare hands they are more aware of potential issues and deeply wash their hands regularly throughout. In addition to this, they can detect if something feels off with an ingredient, something not apparent to the naked eye, like a sticky piece of ham for examlle, which suggests unhealthy bacteria & which wouldn't be noticed while wearing gloves. Then you keep touching more with those now contaminated gloves. This is why in the UK you rarely see people who handle food wearing gloves. 9 times out of 10, when I see people freaking out about gloves, it's an American. Keep nails short, remove all jewellery (which they haven't in this clip & I do have an issue with) deep clean throughly regularly & there shouldn't be a problem.

as someone who worked at a small convenience store/gas station, they DO use food safety gloves and change them frequently. idk why the company in this video doesn’t, that’s a super huge health hazard that you literally learn about on the first day of food handling and prep.

So....how does working in a gas station that sells them and not working in the factory that produces them give you the confidence to claim 'they use safety gloves and change them frequently'? ...because CLEARLY this company does not. I'm also PRETTY sure the U.K. has different food handling requirements and standards than other countries. Maybe they don't have to over there. I worked in a place that made such sandwiches. It was a cold room where you stood in the same spot for hours. The ingredients were also kept in a large freezer, so when you handled it, your hands would get cold too. We would wear cloth gloves with food safety gloves on top. Even with cloth gloves, your hands still got cold. Even in the dead of summer, when I got off work, I would still feel the cold in my body for hours afterwards.

clearly you never worked in a kitchen. even if you go to gordon ramseys kitchens they simply wash and sanitize their hands regularly. Wearing gloves actually traps sweat/dirt and builds up heat (this is bad). working with a single item, on a manufacturing line its actually better to not wear gloves (risk of contamination is low with clean, sanitized hands). latex gloves actually don't last very long and often break into pieces and get lost into food. also after handing food after about 5 minutes gloves get slippery and your fine motor skills like peeling apart 2 pieces of ham are not easy. Lastly stopping the entire production line for workers to go wash hands, dry them and put new gloves is like sitting down for a meal and then brushing your teeth between each bite you take. its much easier, faster, and hyginic to finish the task and then properly clean up.

Gloves aren't a legal requirement when handling food here. Gloves can get just as dirty as skin (someone can easily touch their face/mouth/hair/whatever with a glove on) - but there's often a false assumption that if you're wearing gloves it's automatically safe. This has been shown to (in some cases) decrease handwashing/glove changing to stop contamination because people assume gloves = clean. So the focus is on proper, regular, thorough handwashing to ensure safety. Not sure where you're based, but the UK has a far, far lower incidence of food-related illnesses than the US - 14.8% of population in the US vs 1.5% of the population in UK in 2018, for example. So gloves aren't the big deal here!

04:38 why are they wearing gloves at this point? That's like wearing a condom AFTER the girl is pregnant. Literally the only people wearing gloves in the entire assembly of the sandwiches was the sliced ham kid. And KNOWING how untrustworthy people are about washing their hands, even when required to do so, you can guarantee that by the time you eat that Foo-go sandwich, no less than 4 people have had their bare hands all over and in it. Hard Pass.

Square hams are virtually non-existent in Australia now, you might find them in delis. The big supermarkets don't stock them at all, and Aldi used to sell them many years ago. I'm guessing round ham means customers will have to use two or three slices to cover a sandwich.

gloves are good for protecting the person using them(to an extent), but get dirty just as quickly as skin. because the common perception is there 'safer' they can be counter productive in a food manufacturing environment. A good washing policy is usually better for hygiene, company spending and the environment.

Would you rather they wear gloves and not be able to feel when their hands are dirty? The theory goes that when you feel you have touched something like cold meat, you are hyper aware that you have touched something that makes your hands dirty, therefore you wash your hands more often. Counterintuitively, this makes wearing gloves to handle food less hygienic.

They need to put a piece of plastic cardboard or something between each half of the sandwich. Because you're two pieces of bread that touch each other end up getting very soggy. It's condensation in the package. Changes in temperatures and vast differences between store coolers, are contributing factors, to soggy problems. I don't think cardboard will solve that problem.
